Job 14
1 L'homme, né de la femme, vit peu, et il est plein d'emportement.
Man that is borne of woman, is of short continuance, and full of trouble.
2 Il tombe comme une fleur s'épanouit; il passe comme une ombre; il n's'arrête jamais.
He shooteth foorth as a flowre, and is cut downe: he vanisheth also as a shadowe, and continueth not.
3 N'est-ce pas de vous qu'il tient sa raison? Et n'est-ce point vous qui l'appelez devant vous pour être jugé?
And yet thou openest thine eyes vpon such one, and causest me to enter into iudgement with thee.
4 Qui sera exempt de souillure? Personne.
Who can bring a cleane thing out of filthinesse? there is not one.
5 Sa vie sur la terre n'eût-elle duré qu'un jour. L'homme peut supputer lui- même le nombre de ses mois; vous avez fixé le terme; nul ne le dépasse.
Are not his dayes determined? the nober of his moneths are with thee: thou hast appointed his boundes, which he can not passe.
6 Détournez-vous donc de lui afin qu'il se repose et qu'il se complaise en sa vie, comme le travailleur à gages.
Turne from him that he may cease vntill his desired day, as an hyreling.
7 L'arbre ne perd point toute espérance; si on le taille, il fleurira encore, et il ne manquera pas de rejetons.
For there is hope of a tree, if it bee cut downe, that it will yet sproute, and the branches thereof will not cease.
8 S'il a vieilli, sa racine est encore en terre; si son tronc s'est flétri au milieu des rochers,
Though the roote of it waxe olde in the earth, and the stocke thereof be dead in ye ground,
9 La senteur de l'eau le ranimera, et il portera des fruits comme un jeune plant.
Yet by the sent of water it will bud, and bring foorth boughes like a plant.
10 L'homme meurt et il disparaît; le mortel tombe et il n'est plus.
But man is sicke, and dyeth, and man perisheth, and where is he?
11 La mer à la longue s'appauvrit; le fleuve abandonné à lui-même se dessèche;
As the waters passe from the sea, and as the flood decayeth and dryeth vp,
12 L'homme une fois couché ne se relèvera pas que le ciel ne se dissolve; les morts ne sortiront pas de leur sommeil.
So man sleepeth and riseth not: for hee shall not wake againe, nor be raised from his sleepe till the heauen be no more.
13 Puissiez-vous me garder dans les enfers; et me cacher jusqu'à ce que votre courroux s'apaise; et me marquer le temps où vous vous souviendrez de moi. (Sheol h7585)
Oh that thou wouldest hide me in the graue, and keepe me secret, vntill thy wrath were past, and wouldest giue me terme, and remember me. (Sheol h7585)
14 Car l'homme sera mort, lorsqu'il aura remplit les jours de sa vie, il vivra. J'attendrai jusqu'à ce que je renaisse.
If a man die, shall he liue againe? All the dayes of mine appointed time will I waite, till my changing shall come.
15 Vous m'appellerez alors et je vous obéirai: ne rejetez donc pas les œuvres de vos mains.
Thou shalt call me, and I shall answere thee: thou louest the worke of thine own hands.
16 Vous avez compté mes actions et nulle de mes fautes ne vous est échappée.
But nowe thou nombrest my steppes, and doest not delay my sinnes.
17 Vous avez scellé mes péchés dans un sac; vous avez mis un signe à ceux que la contrainte m'a fait commettre.
Mine iniquitie is sealed vp, as in a bagge, and thou addest vnto my wickednesse.
18 Mais les monts s'écroulent, les roches sont déracinées;
And surely as the mountaine that falleth, commeth to nought, and the rocke that is remooued from his place:
19 Les eaux aplanissent la pierre; les ondes couvrent les hautes cimes des monts; et vous avez détruit la patience de l'homme.
As the water breaketh the stones, when thou ouerflowest the things which growe in the dust of ye earth: so thou destroyest ye hope of man.
20 Vous l'avez poussé à la mort et il est parti; vous avez tourné vers lui votre visage et vous l'avez congédié.
Thou preuailest alway against him, so that he passeth away: he changeth his face when thou castest him away.
21 Des fils nombreux sont issus de lui et il n'en sait rien; sa postérité n'est pas nombreuse; il l'ignore.
And he knoweth not if his sonnes shall be honourable, neither shall he vnderstand concerning them, whether they shalbe of lowe degree,
22 Mais ses chairs ont connu la souffrance et son âme a été affligée.
But while his flesh is vpon him, he shall be sorowfull, and while his soule is in him, it shall mourne.
