Isaïe 8

1 Et le Seigneur me dit: Prends avec toi un grand livre tout neuf, et avec le stylet d'un écrivain écris sur ce livre que l'on ait à recueillir promptement du butin; car voici l'heure.

And the Lord said to me, Take to yourself a volume of a great new [book], and write in it with a man's pen concerning the making a rapid plunder of spoils; for it is near at hand.

2 Et assure-toi pour moi de deux témoins fidèles, Urie, et Zacharie, fils de Barachie.

And make me witnesses [of] faithful men, Urias, and Zacharias the son of Barachias.

3 Et je m'approchai de la prophétesse, et elle conçut, et elle enfanta un fils, et le Seigneur me dit: Appelle-le de ce nom: Dépouille vite, pille promptement.

And I went in to the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. And the Lord said to me, Call his name, Spoil quickly, plunder speedily.

4 Car, avant que l'enfant sache dire le nom de son père et de sa mère, il s'emparera des richesses de Damas et des dépouilles de Samarie devant le roi des Assyriens.

For before the child shall know [how] to call [his] father or [his] mother, [one] shall take the power of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria before the king of the Assyrians.

5 Et le Seigneur continua de me parler:

And the Lord spoke to me yet again, [saying],

6 Puisque ce peuple ne veut point de l'eau de Siloé, qui coule si paisible, mais qu'il veut avoir pour roi Basin et le fils de Romélie;

Because this people chooses not the water of Siloam that goes softly, but wills to have Rassin, and the son of Romelias [to be] king over you;

7 Voilà que le Seigneur amène sur vous l'eau d'un fleuve profond et impétueux, le roi des Assyriens et sa gloire; et il s'élèvera sur toutes vos vallées, et il foulera aux pieds tous vos remparts.

therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon you the water of the river, strong and abundant, [even] the king of the Assyrians, and his glory: and he shall come up over every valley of yours, and shall walk over every wall of yours:

8 Et il enlèvera de la Judée tout homme capable de lever la tète, tout guerrier capable de faire un exploit. Et son camp sera assez vaste pour couvrir toute l'étendue de ton pays; mais Dieu est avec nous!

and he shall take away from Juda [every] man who shall be able to lift up his head, [and every one] able to accomplish anything; and his camp shall fill the breadth of your land, [O] God with us.

9 Apprenez ceci, ô nations, vous êtes vaincues; prêtez-moi l'oreille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre; vous êtes fières de vos forces, et vous êtes vaincues; et si vous réunissez de nouvelles forces vous serez de nouveau vaincues.

Know, you Gentiles, and be conquered; listen you, even to the extremity of the earth: be conquered, after you strengthened yourselves; for even if you should again strengthen yourselves, you shall again be conquered.

10 Et quels que soient vos conseils, le Seigneur les dissipera; et quelles que soient vos paroles, elles ne s'accompliront point; car le Seigneur est avec nous.

And whatever counsel you shall take, the Lord shall bring it to nothing; and whatever word you shall speak, it shall not stand among you: for God is with us.

11 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Que d'une main ferme on s'éloigne de la voie de ce peuple;

Thus says the Lord, With a strong hand they revolt from the course of the way of this people, saying,

12 Que l'on ne dise pas: Cela est dur. Toute parole que dit ce peuple est toujours dure. N'aie cependant aucune crainte, et ne sois point dans le trouble.

Let them not say, [It is] hard, for whatever this people says, is hard: but fear not you their fear, neither be dismayed.

13 Ne sanctifie que le Seigneur, et que seul il soit l'objet de ta crainte.

Sanctify you the Lord himself; and he shall be your fear.

14 Et si tu mets en lui ta confiance, il sera ta sanctification; et tu ne te heurteras pas à lui comme à une pierre d'achoppement, comme à une roche qui croule. Mais les maisons de Jacob sont dans un piège, et les habitants de Jérusalem sont dans une fosse.

And if you shall trust in him, he shall be to you for a sanctuary; and you shall not come against [him] as against a stumbling-stone, neither as against the falling of a rock: but the houses of Jacob are in a snare, and the dwellers in Jerusalem in a pit.

15 C'est pourquoi beaucoup d'entre eux seront sans force, et ils tomberont, et ils seront brisés; ils approcheront du filet, et ils y seront pris.

Therefore many among them shall be weak, and fall, and be crushed; and they shall draw near, and men shall be taken securely.

16 Alors apparaîtront manifestement ceux qui ont été marqués d'un sceau pour n'avoir pas appris la loi.

Then shall those who seal themselves that they may not learn the law be made manifest.

17 Et je dirai: J'attendrai Dieu, qui a détourné sa face de la maison de Jacob, et je mettrai en lui ma confiance.

And [one] shall say, I will wait for God, who has turned away his face from the house of Jacob, and I will trust in him.

18 Et moi, me voici avec les fils que Dieu m'a donnés. Et il y aura des signes et des prodiges dans la maison d'Israël, envoyés par le Seigneur Dieu des armées, qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.

Behold I and the children which God has given me: and they shall be [for] signs and wonders in the house of Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in mount Sion.

19 Et si l'on vous dit: Consultez les magiciens et ceux qui font sortir leur voix de la terre, et les diseurs d'imposture qui parlent du ventre, répondez: Est-ce que chaque nation ne consulte pas son Dieu? Pourquoi consulter les morts au sujet des vivants?

And if they should say to you, Seek those who have in them a divining spirit, and them that speak out of the earth, them that speak vain words, who speak out of their belly: shall not a nation diligently seek to their God? why do they seek to the dead concerning the living?

20 Car Dieu a donné une loi pour qu'on y ait recours, et qu'on dise: Ce n'est pas selon ce précepte, qui interdit de donner pour cela des présents.

For he has given the law for a help, that they should not speak according to this word, concerning which there are no gifts to give for it.

21 Et il viendra sur vous une cruelle famille, et, quand vous aurez faim, il arrivera que vous serez dans l'affliction, et vous maudirez le prince et les coutumes de vos ancêtres; et le peuple lèvera les yeux au ciel,

And famine shall come sorely upon you, and it shall come to pass, [that] when you shall be hungry, you shall be grieved, and you shall speak ill of the prince and your fathers' ordinances: and they shall look up to heaven above,

22 Puis il les abaissera vers la terre; et voilà qu'il y aura détresse et ténèbres, tribulation et angoisses; et les ténèbres seront telles qu'on ne verra plus;

and they shall look on the earth below, and behold severe distress, and darkness, affliction, and anguish, and darkness so that [one can’t] see; and he that is in anguish shall not be distressed only for a time.
