Josué 21

1 Et les chefs de famille des fils de Levi allèrent trouver Eléazar le prêtre, Josué, fils de Nau, et les chefs de famille des tribus d'Israël.

Then came near the ancestral heads of the Levites, unto Eleazar, the priest, and unto Joshua son of Nun, —and unto the ancestral heads of the tribes, of the sons of Israel;

2 Ils leur parlèrent, en Silo, dans la terre de Chanaan, disant: Le Seigneur a ordonné à Moïse de nous donner des villes à habiter et leurs banlieues, pour notre bétail.

and spake unto them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying: Yahweh himself, commanded, by the hand of Moses, that there should be given unto us cities to dwell in, —with their pasture-lands for our cattle.

3 En conséquence, les fils d'Israël donnèrent aux lévites pour les posséder en héritage, selon l'ordre du Seigneur, des villes avec leurs banlieues;

So the sons of Israel gave unto the Levites, out of their own inheritance, at the bidding of Yahweh, —these cities, with their pasture-lands.

4 Le lot de la famille de Caath fut désigné le premier, et les fils d'Aaron, prêtres et lévites, eurent treize villes des tribus de Juda, de Siméon et de Benjamin;

And, when the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites, then had the sons of Aaron the priest, from among the Levites—out of the tribe of Judah and out of the tribe of the Simeonites and out of the tribe of Benjamin—by lot, thirteen cities.

5 Le reste des fils de Caath eut dix villes des tribus d'Ephraïm, et de Dan et de la demi-tribu de Manassé;

And, the sons of Kohath that remained, had—out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim and out of the tribe of Dan and out of the half tribe of Manasseh—by lot, ten cities.

6 Le lot des fils de Gerson fut ensuite désigné; ils eurent treize villes des tribus d'Issachar, d'Aser et de Nephtbali et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, au delà du Jourdain;

And, the sons of Gershon, had—out of families of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan—by lot, thirteen cities.

7 Le lot des fils de Mérari, par familles, fut désigné; ils eurent douze villes des tribus de Ruben, de Gad et de Zabulon.

The sons of Merari, by their families, had—out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

8 Les fils d'Israël donnèrent aux lévites, par le sort, ces villes avec leurs banlieues, comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse.

So the sons of Israel gave unto the Levites these cities, with their pasture lands, —as Yahweh commanded, by the hand of Moses, by lot.

9 La tribu de Juda, celle de Siméon et une part de celle de Benjamin, livrèrent ces villes, et elles furent possédées

Thus then they gave—out of the tribe of the sons of Judah and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon—these cities which are mentioned by name.

10 Par les fils d'Aaron, de la famille de Caath, de la tribu de Lévi, parce que le sort les leur avait assignées.

And the sons of Aaron, from among the sons of Kohath, from among the sons of Levi, had them, —because, theirs, was the first lot;

11 On leur donna aussi Cariath-Arboc, métropole des fils d'Enac, la même qu'Hébron dans les montagnes de Juda, et la banlieue qui l'entoure;

yea there was given unto them, the city of Arba, the father of Anak, the same, is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, —with the pasture land thereof, round about it;

12 Quant aux champs de la ville et à ses villages, Josué les avait donnés en pleine possession aux fils de Caleb, fils de Jéphoné.

whereas, the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they unto Caleb son of Jephunneh, as his possession.

13 Aux fils d'Aaron, il donna cette ville d'Hébron, comme ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, avec toutes les dépendances qui y étaient attachées; il leur donna aussi Lemna et ses dépendances;

But, unto the sons of Aaron the priest, gave they the city of refuge for the manslayer, even Hebron, with the pasture lands thereof, —Libnah also, with her pasture lands;

14 Elom et ses dépendances, Tema et ses dépendances,

and Jattir with her pasture land, and Eshtemoa with her pasture land;

15 Gella et ses dépendances, Dabir et ses dépendances, Bethsamys et ses dépendances: neuf villes des deux tribus de Juda et de Siméon;

and Holon, with her pasture land, and Debir, with her pasture land;

16 Asa et ses dépendances, Tana et ses dépendances;

and Ain, with her pasture land, and Juttah, with her pasture land, Beth-shemesh, with her pasture land, —nine cities, out of these two tribes.

17 Ils eurent, de la tribu de Benjamin, Gabaon et ses dépendances, Gatheth et ses dépendances,

And, out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon, with her pasture land, —Geba, with her pasture land;

18 Anathoth et ses dépendances, Gamala et ses dépendances: quatre villes;

Anathoth, with her pasture land, and Almon, with her pasture land, —four cities.

19 En tout treize villes pour les prêtres, fils d'Aaron.

All the cities of the sons of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities, with their pasture lands.

20 Les familles des fils de Caath, le reste des lévites issus de Caath eurent d'abord la ville des prêtres dans la tribu d'Ephraïm.

And, as for the families of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, which remained of the sons of Kohath, the cities of their lot were out of the tribe of Ephraim.

21 On leur donna Sichem, la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, avec ses dépendances; ils eurent, en outre, Gazara, sa banlieue et ses dépendances,

So they gave unto them a city of refuge for the manslayer, even Shechem with her pasture land, in the hill country of Ephraim, —also Gezer, with her pasture land;

22 Et les deux Betboron avec leurs dépendances: quatre villes.

and Kibzaim, with her pasture land, and Beth-horon, with her pasture land, —four cities.

23 Ils eurent encore, de la tribu de Dan, Helcotaïm et ses dépendances, Géthédan et ses dépendances,

And, out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke, with her pasture land, —Gibbethon, with her pasture land;

24 Elon et ses dépendances, Géthéremmon et ses dépendances: quatre villes;

Aijalon, with her pasture land, Gath-rimmon, with her pasture land, —four cities.

25 Et, de la demi-tribu de Manassé, Tanach et ses dépendances, et Jébada et ses dépendances: deux villes.

And, out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Taanach, with her pasture land, and Gath-rimmon, with her pasture land, —two cities.

26 En tout dix villes et leurs dépendances pour le reste des fils de Caath.

All the cities, were ten, with their pasture lands: for the families of the sons of Kohath which remained.

27 Aux lévites, fils de Gerson, il fut donné, de l'autre demi-tribu de Manassé, la ville assignée aux meurtriers, Gaulon, dans le royaume de Basan, avec ses dépendances, et Bosora avec ses dépendances: deux villes.

And, the sons of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, had, out of the half tribe of Manasseh, a city of refuge for the manslayer, even Golan in Bashan, with her pasture land, and Be-eshterah, with her pasture land, —two cities.

28 De la tribu d'Issachar: Cison et ses dépendances, Debba et ses dépendances,

And, out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, with her pasture land, —Daberath, with her pasture land;

29 Remniath et ses dépendances, et la Fontaine des Lettres, avec ses dépendances: quatre villes;

Jarmuth, with her pasture land, En-gannim, with her pasture land, —four cities.

30 De la tribu d'Aser: Basella avec ses dépendances, et Dabbon avec ses dépendances,

And, out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal, with her pasture land, Abdon, with her pasture land;

31 Chelcat avec ses dépendances, et Rhaab avec ses dépendances: quatre villes;

Helkath, with her pasture land, and Rehob, with her pasture land, —four cities.

32 De la tribu de Nephthali, la ville de refuge Cadès en Galilée et ses dépendances, Nemmath et ses dépendances, et Themmon avec ses dépendances: trois villes.

And, out of the tribe of Naphtali, a city of refuge for the manslayer—even Kedesh in Galilee, with her pasture land, and Hammoth-dor, with her pasture land, and Kartan, with her pasture land, —three cities.

33 En tout pour les fils de Gerson, par familles, treize villes.

All, the cities of the Gershonites, by their families, were thirteen cities, with their pasture lands.

34 A la famille des fils de Mérari, au reste des lévites, il fut donné de la tribu de Zabulon, Maan et sa banlieue, Cadès et sa banlieue,

And, unto the families of the sons of Merari, the Levites that remained, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, with her pasture land, —Kartah, with her pasture land;

35 Sella et sa banlieue: trois villes;

Dimnah, with her pasture land, Nahalal, with her pasture land, —four cities.

36 Et au delà du Jourdain, en face de Jéricho, de la tribu de Ruben, la ville de refuge Bosor, dans le désert, la même que Miso et sa banlieue, Jazer et sa banlieue,

And, out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, with her pasture land, —and Jahaz, with her pasture land;

37 Decmon et sa banlieue, Mapha et sa banlieue: quatre villes;

Kedemoth, with her pasture land and Mephaath, with her pasture land, —four cities.

38 De la tribu de Gad, la ville de refuge Ramoth en Galaad et sa banlieue, Camin et sa banlieue,

And, out of the tribe of Gad, a city of refuge for the manslayer—even Ramoth in Gilead, with her pasture land, —and Mahanaim, with her pasture land;

39 Esebon et sa banlieue, Jazer et sa banlieue: en tout quatre villes.

Heshbon, with her pasture land, Jazer, with her pasture land, —in all, four cities.

40 Telles sont toutes les villes données par familles, au reste des lévites, aux fils de Mérari, et leur nombre fut limité à douze.

All the cities for the sons of Merari, by their families, who remained of the families of the Levites, yea their lot was, twelve, cities.

41 Les lévites eurent ainsi, au milieu des possessions des fils d'Israël, quarante-huit villes

All the cities of the Levites, in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel, were forty-eight cities, with their pasture lands:

42 Et leurs banlieues; ils eurent chaque ville avec sa banlieue, et toutes ces villes étaient entourées de banlieues.

these cities passed, each severally, with its pasture lands round about it; thus, was it with all these cities.

43 C'est ainsi que le Seigneur donna à Israël toute la terre qu'il avait promis à leurs pères de leur donner, ils en prirent possession et ils l'habitèrent.

So Yahweh gave unto Israel, all the land which he had sworn to give unto their fathers, —and they took possession thereof, and dwelt therein.

44 Et le Seigneur, comme il l'avait promis à leurs pères, rétablit la paix tout alentour; de tous leurs ennemis, nul ne se souleva contre eux. Le Seigneur avait livré tous leurs ennemis à leurs mains,

And Yahweh gave them rest round about, according to all that he had sworn unto their fathers, —and there stood not a man before them, of all their enemies; all their enemies, did Yahweh deliver into their hand.

45 Aucune des bonnes paroles que le Seigneur avait dites aux fils d'Israël ne tomba à terre; toutes furent vérifiées.

There failed not a thing, out of all the good things, whereof Yahweh had spoken unto the house of Israel, —the whole, came to pass.
