Isaïe 22
1 Parole de la Vallée de Sion. D'où vient que maintenant vous êtes montés sur vos terrasses, disant des paroles
The oracle on the valley of vision, —What aileth thee, then, That thou art wholly gone up to the house-tops?
2 Vaines? La ville est pleine de clameurs; tes blessés ne sont pas blessés par le glaive, et tes morts ne sont pas morts en combattant.
With tumults, art thou filled, thou citadel in commotion! city exultant! Thy slain, are Not the slain, of the sword, Nor the dead in battle.
3 Tous tes princes sont en fuite; tes captifs sont durement enchaînés, et tes forts se sont réfugiés au loin.
All thy ruler, having fled, together, by the bow, are taken captive: All found in thee have been taken captive, together, Far away, have they fled.
4 Et c'est pourquoi j'ai dit: Laissez-moi et je pleurerai amèrement; ne cherchez pas à me consoler, quand vient d'être brisée la fille de mon sang.
For this cause, I said—Look away from me, Bitterly, will I weep, —Do not press to comfort me, For the ruin of the daughter of my people.
5 Car le jour du trouble et de la ruine, où tout est brisé et s'égare, vient du Seigneur Dieu des armées. Ils errent dans la vallée de Sion; du petit au grand ils errent sur les montagnes.
For a day of confusion and downtreading and perplexity, pertaineth to My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, in the valley of vision, an undermining of walls, and a crying for help to the mountain.
6 Les Élamites ont pris leurs carquois; les cavaliers sont à cheval, les armées se rassemblent.
Yea, Elam, beareth the quiver, With trains of men, [and] horsemen, —And, Kir, hath uncovered the shield.
7 Et tes vallons préférés seront remplis de chars, et des cavaliers envahiront les portes de Juda,
And it hath come to pass that the choice of thy vales, are full of chariots; Yea, the horsemen, have set themselves, in array, at the gate.
8 Et ils en ouvriront les portes; et ce jour-là ils pénètreront dans les demeures choisies de la cité;
Then removed he the veil of Judah, —Yea thou didst peer on that day, into the armoury of the forest-house;
9 Et, dans la citadelle de David, ils découvriront les endroits les plus cachés des maisons. Et ils ont vu combien elles sont nombreuses, et comme on a détourné l'eau de l'ancienne piscine pour ramener dans la ville,
And the breaches in the city of David, ye beheld for they were many, —So ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool;
10 Et comme on a abattu les maisons de Jérusalem pour fortifier ses remparts.
And the houses of Jerusalem, ye counted, —And brake down the houses, to fortify the wall;
11 Et ainsi pour vous-mêmes, vous avez fait venir l'eau entre les deux enceintes, plus avant que l'ancienne piscine; mais vous n'avez point considéré celui qui, dès le principe, a bâti la ville, et vous n'avez point vu son Créateur.
And a reservoir, ye made between the two walls, for the waters of the ancient pool, —And had no regard unto him that made it, Nor unto him that formed it long ago, had ye respect.
12 Et le Seigneur, le Seigneur des armées, vous a en ce jour appelés à pleurer et à gémir, à vous raser la tête et à vous ceindre de cilices;
And, when My Lord Yahweh of hosts called in that day, —for weeping, and for lamentation, and for shaving bare and for girding with sackcloth,
13 Mais eux, ils étaient en joie et en plaisirs à égorger des veaux, à immoler des brebis, à manger de la chair et à boire du vin, disant: Mangeons et buvons, car nous mourrons demain.
Then lo! joy and rejoicing, killing oxen and slaughtering sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine, —Let us eat and drink, For to-morrow, we may die!
14 Et ces choses ont été révélées aux oreilles du Dieu des armées; car ce péché ne vous a pas été remis jusqu'à votre mort.
Therefore did Yahweh reveal himself in mine ears. Surely there shall be no propitiatory-covering put over this iniquity for you until ye die, Saith My Lord Yahweh of hosts.
15 Voici donc ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu des armées: Va trouver, au vestibule du temple, Somna, le trésorier, et dis-lui:
Thus, said My Lord Yahweh, of hosts, Come go in unto this steward, Unto Shebna, who is over the house:
16 Pourquoi es-tu ici, et qu'y fais-tu? Pourquoi as-tu taillé ici ton sépulcre? pourquoi l'as-tu placé sur un lieu élevé, et y as-tu creusé pour toi un lieu de repos?
What doest thou here? And whom hast thou here? That thou hast hewn for thyself here a sepulchre, —As one hewing on high his sepulchre, Cutting out in the cliff a habitation for himself?
17 Voilà qu'à présent le Seigneur Dieu des armées va chasser et briser cet homme; il va t'enlever ta robe
Lo! Yahweh, is about to hurl thee, with a hurl, O mighty man, —And roll thee with a roll;
18 Et ta couronne de gloire, et il te jettera dans une grande et immense campagne, et là tu mourras; et Dieu fera de ton char brillant un objet de honte, et le palais de ton prince sera foulé aux pieds;
He will, toss, thee, with a toss, like a ball, into a country wide on both hands, —There, shalt thou die, And there shall thy glorious chariots be the contempt of the house of thy lord.
19 Et tu seras renversé de ton rang et de ton ministère.
Thus will I thrust thee out from thine office, —And from thy station, shall one tear thee down.
20 Et ce jour-là j'appellerai mon serviteur Éliacim, fils d'Helcias,
And it shall come to pass in that day, That I will call for my servant, for Eliakim son of Hilkiah,
21 Et je le revêtirai de ta robe, et je lui donnerai ta couronne avec l'empire, et je confierai ton ministère à ses mains, et il sera comme un père pour ceux qui résident à Jérusalem et habitent en Judée.
And will clothe him with thy tunic And with thy girdle, will I gird him, And thine authority, will I deliver into his hand, —So shall he become a father To the inhabitant of Jerusalem and To the house of Judah.
22 Et je lui donnerai la gloire de David, et il gouvernera, et il n'aura point de contradicteur;
And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder, —And he shall open and none shall shut, And shut and none shall open;
23 Et je l'établirai prince en un lieu sûr, et il sera comme un trône de gloire pour la maison de son père.
And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, —And he shall become a throne of glory, to the house of his father;
24 Et tout homme en honneur dans la maison de son père, du petit au grand, mettra sa confiance en lui, et tous dépendront de lui.
And they shall hang upon him all the weight of his father’s house—The offshoots and the side-twigs—All the small vessels, Both the cups and all the jugs
25 En ce jour, voilà ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu des armées: L'homme qui avait été établi en un lieu sûr, y sera ébranlé; il en sera arraché, et il tombera, et sa gloire sera anéantie; parce qu'ainsi l'a dit le Seigneur.
In that day, —Declareth Yahweh of hosts Shall the peg, give way, that was fastened in a sure place, —Yea it shall be cut off and fall And the burden that was upon it shall perish, For, Yahweh, hath spoken!
