Job 3
1 Après cela Job ouvrit la bouche
Afterward Iob opened his mouth, and cursed his day.
2 et il maudit son premier jour, disant:
And Iob cryed out, and sayd,
3 Périsse le jour où je suis né et cette nuit où ils dirent: Un homme est conçu.
Let the day perish, wherein I was borne, and the night when it was sayde, There is a man childe conceiued.
4 Que cette nuit reste obscure; que d'en haut jamais le Seigneur ne la rappelle; que jamais lueur ne vienne l'éclairer.
Let that day bee darkenesse, let not God regarde it from aboue, neyther let the light shine vpon it,
5 Que les ténèbres et les ombres de la mort s'en emparent: qu'un sombre tourbillon l'enveloppe; maudits soient ce jour
But let darkenesse, and the shadowe of death staine it: let the cloude remayne vpon it, and let them make it fearefull as a bitter day.
6 Et cette nuit; que l'obscurité la prenne; qu'elle ne compte pas dans les temps de l'année, et que dans les mois elle ne soit pas comprise.
Let darkenesse possesse that night, let it not be ioyned vnto the dayes of the yeere, nor let it come into the count of the moneths.
7 Mais qu'elle ne soit que douleur; qu'on n'y voie jamais joie ni fête.
Yea, desolate be that night, and let no ioy be in it.
8 Qu'elle soit maudite de Celui qui fait de ce jour un jour maudit et qui peut maîtriser le grand monstre marin.
Let them that curse the day, (being readie to renue their mourning) curse it.
9 Que les étoiles de cette nuit soient éclipsées; qu'elle ne cesse point; que la lumière ne lui revienne jamais; qu'elle ne voie plus lever l'astre qui annonce l'aurore.
Let the starres of that twilight be dimme through darkenesse of it: let it looke for light, but haue none: neither let it see the dawning of the day,
10 Car cette nuit n'a point clos des portes du ventre de ma mère: elle n'a point détourné de mes yeux la douleur.
Because it shut not vp the dores of my mothers wombe: nor hid sorowe from mine eyes.
11 Pourquoi ne suis-je pas mort dans les entrailles qui m'ont enfanté? Pourquoi ne suis-je pas mort, aussitôt que j'en suis sorti?
Why died I not in the birth? or why dyed I not, when I came out of the wombe?
12 Pourquoi des genoux m'ont-ils recueilli? Pourquoi ai-je sucé des mamelles?
Why did the knees preuent me? and why did I sucke the breasts?
13 Car, couché, je serais maintenant tranquille; endormi, je me reposerais,
For so shoulde I now haue lyen and bene quiet, I should haue slept then, and bene at rest,
14 Avec les rois arbitres de la terre, qui s'enorgueillissaient de leurs épées;
With the Kings and counselers of the earth, which haue buylded themselues desolate places:
15 Ou avec les grands qui possédaient beaucoup d'or et comblaient d'argent leurs demeures;
Or with the princes that had golde, and haue filled their houses with siluer.
16 Ou comme un fœtus avorté; ou comme les enfants nouveau-nés qui n'ont point vu la lumière.
Or why was I not hid, as an vntimely birth, either as infants, which haue not seene the light?
17 Dans ce lieu-là les impies ont consumé le feu de leur fureur; et ceux dont le corps a été brisé de fatigue ont trouvé le repos.
The wicked haue there ceased from their tyrannie, and there they that laboured valiantly, are at rest.
18 Et, avec eux, la foule qui n'a jamais entendu la voix du collecteur.
The prisoners rest together, and heare not the voyce of the oppressour.
19 Et le petit et le grand; et le serviteur qui a redouté son maître.
There are small and great, and the seruant is free from his master.
20 Pourquoi le jour a-t-il été donné à ceux qui sont dans l'amertume; et la vie, aux âmes pleines de douleurs?
Wherefore is the light giuen to him that is in miserie? and life vnto them that haue heauie hearts?
21 Ceux-là désirent la mort et ne l'obtiennent pas, semblables à l'homme qui creuse en vain cherchant un trésor,
Which long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures:
22 Et que la joie transporte s'il vient à le trouver.
Which ioy for gladnes, and reioyce, when they can finde the graue.
23 La mort est le repos de l'homme, car Dieu l'a éprouvé à son gré.
Why is the light giuen to the man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
24 Les gémissements me sont venus avant ma nourriture, et je pleure saisi de crainte.
For my sighing commeth before I eate, and my roarings are powred out like the water.
25 Car ce que j'avais redouté m'a atteint; ce que j'avais pressenti s'est réalisé.
For the thing I feared, is come vpon me, and the thing that I was afraid of, is come vnto me.
26 Je n'ai point vécu en paix; je n'ai eu ni calme ni repos, et la colère m'est venue.
I had no peace, neither had I quietnesse, neither had I rest, yet trouble is come.
