Isaïe 31

1 Malheur à vous qui descendez en Égypte pour chercher du secours, et qui mettez votre confiance en des chevaux et des chars, parce que les chars sont nombreux et que la multitude des cavaliers est grande! Ils n'ont point eu foi au Saint d'Israël, et ils n'ont point cherché le Seigneur.

Woe to those that go down to Egypt for help; and depend for support on horses, and trust on chariots, because they are many; and on horsemen, because they are very strong; but who turn not unto the Holy One of Israel, and seek not the Lord!

2 Et dans sa sagesse il leur a envoyé les maux prédits; et sa parole ne sera pas trompée; il s'élèvera contre les maisons des hommes pervers, et contre leur vaine espérance.

Yet he also is wise, and bringeth evil, and taketh not back his words; and riseth up against the house of evil-doers, and against the help of those that work injustice.

3 En un Égyptien, il y a un homme et non un Dieu; en des chairs de chevaux, il n'y a pas de secours; le Seigneur portera la main sur eux; et leurs auxiliaires seront défaillants, et ils périront tous à la fois.

But the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses are flesh, and not spirit; and the Lord will stretch out his hand, and there shall stumble the helper, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they all shall perish together.

4 Car voici ce que m'a dit le Seigneur: De même qu'un lion ou un lionceau rugit sur la proie qu'il a saisie, et crie jusqu'à ce qu'il ait rempli de sa voix les montagnes; alors les animaux sont abattus, et cette colère les fait tous trembler: ainsi le Seigneur Dieu des armées descendra pour combattre sur la montagne de Sion, sur ses montagnes.

For thus hath said the Lord unto me, Just as the lion or the young lion growleth over his prey, against whom is called forth the company of shepherds, of whose voice he is not afraid, and is not depressed because of their multitude: thus will the Lord come down, to fight on mount Zion and on its hill.

5 Tel un oiseau étend les ailes, tel le Seigneur couvrira Jérusalem; il la protègera et lui fera miséricorde; il prendra soin d'elle et la sauvera.

As fluttering birds, so will the Lord of hosts shield Jerusalem; shielding and delivering; sparing and preserving.

6 Convertissez-vous, fils d'Israël, qui avez formé au fond de vos cœurs un conseil impie.

Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

7 Car ce jour-là les hommes renonceront aux idoles d'or, aux idoles d'argent, œuvres de leurs mains.

For on that day shall every man despise his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.

8 Et Assur tombera; ce n'est pas le glaive d'un guerrier, ce n'est pas le glaive d'un homme qui le dévorera, et il ne fuira pas devant la face d'un glaive; et ses jeunes hommes seront en servitude;

Then shall Asshur fall by the sword of one who is not a man; and the sword of one who is not a son of earth shall devour him; and he shall flee him from the sword, and his young men shall become tributary.

9 Ils seront entourés de pierres comme d'une palissade, et ils seront défaits; et quiconque essayera de fuir sera pris. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Heureux celui qui a sa race en Sion, et sa demeure en Jérusalem!

And his stronghold shall pass away for fear, and his princes shall be terrified because of the ensign, saith the Lord, who hath a fire in Zion, and a furnace in Jerusalem.
