Jérémie 5
1 Parcourez les rues de Jérusalem, voyez et informez-vous, cherchez dans ses places si vous y trouverez un homme, s'il en est un seul qui fasse la justice et qui désire la foi; et je leur pardonnerai, dit le Seigneur.
Cumpasse ye the weies of Jerusalem, and loke, and biholde ye, and seke ye in the stretis therof, whether ye fynden a man doynge doom, and sekynge feith; and Y schal be merciful to hem.
2 Ils disent: Vive le Seigneur! et en cela ne font-ils pas un faux serment?
That if also thei seien, The Lord lyueth, yhe, thei schulen swere this falsli.
3 Seigneur, vos yeux considèrent la foi; vous les avez flagellés, et ils ne l'ont point senti; vous les avez consumés, et ils n'ont point profité de la correction. Ils se sont fait un front plus dur que le roc, et n'ont point voulu se convertir.
Lord, thin iyen biholden feith; thou hast smyte hem, and thei maden not sorewe; thou hast al tobroke hem, and thei forsoken to take chastisyng; thei maden her faces hardere than a stoon, and nolden turne ayen.
4 Et j'ai dit: Peut-être sont-ils pauvres, et est-ce pour cela qu'ils sont faibles, et n'ont connu ni la voie du Seigneur ni le jugement de Dieu.
Forsothe Y seide, In hap thei ben pore men, and foolis, that knowen not the weie of the Lord, and the doom of her God.
5 J'irai donc vers les riches, et je leur parlerai; car ceux-là ont appris à connaître la voie du Seigneur et le jugement de Dieu; mais voilà qu'unanimement ils ont brisé le joug et mis en pièces les liens.
Therfor Y schal go to the principal men, and Y schal speke to hem; for thei knewen the weie of the Lord, and the doom of her God. And lo! thei han more broke togidere the yok, and han broke boondis.
6 C'est pourquoi, le lion sortant de la forêt les a blessés, et le loup les a détruits jusque dans leurs demeures, et la panthère s'est élevée contre leurs cités. Quiconque est issu d'eux sera poursuivi comme une proie, parce qu'ils ont multiplié leurs impiétés et se sont endurcis dans leurs rébellions.
Therfor a lioun of the wode smoot hem; a wolf at euentid wastide hem, a parde wakynge on the citees of hem. Ech man that goith out of hem, schal be takun; for the trespassyngis of hem ben multiplied, the turnyngis awei of hem ben coumfortid.
7 Comment puis-je leur être propice? Tes fils m'ont délaissé, et ils ont juré par ce qui n'est point Dieu; je les ai nourris en abondance, et ils ont commis des adultères, et ils ont logé dans les maisons des prostituées.
On what thing mai Y be merciful to thee? Thi sones han forsake me, and sweren bi hem that ben not goddis. Y fillide hem, and thei diden auowtrie, and in the hous of an hoore thei diden letcherie.
8 Ils sont devenus comme des chevaux courant après des cavales; chacun; s'est mis à hennir auprès de la femme de son prochain:
Thei ben maad horsis, and stalouns, louyeris to wymmen; ech man neiyede to the wijf of his neiybore.
9 Est-ce que je ne les visiterai pas pour ces choses? dit le Seigneur; est- ce que mon âme ne tirera pas vengeance d'un tel peuple?
Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, and schal not my soule take veniaunce in siche a folk?
10 Montez sur ses créneaux et renversez-les; mais ne la détruisez pas de fond en comble; laissez-en les fondations, parce qu'elles appartiennent au Seigneur.
Stye ye on the wallis therof, and distrie ye; but nyle ye make an endyng. Do ye awei the siouns therof, for thei ben not seruauntis of the Lord.
11 Parce que la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont gravement prévariqué contre moi, dit le Seigneur.
For whi the hous of Israel and the hous of Juda hath trespassid bi trespassyng ayens me, seith the Lord;
12 Elles ont menti au Seigneur, disant: Les choses ne sont pas ainsi, les maux ne viendront pas sur nous, et nous ne verrons ni le glaive ni la famine.
thei denyeden the Lord, and seiden, He is not, nether yuel schal come on vs; we schulen not se swerd and hungur.
13 Nos prophètes ont parlé en l'air, et la parole du Seigneur n'était pas en eux.
The profetis spaken ayens the wynd, and noon answer was in hem; therfor these thingis schulen come to hem.
14 A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur tout-puissant: En punition de ce que vous avez ainsi parlé, voilà que je fais de mes paroles un feu dans ta bouche, et le peuple sera le bois, et le feu consumera le peuple.
The Lord God of oostis seith these thingis, For ye spaken this word, lo! Y yyue my wordis in thi mouth in to fier, and this puple in to trees, and it schal deuoure hem.
15 Je vais amener de loin une nation sur vous, ô maison d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, une nation dont vous n'entendrez pas le langage.
Lo! thou hous of Israel, seith the Lord, Y schal brynge on you a folk fro fer; a strong folk, an eeld folk, `a folk whos langage thou schalt not knowe, nether schalt vndurstonde what it spekith.
16 Ce sont tous des hommes forts.
The arowe caas therof is as an opyn sepulcre; alle ben stronge men.
17 Et ils mangeront votre moisson et votre pain; ils dévoreront vos fils et vos filles, ils dévoreront vos brebis et vos bœufs, ils dévoreront vos vignes, vos figuiers et vos oliviers, et ils détruiront de fond en comble, par le glaive, vos places fortes, en qui vous aviez mis votre confiance.
And it schal ete thi cornes, and it schal deuoure thi breed, thi sones and thi douytris; it schal ete thi flok, and thi droues, it schal ete also thi vyner, and thi fige tre; and it schal al to-breke thi stronge citees bi swerd, in whiche thou hast trist.
18 En ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur votre Dieu, je ne vous exterminerai pas entièrement.
Netheles in tho daies, seith the Lord, Y schal not make you in to endyng.
19 Et lorsque vous direz: Pourquoi le Seigneur, notre Dieu, nous a-t-il fait ces choses? tu leur diras; En punition de ce que vous avez servi, dans votre terre, des dieux étrangers, vous aussi vous servirez des étrangers en une terre qui ne sera pas la vôtre.
That if ye seien, Whi hath oure Lord God do alle these thingis to vs? thou schalt seie to hem, As ye forsoken me, and serueden an alien god in youre lond, so ye schulen serue alien goddis in a lond not youre.
20 Publiez ces choses dans la maison de Jacob, et qu'elles soient entendues dans la maison de Juda.
Telle ye this to the hous of Jacob, and make ye herd in Juda, and seie ye,
21 Écoutez donc ces choses, peuplé insensé et sans cœur: qui avez des yeux, et ne voyez pas; qui avez des oreilles, et n'entendez pas.
Here, thou fonned puple, that hast noon herte; whiche han iyen, and seen not, and eeris, and heren not.
22 Ne me craindrez-vous point? dit le Seigneur; n'aurez-vous point de respect pour moi qui ai donné à la mer les sables pour limites? C'est un commandement éternel; et elle ne l'enfreindra point; elle s'agitera, mais elle ne prévaudra point; et ses flots bruiront, mais ils ne me désobéiront pas.
Therfor schulen not ye drede me, seith the Lord, and schulen not ye make sorewe for my face? Whiche haue set grauel a terme, ether ende, to the see, an euerlastynge comaundement, whiche it schal not passe; and the wawis therof schulen be mouyd, and schulen not haue power; and schulen wexe greet, and schulen not passe it.
23 Le cœur de ce peuple est indocile et incrédule; ils se sont détournés et éloignés de moi.
Forsothe an herte vnbileueful and terrynge to wraththe is maad to this puple; thei departiden,
24 Et ils n'ont point dit en leur âme: Craignons maintenant le Seigneur notre Dieu, qui nous a donné la pluie du printemps et cellede l'automne, comme il convient pour l'achèvement de la moisson au temps prescrit, et qui a veillé sur nous.
and yeden awei, and thei seiden not in her herte, Drede we oure Lord God, that yiueth to vs reyn tymeful, and lateful in his tyme; that kepith to vs the plente of heruest of the yeer.
25 Vos iniquités ont troublé ce cours des choses, et vos péchés ont éloigné de vous mes biens.
Youre wickidnessis diden awei these thingis, and youre synnes forbediden good fro you.
26 Parce que, parmi mon peuple, il s'est trouvé des impies, et ils ont placé des pièges pour perdre les hommes, et ils les ont surpris.
For ther ben foundun in my puple wickid men, settynge tresoun, as fouleres settynge snaris and trappis, to take men.
27 Tel un filet tendu est plein d'oiseaux, telle leur maison est pleine de fraude. Et c'est ainsi qu'ils sont devenus grands et se sont enrichis.
As a net, ether a trap, ful of briddis, so the housis of hem ben ful of gile. Therfor thei ben magnefied,
28 Et ils ont transgressé la justice, et ils n'ont point jugé la cause de l'orphelin ni jugé celle de la veuve.
and maad riche, maad fat with ynne, and maad fat with outforth, and thei passiden worst my wordis; thei demyden not a cause of a widewe, thei dressiden not the cause of a fadirles child, and thei demyden not the doom of pore men.
29 Et pour tout cela est-ce que je ne les visiterai pas? dit le Seigneur; est-ce que mon âme ne tirera pas vengeance d'un tel peuple?
Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, ether schal not my soule take veniaunce on sich a folk?
30 La stupeur et l'horreur ont régné sur la terre.
Wondur and merueilouse thingis ben maad in the lond;
31 Les prophètes prophétisent l'iniquité; les prêtres applaudissent des mains, et mon peuple les aime pour avoir fait ainsi. Que pouvez-vous faire de plus après cela?
profetis profesieden leesyng, and prestis ioieden with her hondis, and my puple louyde siche thingis. What therfor schal be don in the laste thing therof?
