1 Deux ans après, le Pharaon eut un songe: il lui sembla se tenir près du fleuve.
And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
2 Il crut voir en sortir sept vaches extrêmement belles et grasses en leur chair, qui se mirent à paître dans la prairie.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, of good appearance and fat in flesh; and they fed in the meadow.
3 Après celles-là, il sortit du fleuve sept autres vaches, laides et maigres, qui se mirent à paître à côté des autres sur la rive.
And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean in flesh; and they stood by the other cows upon the brink of the river.
4 Mais les sept vaches laides et maigres dévorèrent les sept autres belles et grasses, et le Pharaon s'éveilla.
And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed cows did eat up the seven well-favored and fat cows. And Pharaoh awoke.
5 Il eut ensuite un second songe: c'étaient sept épis sortant d'une même tige, beaux et choisis.
And he slept and dreamed a second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up on one stalk, rank and good.
6 Et après ceux-là poussèrent sept épis maigres et amincis par le vent.
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
7 Les sept épis maigres et amincis par le vent mangèrent les épis choisis et pleins. Et le Pharaon s'éveilla: le songe était fini.
And the seven thin ears swallowed up the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
8 Lorsque le jour parut, son âme fut troublée; il envoya mander tous les interprètes de l'Égypte et tous les sages; il leur raconta ses songes, et il n'y eut là personne pour les expliquer au Pharaon.
And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret the same unto Pharaoh.
9 Alors, le grand échanson parla au Pharaon, disant: Je me souviens aujourd'hui de ma faute.
Then spoke the chief of the butlers unto Pharaoh, saying, My faults I must call to remembrance this day:
10 Le Pharaon était irrité contre ses serviteurs, et il nous avait mis en prison dans la maison du chef des cuisines, moi et le grand panetier.
Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guards, me and the chief of the bakers;
11 Et nous eûmes chacun un songe en la même nuit; le grand panetier et moi séparément, nous eûmes chacun un songe.
And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each in accordance with the interpretation of his dream.
12 Or, il y avait là, avec nous, un jeune Hébreu, serviteur du chef des cuisines; nous lui dîmes nos songes, et il les interpréta.
And there was with us a Hebrew lad, a servant to the captain of the guards; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each according to his dream did he interpret.
13 Et, selon son interprétation, il nous advint à moi d'être rétabli dans mon office, et au grand panetier d'être suspendu à une croix.
And it came to pass, just as he had interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto my office, and him he hanged.
14 Le Pharaon envoya aussitôt mander Joseph. Ses gens l'amenèrent, le rasèrent, lui passèrent une autre robe, et il entra vers le Pharaon.
Then Pharaoh sent and had Joseph called, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his garments, and came in unto Pharaoh.
15 Et le Pharaon dit à Joseph: J'ai eu un songe, et il n'est ici personne pour l'interpréter; or, j'ai ouï dire que des songes t'ayant été racontés, tu en avais donné l'interprétation.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
16 Joseph répondit au Pharaon: Sans l'aide de Dieu il ne peut être donné au Pharaon de réponse salutaire.
And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God will give an answer for the peace of Pharaoh.
17 Et le Pharaon dit à Joseph: En mon sommeil, il me sembla me tenir sur les bords du fleuve.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the river;
18 Je crus voir sortir du fleuve sept vaches extrêmement belles et grasses en leur chair, qui se mirent à paître dans la prairie.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat in flesh and good in shape; and they fed in the meadow;
19 Derrière elles, il sortit du fleuve sept autres vaches, mauvaises, laides et maigres, telles que dans toute l'Égypte je n'en ai jamais vu de plus laides.
And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ill-shaped and lean in flesh; I never saw any like these in all the land of Egypt for ugliness;
20 Et les sept vaches laides et maigres mangèrent les sept premières, qui étaient belles et grasses.
And the lean and the ill-favored cows did eat up the first seven fat cows;
21 Celles-ci entrèrent dans leurs entrailles; et il ne parut point qu'elles eussent été ainsi absorbées dans leur ventre, car l'aspect des maigres resta ce qu'il était d'abord; et, après m'être éveillé, je me rendormis.
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but their appearance was still as bad as at the beginning. And I awoke.
22 Ensuite, j'eus dans mon sommeil une nouvelle vision: il me sembla que sept épis se levaient sur une même tige, beaux et pleins.
And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, full and good;
23 Et sept autres épis, maigres et amincis par le vent, poussèrent après ceux-là.
And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them;
24 Puis, les sept épis maigres et amincis par le vent mangèrent les sept épis beaux et pleins. J'ai parlé aux interprètes, et il ne s'est trouvé parmi eux personne pour me donner une explication.
And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could tell it to me.
25 Joseph répondit au Pharaon: Le songe du Pharaon est un seul et même songe; Dieu a montré au Pharaon ce qu'il doit faire.
And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, the dream of Pharaoh is one, that which God is about to do, he hath told to Pharaoh.
26 Les sept vaches grasses sont sept années, les sept épis pleins sont sept années aussi; le songe du Pharaon est un seul et même songe.
The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.
27 Les sept vaches maigres qui sortent du fleuve après les premières, sont sept années, et les sept épis maigres, amincis par le vent, sont sept années: il y aura sept années de famine.
And the seven thin and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears, blasted with the east wind, shall be seven years of famine.
28 C'est ce que je viens de dire au Pharaon: Dieu lui a montré ce qu'il veut faire.
This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he hath shown unto Pharaoh.
29 Pendant sept années, il y aura grande abondance en toute la terre d'Égypte.
Behold, there are coming seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30 Ensuite, viendront sept années de famine, et l'on oubliera l'abondance qu'il y aura eu en toute l'Égypte; la famine épuisera toute la terre.
And there shall arise seven years of famine after them, when all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
31 Et l'abondance ne laissera pas de traces sur la terre à cause de la famine qui viendra après elle; car cette famine sera terrible.
And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following it; for it shall be very grievous.
32 Si le songe du Pharaon s'est produit deux fois, c'est pour signifier qu'il est véritablement la parole de Dieu, et que Dieu est près de l'accomplir.
And as it respecteth that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice, it is because the thing is firmly resolved on by God, and God hasteneth to bring it to pass.
33 Maintenant donc, choisis un homme intelligent et sage, et mets-le à la tête de l'Égypte.
Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 Que le Pharaon agisse: qu'il institue des chefs de canton en la contrée, et que ces chefs envoient tous les produits de l'Égypte, pendant les sept années d'abondance.
Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part [of the produce] of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty.
35 Qu'ainsi l'on réunisse toutes les denrées de ces bonnes années qui vont venir, que l'on amoncelle tout le blé sous la main du Pharaon et que des vivres soient gardés dans les villes.
And let them gather up all the food of those good years that are coming, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, as food in the cities, and keep the same.
36 Ces vivres conservés seront pour l'Égypte, pendant les sept années de famine qui viendront en la contrée, et elle ne sera pas consumée par le fléau.
And that food shall be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land be not cut off through the famine.
37 Ce discours fut agréable au Pharaon et à tous ses serviteurs.
And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 Et le Pharaon dit à tous ses serviteurs: où pourrons-nous trouver un pareil homme en qui soit l'esprit de Dieu?
And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom the spirit of God is?
39 Il dit aussi à Joseph: Puisque Dieu t'a fait voir toutes ces choses, il n'y a pas d'homme plus sage et plus intelligent que toi.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Inasmuch as God hath caused thee to know all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou:
40 Tu seras à la tête de ma maison, mon peuple entier obéira à ta parole, je ne serai au-dessus de toi que par le trône.
Thou shalt be over my house, and according to thy word shall all my people be ruled, only in regard to the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 Et le Pharaon dit à Joseph: Je te mets aujourd'hui à la tête de toute la terre d'Égypte.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 Puis, le Pharaon ôtant l'anneau de sa main, le mit à la main de Joseph; il le revêtit d' une robe du lin le plus fin, et lui passa autour du cou un collier d'or.
And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a golden chain about his neck;
43 Il le fit monter sur un char, le second de ses chars, et il fit proclamer par un héraut qu'il l'avait mis à la tête de l'Égypte.
And he caused him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bend the knee: and he placed him [thus] over all the land of Egypt.
44 Ensuite, il dit à Joseph: Je suis le Pharaon, nul sans ta volonté ne lèvera la main dans la terre d'Égypte.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh; but without thee shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 Le Pharaon changea le nom de Joseph en celui de Psonthomphanech, et il lui donna pour femme Aseneth, fille de Pétéphrès, prêtre d'Héliopolis.
And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-pa'neach; and he gave him Assenath the daughter of Poti-phera', the priest of On, for wife. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46 Joseph avait trente ans, lorsqu'il comparut devant le roi d'Égypte; il s'éloigna du Pharaon, et il parcourut tout le royaume.
And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh the king of Egypt; and Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47 Pendant les sept années d'abondance la terre fut couverte de gerbes.
And the earth brought forth in the seven years of plenty by handfuls.
48 Il recueillit alors tous les vivres de ces sept années, pendant lesquelles il y eut abondance en la terre d'Égypte, et il les plaça dans les villes: en chaque ville, les vivres des champs d'alentour.
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field of the city, which was round about it, laid he up in the same.
49 Joseph amoncela du blé, innombrable comme le sable de la mer.
And Joseph heaped up corn as the sand of the sea, very much; until he left off numbering, for it was without number.
50 Cependant, avant que vinssent les sept années de famine, deux fils naquirent de Joseph et d'Aseneth, fille de Pétephréès, prêtre d'Héliopolis.
And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Assenath the daughter of Poti-phera' the priest of On, bore unto him.
51 Joseph donna au premier-né le nom de Manassé, parce que, dit-il, Dieu m'a fait oublier toutes mes peines et toutes celles de mon père.
And Joseph called the name of the first-born Menasseh: For God [said he] hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
52 Il appela le second Ephraïm, parce que dit-il, Dieu m'a grandi dans mon humiliation.
And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God [said he] hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53 Et les sept années d'abondance qui furent en la terre d'Égypte s'écoulèrent.
And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
54 Et les sept années de famine commencèrent à venir, comme avait dit Joseph. Et la famine régnait sur toute la terre, mais il y avait du pain dans toute l'Égypte.
And the seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all the countries, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55 Et toute l'Égypte eut faim; le peuple cria devant le Pharaon pour avoir du pain. Et le Pharaon dit à tous les Égyptiens: Allez à Joseph, et faites ce qu'il vous dira.
And when all the land of Egypt also felt hunger, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56 La famine était sur la face de toute la terre; Joseph ouvrit donc tous les magasins de blé, et il en vendit à tous les Égyptiens.
And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the store-houses, wherein corn was, and sold unto the Egyptians; for the famine grew strong in the land of Egypt.
57 De tous les pays on venait en Égypte acheter à Joseph; car la famine régnait sur toute la terre.
And all the countries came into Egypt to buy corn of Joseph; because the famine was sore in all the countries.
