Isaïe 48
1 Écoutez, maison de Jacob, vous qui portez le nom d'Israël, qui sortez de Juda et qui jurez au nom du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, qui faites mention de tout cela, mais non dans la vérité et la justice;
Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the spring of Judah, who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, —not in truth, nor in righteousness.
2 Qui gardez le nom de la ville sainte, et qui vous appuyez sur le Dieu d'Israël; le Seigneur des armées est son nom.
For of the holy city they call themselves, and upon the God of Israel they stay themselves, —The Lord of hosts is his name.
3 Je vous ai déjà fait connaître les choses des premiers temps: elles sont sorties de ma bouche, et tout s'est fait comme vous l'aviez entendu; j'ai agi soudain, et les faits sont advenus.
The former things have I declared from the beginning; and out of my mouth went they forth, and I announced them: suddenly did I accomplish them, and they came to pass;
4 Je sais que tu es dur; ton cou est un nerf de fer, et tu as un front d'airain.
Because I knew that thou art obstinate, that like an iron sinew is thy neck, and thy brow of copper;
5 Aussi t'ai-je prédit les choses longtemps avant qu'elles te fussent arrivées, et je te les ai fait connaître afin que tu ne puisses dire: Ce sont mes idoles qui m'ont fait ceci; et que tu ne puisses dire: Ce sont mes sculptures ou mes statues en fonte qui m'ont ordonné cela.
And I declared it to thee from the beginning; before yet it came to pass did I let thee hear it: lest thou should say, My idol hath done these things, and my graven image, and my molten image, have ordained them.
6 Tout ce que vous avez entendu autrefois, vous ne le connaissiez pas; mais je vais vous faire connaître des choses nouvelles, des choses présentes, et qui sont sur le point d'arriver. Et vous n'avez point dit:
Thou hast heard it; see it all now; and you—will you not declare it? I caused thee to hear new things, from this time, even hidden things which thou hadst not known.
7 Maintenant tout s'accomplit; quant à ceci, ce n'est pas une prédiction d'autrefois, et tu n'en as pas entendu parler les jours précédents; ne dis donc pas: Assurément je connais ces choses.
Now are they created, and not from the beginning; and before the day [that I announced them] thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
8 Tu ne les connais pas, tu n'en as rien su; je ne t'ai point ouvert les oreilles dès le commencement; car je savais qu'étant traître tu trahirais, et que dès le sein de ta mère tu serais appelé violateur de ma loi.
But neither hadst thou heard it; nor didst thou know; nor had in ancient times thy ear been opened; for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and a transgressor wast thou called from thy birth.
9 Mais à cause de mon nom je te montrerai ma colère; puis j'accomplirai devant toi mes merveilles afin que je ne t'extermine pas.
For the sake of my name will I defer my anger, and because of my praise will I restrain it toward thee, so that I may not cut thee off.
10 Voilà que je t'ai vendu, non à prix d'argent; mais je t'ai retiré d'une fournaise de misère.
Behold, I have refined thee, though not into silver: I have approved thee in the crucible of affliction.
11 A cause de moi, j'agirai ainsi pour toi; car mon nom a été profané, et je ne donnerai pas ma gloire à un autre.
For my own sake will I do it: for how would [my name] be dishonored? and my glory will I not give unto another.
12 Ecoute-moi donc, Jacob; écoute-moi, Israël, que j'appelle à moi: Je suis le premier, et je suis pour l'éternité.
Hearken unto me, O Jacob, and Israel, my called one; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
13 Et ma main a fondé la terre, et ma droite a affermi le ciel. Je les appellerai, et ils se présenteront à la fois;
My hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned out the heavens: I call unto them, they stand forward together.
14 Et ils se rassembleront tous, et ils m'écouteront. Qui a fait connaître ces choses à tes idoles? Par amour pour toi, j'ai fait contre Babylone ce que tu désirais, afin d'exterminer la race des Chaldéens.
Assemble yourselves, all of you, and hear: Who among them hath told these things? He whom the Lord loveth, will do his pleasure on Babylon, and [display] his arm [on] the Chaldeans.
15 J'ai parlé, j'ai appelé, je l'ai conduit et je lui ai préparé la voie.
I, even I, have spoken it, I have also called him: I have brought him, and he shall be prosperous on his way.
16 Approchez-vous de moi, écoutez ce que je vais vous dire: Dès le commencement je n'ai point parlé en secret; quand les choses ont été résolues, j'étais là, et maintenant le Seigneur Maître m'a envoyé, et avec lui son Esprit.
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; never from the beginning have I spoken in secret; from the time that it occurred, was I there. And now the Lord Eternal hath sent me, and his Spirit.
17 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, qui t'a délivré, le Saint d'Israël: Je suis ton Dieu, je t'ai montré comment tu trouverais la voie où tu dois marcher.
Thus hath said the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am the Lord thy God who teach thee for thy profit, who lead thee by the way thou shouldst go.
18 Et si tu avais été docile à mes commandements, ta paix aurait été comme un fleuve, et la justice comme les vagues de la mer.
Oh that thou hadst but listened to my commandments! then would have been as a river thy peace, and thy prosperity as the waves of the sea:
19 Et ta race aurait été comme le sable, et les fruits de tes entrailles comme la poussière des champs; et maintenant tu ne seras pas entièrement détruit, et ton nom ne périra pas devant moi.
And then would have been as the sand thy seed, and the offspring of thy body like the pebbles of the sea-shore; yet shall his name not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.
20 Sortez de Babylone, fuyez loin des Chaldéens; poussez un cri d'allégresse; écoutez ces paroles, publiez-les jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre, et dites: Le Seigneur a délivré son serviteur Jacob.
Go forth out of Babylon, flee away from the Chaldeans, with the voice of singing declare, announce this, carry it forth as far as the end of the earth; say, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
21 Et s'ils ont soif, il les guidera à travers le désert; il fera jaillir pour eux l'eau des rochers; la pierre s'ouvrira, des eaux en couleront, et mon peuple boira.
And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts; waters out of the rock he let drop down for them: and he cleaved the rock, and the waters gushed out.
22 Mais pour les impies, il n'y a point de joie, dit le Seigneur.
There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
