Job 36

1 Et Elihou, continuant dit:

And Elius further continued, and said,

2 Patiente un moment encore afin que je t'instruise; je sens en moi bien des choses à dire.

Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach you: for there is yet speech in me.

3 Je reprendrai de loin ce que je sais, et, d'accord avec mes œuvres,

Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,

4 Je te parlerai sincèrement, en homme qui ne conçoit rien d'injuste.

I will speak just things truly, and you shall not unjustly receive unjust words.

5 Apprends que jamais Dieu, en la force de son cœur, ne repoussera l'innocence.

But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,

6 Jamais il ne vivifiera l'impie; il ne refusera point de juger l'indigent.

he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgment of the poor.

7 Il ne détournera pas ses regards du juste; il le placera sur le trône avec les rois; il le fera triompher comme eux; ils seront pareillement glorifiés.

He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but [they shall be] with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.

8 Ceux qu'auront pris des entraves ou les liens de la pauvreté,

But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.

9 Il se contentera de leur faire connaître leurs fautes et leurs œuvres; car ils se raffermiront.

And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.

10 Mais il écoutera les justes, parce qu'il est résolu à les corriger de l'iniquité.

But he will listen to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.

11 S'ils lui sont dociles et le servent, ils achèveront leurs jours dans l'abondance des biens, et leurs années dans les grandeurs.

If they should hear and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honor.

12 Il ne protège point les impies, parce qu'ils refusent de le connaître, et qu'ils sont rebelles à ses avertissements.

But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.

13 Et les hommes au cœur hypocrite réprimeront leur colère, et ils ne crieront point s'il vient à les enchaîner.

And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath [against themselves]; they will not cry, because he has bound them.

14 Ceux-là, que leur âme meure en leur jeunesse, que la vie leur soit ôtée par des anges.

Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers [of death].

15 Car ils auront opprimé le pauvre et le faible; que le Seigneur absolve les esprits pacifiques.

Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek.

16 S'il a permis que la bouche de ton ennemi t'ait trompé; les flots de l'abîme sont sous ta table, et elle y tombera chargée de mets.

And he has also enticed you out of the mouth of the enemy:

17 Il ne fera pas attendre aux justes sa sentence.

[there is] a deep gulf [and] a rushing stream beneath it, and your table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous;

18 Son courroux s'élèvera contre les pervers, à cause des dons honteux qu'ils ont reçus pour salaire de leur iniquité.

but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.

19 Veille à ne point te détourner de la demande du pauvre pressé par le besoin; quant à ceux qui usent de violence,

Let not [your] mind willingly turn you aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.

20 Ne les soustrais pas la nuit au peuple qui marche contre eux.

And draw not forth all the mighty [men] by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.

21 Sois attentif à t'abstenir d'actions vaines; c'est d'elles que provient la pauvreté.

But take heed lest you do that which is wrong: for of this you has made choice because of poverty.

22 Le Tout-Puissant s'est affermi dans sa force; qui peut prévaloir contre lui?

Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?

23 Qui peut le rechercher dans ses œuvres et l'accuser d'injustice?

And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice?

24 Souviens-toi qu'il n'a rien fait que de grand, et que les hommes l'ont célébré.

Remember that his works are great [beyond] those which men have attempted.

25 Tout homme a vu en lui-même combien les mortels sont vulnérables.

Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.

26 Le Tout-Puissant est multiple, et nous ne le connaîtrons jamais; le nombre de ses années est infini.

Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know [him]: the number of his years is even infinite.

27 Il sait le nombre des gouttes de pluie et il les recueille pour en former de nouveaux nuages.

And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.

28 Les anciens monuments s'écrouleront, et les nuées couvrent d'ombre le mortel ignoré. Dieu a enseigné les heures aux bestiaux; ils savent régler leur sommeil.

The ancient [heavens] shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. [Yet] by all these things your understanding is not astonished, neither is your mind disturbed in [your] body.

29 Toutes ces choses sont adhérentes à ta pensée, comme ton cœur à ta poitrine. Si le Seigneur rassemble en une seule toutes les nuées, c'est comme son tabernacle.

And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, [or] the measure of his tabernacle;

30 S'il s'enveloppe d'une lueur incertaine, la mer se trouble, et ses profondeurs sont cachées.

behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.

31 Il juge les peuples selon ce qu'ils valent; les plus puissants lui doivent leur nourriture.

For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.

32 Il a caché de ses mains la lumière, et, à cause d'elle, il a donné ses préceptes à ceux qui sont survenus.

He has hidden the light in [his] hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing [cloud].

33 Dieu et le bien mal acquis montreront que le Seigneur aime la lumière.

The Lord will declare concerning this [to] his friend: [but there is] a portion also for unrighteousness.
