Jérémie 19
1 Alors le Seigneur me dit: Va et achète un vase de terre fait par un potier, et emmène quelques-uns des anciens du peuple et des prêtres.
Thus said the Lord, Go and buy a bottle from a maker of earthenware, and [take] some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;
2 Et sors pour aller au cimetière des fils de leurs enfants, qui est devant la porte de Charsith, et fais-leur lecture de toutes les paroles que je vais te dire.
And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Charsith, and proclaim there the words that I will speak unto thee.
3 Et dis-leur: Écoutez la parole du Seigneur, rois de Juda, hommes de Juda, habitants de Jérusalem et vous qui entrez par les portes. Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: Voilà que je vais amener sur ce lieu des maux tels que les oreilles en tinteront de ceux qui en entendront parler,
And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil over this place, so that the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
4 En punition de ce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, de ce qu'ils ont aliéné ce lieu, et y ont sacrifié à des dieux étrangers, inconnus d'eux et de leurs pères, et de ce que les rois de Juda ont rempli ce lieu du sang des innocents;
For the reason that they have forsaken me, and have defiled this place, and have burnt incense in it unto other gods, which they had not known, either they or their fathers, or the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
5 Et de ce qu'ils ont bâti des hauts lieux à Baal pour y brûler leurs fils dans la flamme; ce que je n'ai point commandé, et dont je n'ai jamais eu la pensée en mon cœur.
And they have built the high-places of Ba'al, to burn their sons with fire as burnt-offerings unto Ba'al, which I had not commanded, nor spoken, and which had not come into my mind:
6 A cause de cela, voilà que les jours arrivent, dit le Seigneur, où l'on n'appellera plus ce lieu Topheth ni cimetière des fils d'Ennom, mais cimetière des égorgés.
Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called The Thopheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but, The valley of slaughter.
7 Car en ce lieu j'égorgerai les conseils de Juda et les conseils de Jérusalem, et je ferai tomber ce peuple sous le glaive, devant ses ennemis, par les mains de ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, et je donnerai ses morts en pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those that seek their life: and I will give their carcasses as food unto the fowls of the heaven, and unto the beasts of the earth.
8 Et j'amènerai sur cette ville la désolation et les sifflets; quiconque passera près d'elle se moquera et sifflera sur toutes ses plaies.
And I will render this city desolate, and an [object of] derision: every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.
9 Et ils mangeront les chairs de leurs fils et les chairs de leurs filles; et chacun mangera les chairs de son prochain, dans l'enceinte des fortifications que leurs ennemis auront investie.
And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his associate, in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and those that seek their life, shall distress them.
10 Et puis brise le vase de terre aux yeux des hommes qui t'auront accompagné;
Then shalt thou break the bottle before the eyes of the men that are going with thee.
11 Et ajoute: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ainsi je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, comme on brise un vase de terre qu'on ne peut plus rajuster.
And thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, In this manner will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be restored again; and in Thopheth shall they bury, for want of room to bury.
12 Ainsi ferai-je, dit le Seigneur, de ce lieu et de ceux qui l'habitent, pour que cette ville soit comme un lieu de carnage.
Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to its inhabitants, and to make this city as Thopheth:
13 Et les maisons de Jérusalem et les palais des rois de Juda seront comme un lieu de carnage, à cause de leurs impuretés dans toutes leurs maisons ou sur leurs terrasses; ils y ont encensé toute l'armée céleste et fait des libations à des dieux étrangers.
And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are unclean, shall become as the place of the Thopheth, with all the houses upon the roofs of which they have burnt incense to all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings to other gods.
14 Et Jérémie revint au lieu du carnage où l'avait envoyé le Seigneur pour y prophétiser, et il se tint dans le parvis du temple du Seigneur, et il dit à tout le peuple:
Then came Jeremiah from the Thopheth, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he placed himself in the court of the house of the Lord; and said to all the people,
15 Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Voilà que je vais amener sur cette ville et sur toutes ses villes et sur tous ses villages tous les maux dont je l'ai menacée, parce qu'ils ont endurci leur tête pour ne point obéir à mes commandements.
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have spoken against it; because they have hardened their neck, so as not to hear my words.
