Genèse 43

1 Cependant, la famine persistait sur la terre.

Now great famine was in the land.

2 Lorsqu'ils eurent fini de manger le blé qu'ils avaient rapporté d'Égypte, leur père dit: Partez de nouveau, et achetez-nous un peu de blé.

And when they had eaten vp the vitaile, which they had brought from Egypt, their father sayd vnto them, Turne againe, and bye vs a little foode.

3 Juda répondit: L'homme maître de la contrée a protesté, et nous a dit: Vous ne verrez pas ma face, si votre frère le plus jeune n'est pas avec vous.

And Iudah answered him, saying, The man charged vs by an othe, saying, Neuer see my face, except your brother be with you.

4 Si donc tu envoies avec nous notre frère, nous descendrons et nous t'achèterons du blé.

If thou wilt sende our brother with vs, we will goe downe, and bye thee foode:

5 Mais si tu n'envoies pas avec nous notre frère, nous ne partirons pas, car l'homme nous a dit: Vous ne verrez pas ma face, si votre frère le plus jeune n'est pas avec vous.

But if thou wilt not send him, we wil not go downe: for the man said vnto vs, Looke me not in the face, except your brother be with you.

6 Pourquoi, dit Israël, m'avez-vous fait ce mal de dire à l'homme que vous aviez un frère?

And Israel sayd, Wherefore delt ye so euill with me, as to tell the man, whether ye had yet a brother or no?

7 Et ils reprirent: L'homme nous a interrogés sur nous et notre famille, disant: Votre père vit-il encore? Avez-vous un frère? Nous lui avons répondu selon ses questions. Pouvions-nous prévoir qu'il nous dirait: Amenez-moi votre frère?

And they answered, The man asked straitly of our selues and of our kinred, saying, Is your father yet aliue? haue ye any brother? And wee tolde him according to these wordes: could we knowe certainely that he would say, Bring your brother downe?

8 Juda dit alors à Israël, son père: Envoie l'enfant avec moi, et nous partirons, afin que nous vivions et que nous ne mourions pas, nous et toute ta maison.

Then sayde Iudah to Israel his father, Send the boy with mee, that we may rise and goe, and that we may liue and not dye, both we, and thou, and our children.

9 C'est moi qui reçois mon frère, réclame-le de ma main; si je ne le ramène pas en ta demeure, si je ne le remets pas devant tes yeux, je serai coupable envers toi tous les jours de ma vie.

I wil be suertie for him: of mine hand shalt thou require him. If I bring him not to thee, and set him before thee, then let me beare the blame for euer.

10 Si nous n'avions point ainsi tardé, nous serions déjà revenus deux fois.

For except we had made this tarying, doutlesse by this we had returned the second time.

11 Et Jacob, leur père, dit: Puisqu'il en est ainsi, faites comme je vais dire: prenez dans vos sacs des fruits de cette terre, et portez à l'homme des présents de gomme et de miel, portez-lui de l'encens, de la térébenthine, de la myrrhe et des amandes.

Then their father Israel sayd vnto them, If it must needes be so now, do thus: take of the best fruites of the lande in your vessels, and bring the man a present, a little rosen, and a little hony, spices and myrrhe, nuttes, and almondes:

12 Emportez le double d'argent; reportez celui qui a été retrouvé dans vos sacs, de peur que ce ne soit une méprise.

And take double money in your hande, and the money, that was brought againe in your sackes mouthes: cary it againe in your hand, lest it were some ouersight.

13 Enfin, prenez votre frère, et descendez chez l'homme.

Take also your brother and arise, and go againe to the man.

14 Que Dieu vous fasse trouver grâce devant lui; qu'il renvoie votre frère qu'il a gardé, et aussi Benjamin; et moi cependant, me voici comme sans enfants! sans enfants!

And God almightie giue you mercie in the sight of the man, that hee may deliuer you your other brother, and Beniamin: but I shall be robbed of my childe, as I haue bene.

15 Ayant ainsi pris les dons, et l'argent double, les hommes emmenèrent Benjamin; ils descendirent en Égypte, et ils parurent devant Joseph.

Thus the men tooke this present, and tooke twise so much money in their hande with Beniamin, and rose vp, and went downe to Egypt and stoode before Ioseph.

16 Lorsqu'il les vit, lorsqu'il vit Benjamin son frère, né de la même mère que lui, il dit à l'intendant de sa maison: Conduis ces hommes, égorge et apprête des victimes; ces hommes mangeront avec moi, à midi.

And whe Ioseph saw Beniamin with them, he sayde to his stewarde, Bring these men home and kill meate, and make ready: for the men shall eate with me at noone.

17 Le serviteur fit ce qu'avait commandé Joseph, et il introduisit les hommes en la maison de Joseph.

And the man did as Ioseph bad, and brought the men vnto Iosephs house.

18 Or, les hommes, se voyant en la maison de Joseph, dirent entre eux: On nous amène ici, à cause de l'argent remporté dans nos sacs la première fois, pour nous calomnier, mettre la main sur nous, nous faire esclaves, et prendre nos ânes.

Nowe when the men were brought into Iosephs house, they were afrayd, and sayd, Because of the money, that came in our sackes mouthes at the first time, are we brought, that hee may picke a quarrell against vs, and lay some thing to our charge, and bring vs in bondage and our asses.

19 Ayant donc abordé l'intendant de Joseph, ils lui parlèrent dans le vestibule de la maison,

Therefore came they to Iosephs stewarde, and communed with him at the doore of ye house.

20 Disant: Nous te prions, seigneur; nous sommes venus une fois acheter du blé;

And said, Oh syr, we came in deede down hither at the first time to bye foode,

21 Et, lorsque nous arrivâmes à la première halte nous ouvrîmes nos sacs, et l'argent de chacun s'y trouvait; maintenant, nous rapportons en nos mains cet argent, du même poids.

And as wee came to an ynne and opened our sackes, behold, euery mans money was in his sackes mouth, euen our money in full weight, but we haue brought it againe in our handes.

22 Nous avons de plus, avec nous, d'autre argent pour acheter du blé; mais nous ne savons pas qui a remis l'argent dans nos sacs.

Also other money haue we brought in our handes to bye foode, but we cannot tell, who put our money in our sackes.

23 Il leur répondit: Dieu vous soit propice; n'ayez point de crainte: votre Dieu, le Dieu de vos pères, a mis des trésors dans vos sacs; car pour moi j'ai encore votre argent, qui est de bon aloi. Ensuite, il fit venir Siméon auprès d'eux;

And he said, Peace be vnto you, feare not: your God and the God of your father hath giuen you that treasure in your sackes, I had your money: and he brought forth Simeon to them.

24 Il leur apporta de l'eau à laver les pieds, et il fit manger leurs ânes.

So the man led them into Iosephs house, and gaue them water to wash their feete, and gaue their asses prouender.

25 Pour eux, ils apprêtèrent leurs présents, en attendant que Joseph vînt à midi; car ils avaient appris qu'il se disposait à dîner où ils étaient.

And they made ready their present against Ioseph came at noone, (for they heard say, that they should eate bread there)

26 Joseph entra dans la maison, et ils lui présentèrent les dons qu'ils tenaient en leurs mains, se prosternant devant lui la face contre terre.

When Ioseph came home, they brought the present into the house to him, which was in their handes, and bowed downe to the grounde before him.

27 Il leur dit: Comment vous portez-vous? Puis il ajouta: Est-il en bonne santé votre père, le vieillard dont vous m'avez parlé? Vit-il encore?

And he asked them of their prosperitie, and sayd, Is your father the olde man, of whome ye tolde me, in good health? is he yet aliue?

28 Ils répondirent: Ton serviteur notre père est en bonne santé; il vit encore. Il reprit: Dieu bénisse cet homme; et, s'étant courbés, ils se prosternèrent devant lui.

Who answered, Thy seruant our father is in good health, he is yet aliue: and they bowed downe, and made obeysance.

29 Alors, Joseph, ayant levé les yeux, aperçut Benjamin, son frère, né de la même mère que lui, et il dit: C'est là votre frère le plus jeune, que vous aviez promis de m'amener? Et il ajouta: Dieu aie pitié de toi, enfant.

And he lifting vp his eyes, beheld his brother Beniamin his mothers sonne, and sayde, Is this your yonger brother, of whome ye tolde me? And he said, God be merciful vnto thee, my sone.

30 Aussitôt Joseph fut troublé; ses entrailles étaient émues à cause de son frère, il avait besoin de pleurer; et étant entré dans sa chambre à coucher, il y pleura.

And Ioseph made haste (for his affection was inflamed towarde his brother, and sought where to weepe) and entred into his chamber, and wept there.

31 Puis s'étant lavé le visage, il revint, et, se maîtrisant, il dit: Servez le repas.

Afterward he washed his face, and came out, and refrained himselfe, and sayd, Set on meate.

32 L'on servit des mets, à lui d'abord, puis à ses frères, à part, puis à part aussi aux Égyptiens qui dînaient avec lui, car les Égyptiens ne peuvent manger avec les Hébreux; c'est à leurs yeux une abomination.

And they prepared for him by himselfe, and for them by themselues, and for the Egyptians, which did eate with him, by themselues, because the Egyptians might not eate bread with the Ebrewes: for that was an abomination vnto the Egyptians.

33 Les frères de Joseph étaient assis en face de lui le premier-né, selon son droit d'aînesse; le plus jeune, selon son âge tendre; et chacun était assis à sa place en face de son frère.

So they sate before him: the eldest according vnto his age, and the yongest according vnto his youth. and the men marueiled among themselues.

34 L'on apporta devant eux des parts que leur envoyait Joseph, mais la part de Benjamin était cinq fois plus grande que toutes les autres; et ils burent, et ils se réjouirent avec lui.

And they tooke meases from before him, and sent to them: but Beniamins mease was fiue times so much as any of theirs: and they drunke, and had of the best drinke with him.
