Genèse 40
1 À la suite de ces événements, il arriva que le grand échanson du roi d'Égypte et le grand panetier se rendirent coupables envers leur seigneur le roi d'Égypte.
And after these things, the butler of the King of Egypt and his baker offended their lorde the King of Egypt.
2 Et le Pharaoh fut transporté de colère contre ses deux eunuques: le grand échanson et le grand panetier,
And Pharaoh was angrie against his two officers, against the chiefe butler, and against the chiefe baker.
3 Il les fit jeter en prison, au lieu même où avait été conduit Joseph.
Therefore he put them in ward in his chiefe stewardes house, in the prison and place where Ioseph was bound.
4 Et le geôlier les confia à Joseph qui prit soin d'eux; ils furent bien des jours dans la prison.
And the chiefe steward gaue Ioseph charge ouer them, and he serued them: and they continued a season in warde.
5 Après quoi, tous les deux en la même nuit eurent un songe; cette vision en songe du grand échanson et du grand panetier du roi d'Égypte dans la prison était telle qu'on va dire:
And they both dreamed a dreame, eyther of them his dreame in one night, eche one according to the interpretation of his dreame, both the butler and the baker of the King of Egypt, which were bounde in the prison.
6 Joseph étant entré près d'eux le matin, les vit tout troublés.
And when Ioseph came in vnto them in the morning, and looked vpon them, beholde, they were sad.
7 Il interrogea les eunuques du Pharaon qui étaient en prison avec lui, au pouvoir de son maître, disant: Pourquoi vos visages sont-ils attristés aujourd'hui?
And he asked Pharaohs officers, that were with him in his masters warde, saying, Wherefore looke ye so sadly to day?
8 Ils répondirent: Nous avons eu chacun un songe, et il n'y a personne ici pour les interpréter. Joseph leur dit: N'est-ce pas à Dieu qu'il appartient de les expliquer? Racontez-les-moi donc.
Who answered him, We haue dreamed, eche one a dreame, and there is none to interprete the same. Then Ioseph saide vnto them, Are not interpretations of God? tell them me nowe.
9 Le grand échanson raconta donc à Joseph le songe qu'il avait eu, et il dit: Pendant mon sommeil, une vigne était devant moi,
So the chiefe butler tolde his dreame to Ioseph, and said vnto him, In my dreame, behold, a vine was before me,
10 Elle avait trois souches, et elle était en fleur, projetant des bourgeons, et même des grappes de raisin mûr.
And in the vine were three branches, and as it budded, her flowre came foorth: and the clusters of grapes waxed ripe.
11 Comme j'avais en ma main la coupe du Pharaon, je pris une grappe et je la pressai dans la coupe que je remis en la main du Pharaon.
And I had Pharaohs cup in mine hande, and I tooke the grapes, and wrung the into Pharaohs cup, and I gaue the cup into Pharaohs hand.
12 Voici, lui dit Joseph, l'interprétation de ton songe: Les trois souches sont trois jours;
Then Ioseph sayde vnto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three braunches are three dayes.
13 Encore trois jours, et le Pharaon se souviendra de tes services; il te rétablira dans ta charge de grand échanson, et tu mettras la coupe en la main du Pharaon, comme autrefois quand tu lui versais à boire.
Within three dayes shall Pharaoh lift vp thine head, and restore thee vnto thine office, and thou shalt giue Pharaohs cup into his hand after the olde maner, when thou wast his butler.
14 Mais souviens-toi de moi, au nom de toi-même, lorsque tu seras heureux; use envers moi de miséricorde, parle en ma faveur au Pharaon, afin qu'il me tire de cette forteresse:
But haue me in remembrance with thee, when thou art in good case, and shew mercie, I pray thee, vnto me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring me out of this house.
15 Car c'est par un larcin que j'ai été enlevé de la terre des Hébreux, puis, en ce pays j'ai été jeté en prison, sans avoir rien fait.
For I was stollen away by theft out of the land of the Ebrewes, and here also haue I done nothing, wherefore they should put mee in the dungeon.
16 Le grand panetier, voyant qu'il avait si bien interprété, dit à son tour à Joseph: Moi aussi j'ai eu un songe: il me semblait porter sur ma tête trois corbeilles de grain.
And when the chiefe baker sawe that the interpretation was good, hee saide vnto Ioseph, Also mee thought in my dreame that I had three white baskets on mine head.
17 La corbeille la plus élevée contenait toutes les espèces de gâteaux dont mange le Pharaon; et les oiseaux du ciel aussi mangeaient dans la corbeille la plus haute qui était sur ma tête.
And in the vppermost basket there was of all maner baken meates for Pharaoh: and the birdes did eate them out of the basket vpon mine head.
18 Et Joseph, répondant, lui dit: Voici ton interprétation: les trois corbeilles sont trois jours;
Then Ioseph answered, and saide, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three dayes:
19 Encore trois jours, et le Pharaon séparera ta tête de ton corps; il te suspendra à une croix, et les oiseaux du ciel mangeront de tes chairs.
Within three dayes shall Pharaoh take thine head from thee, and shall hang thee on a tree, and the birdes shall eate thy flesh from off thee.
20 Le troisième jour vint, jour de la naissance du Pharaon, et il fit un festin à tous ses serviteurs. Mais, du milieu d'eux, il se souvint de l'office du grand échanson et de l'office du grand panetier.
And so the third day, which was Pharaohs birthday, hee made a feast vnto all his seruants: and hee lifted vp the head of the chiefe butler, and the head of the chiefe baker among his seruants.
21 Il rétablit le grand échanson en son office, et celui-ci mit la coupe dans les mains du Pharaon.
And he restored the chiefe butler vnto his butlershippe, who gaue the cup into Pharaohs hande,
22 Quant au grand panetier, il fut suspendu à une croix, selon ce que leur avait dit Joseph.
But he hanged the chiefe baker, as Ioseph had interpreted vnto them.
23 Cependant, le grand échanson ne se souvint point de Joseph, et le laissa en oubli.
Yet the chiefe butler did not remember Ioseph, but forgate him.
