Isaïe 30

1 Malheur à vous, enfants rebelles! dit le Seigneur; vous avez tenu conseil, et ce n'est pas avec moi; vous avez pris des résolutions, et ce n'est pas avec mon Esprit; vous entassez péchés sur péchés,

Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of Me; and that form projects, but not of My spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

2 O vous qui êtes partis pour descendre en Égypte, sans me consulter, pour demander du secours au Pharaon, et trouver un abri chez les Égyptiens.

That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at My mouth; to take refuge in the stronghold of Pharaoh, and to take shelter in the shadow of Egypt!

3 Car l'appui du Pharaon sera pour vous une honte; et l'opprobre attend ceux qui se reposent sur l'Égypte.

Therefore shall the stronghold of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your confusion.

4 Car vos princes sont allés à Tanis, messagers de malheur.

For his princes are at Zoan, and his ambassadors are come to Hanes.

5 Ils ont pris une peine inutile auprès d'un peuple qui ne les aidera point pour le secours, mais pour la confusion et l'opprobre.

They shall all be ashamed of a people that cannot profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

6 Ils vont dans l'affliction et la détresse, là où il y a un lion et un lionceau, et d'où viennent aussi des aspics et des petits d'aspics volants; ils ont transporté sur des ânes et des chamelles leurs richesses près d'une nation qui ne les aidera point.

The burden of the beasts of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lioness and the lion, the viper and flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

7 Les Égyptiens vous donneront un secours vain et inutile; dis-leur: Cette consolation pour vous est vaine.

For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I called her arrogancy that sitteth still.

8 Maintenant donc, assieds-toi; écris ces choses sur le buis et dans un livre; car ce sera pour les jours de l'avenir et même pour tous les siècles.

Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.

9 Parce que ce peuple est indocile; fils menteurs, qui ne veulent point écouter la loi de Dieu,

For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children that refuse to hear the teaching of the LORD;

10 Ils disent aux prophètes: Ne nous annoncez rien; ils disent à ceux qui ont des visions: Ne nous parlez pas; mais annoncez-nous quelque autre erreur.

That say to the seers: 'See not,' and to the prophets: 'Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy delusions;

11 Détournez-nous de cette voie; ôtez-nous le sentier, ôtez-nous l'oracle d'Israël.

Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.'

12 A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Saint d'Israël: Parce que vous n'avez point obéi à ces paroles, parce que vous avez espéré dans le mensonge, parce que vous avez murmuré et que vous avez mis votre confiance en vos murmures;

Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon;

13 A cause de cela, ce péché sera pour vous comme un mur qui s'écroule soudain, lorsque est prise une ville dont la chute est inopinée.

Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

14 Et sa chute sera comme quand on brise un vase de poterie; les fragments en sont tels qu'on n'y peut trouver un tesson à transporter du feu, ou à puiser un peu d'eau.

And He shall break it as a potter's vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing; so that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water out of the cistern.

15 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le Seigneur saint d'Israël: Lorsque après t'être perverti tu te lamenteras, tu seras sauvé, et tu sauras où tu étais; car tu croyais en des vanités, des vanités étaient ta force, et tu n'as pas voulu m'entendre.

For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: in sitting still and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength; and ye would not.

16 Mais vous avez dit: nous fuirons à cheval; à cause de cela, vous fuirez. Vous avez dit: Nous serons sur des chevaux agiles; à cause de cela, ils seront agiles aussi les chevaux qui vous poursuivront.

But ye said: 'No, for we will flee upon horses'; therefore shall ye flee; and: 'We will ride upon the swift'; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

17 Mille des vôtres fuiront à la voix d'un seul ennemi; une multitude fuira à la voix de cinq hommes, jusqu'à ce que vous restiez comme un mât sur une montagne, ou comme la hampe qui porte un étendard sur une colline.

One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one, at the rebuke of five shall ye flee; till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on a hill.

18 Et Dieu vous attendra encore pour vous prendre en compassion; et en cela il signalera sa gloire en vous faisant miséricorde; car le Seigneur votre Dieu est le juge. Heureux ceux qui l'attendent!

And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have compassion upon you; for the LORD is a God of justice, happy are all they that wait for Him.

19 Car le peuple saint demeurera en Sion, et Jérusalem pleurera à chaudes larmes, disant: Ayez pitié de moi! Et le Seigneur aura pitié de toi, quand il t'aura vue crier et qu'il t'aura entendue.

For, O people that dwellest in Zion at Jerusalem, thou shalt weep no more; He will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry, when He shall hear, He will answer thee.

20 Et le Seigneur vous donnera le pain de l'affliction et l'eau de la détresse; et ceux qui t'égarent n'approcheront plus de toi; car tes yeux verront ceux qui t'égarent.

And though the Lord give you sparing bread and scant water, yet shall not thy Teacher hide Himself any more, but thine eyes shall see thy Teacher;

21 Et tes oreilles entendront les discours de ceux qui, derrière toi, t'auront égarée, disant: Voici la voie, suivons-la, soit à droite, soit à gauche.

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying: 'This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.'

22 Alors tu souilleras les idoles argentées, et tu réduiras en poudre les idoles d'or, et tu les jetteras au loin comme l'eau des menstrues, et tu les repousseras comme la fange.

And ye shall defile thy graven images overlaid with silver, and thy molten images covered with gold; thou shalt put them far away as one unclean; thou shalt say unto it: 'Get thee hence.'

23 Alors il tombera de la pluie sur les grains que tu auras semés; alors le pain des fruits de la terre sera plantureux et succulent. Et en ce jour tout bétail broutera dans des pâturages spacieux et fertiles.

And He will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou sowest the ground, and bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous; in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.

24 Et vos taureaux et vos bœufs de labour mangeront de la paille assaisonnée d'orge vannée.

The oxen likewise and the young asses that till the ground shall eat savoury provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

25 Et en ce jour l'eau coulera sur toute haute montagne, sur toute colline élevée, longue beaucoup d'hommes auront péri et que leurs tours seront tombées.

And there shall be upon every lofty mountain, and upon every high hill streams and watercourses, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

26 Et la lumière de la lune sera comme la lumière du soleil; et la lumière du soleil sera septuple durant le jour, lorsque le Seigneur aura pansé les meurtrissures de son peuple, et guéri les douleurs de ses plaies.

Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of the seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the bruise of His people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

27 Voici que le nom du Seigneur arrive après un long temps; sa fureur est ardente; la parole de ses lèvres est pleine de gloire; sa parole est pleine de colère, et les transports de sa fureur dévorent comme le feu.

Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, with His anger burning, and in thick uplifting of smoke; His lips are full of indignation, and His tongue is as a devouring fire;

28 Et son souffle, comme l'eau qui se précipite dans un vallon, montera jusqu'au cou; et il se divisera pour troubler les nations au sujet de leurs vaines erreurs; et l'erreur aussi les poursuivra, et les prendra en face.

And His breath is as an overflowing stream, that divideth even unto the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction; and a bridle that causeth to err shall be in the jaws of the peoples.

29 Ne devrez-vous pas alors être toujours en joie, et toujours entrer dans mes lieux saints, comme aux jours de fête? Ne devrez-vous pas, comme ceux qui se réjouissent, venir au son des flûtes sur la montagne du Seigneur, devant le Dieu d'Israël?

Ye shall have a song as in the night when a feast is hallowed; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with the pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.

30 Et le Seigneur fera entendre sa voix glorieuse, et la fureur de son bras, qui se manifestera par des transports de colère et une flamme dévorante; sa foudre éditera violemment comme de l'eau et de la grêle qui tombe avec impétuosité.

And the LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of His arm, with furious anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a bursting of clouds, and a storm of rain, and hailstones.

31 Car les Assyriens seront vaincus à la voix du Seigneur, par la plaie dont il les frappera.

For through the voice of the LORD shall Asshur be dismayed, the rod with which He smote.

32 Et c'est là ce qui lui arrivera de tous les alentours, de toute contrée d'où il espérait du secours, et en qui il se confiait; les peuples, au contraire, viendront le combattre au son des tambours et des cithares.

And in every place where the appointed staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps; and in battles of wielding will He fight with them.

33 Car vous serez requis avant le temps, Seigneur; tout n'est-il pas préparé pour votre règne, un ravin profond, des arbres abattus, le feu et un vaste bûcher? La colère du Seigneur est comme une vallée embrasée par le soufre.

For a hearth is ordered of old; yea, for the king it is prepared, deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.
