Genèse 28
1 Isaac ayant appelé Jacob, le bénit et lui donna ses ordres, disant: Tu ne prendras point femme parmi les filles des Chananéens.
Then Izhak called Iaakob and blessed him, and charged him, and sayde vnto him, Take not a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2 Lève-toi, va en Mésopotamie, dans la maison de Bathuel, père de ta mère, et ramènes-en pour toi une femme des filles de Laban, frère de Rébécca;
Arise, get thee to Padan Aram to the house of Bethuel thy mothers father, and thence take thee a wife of the daughters of Laban thy mothers brother.
3 Et mon Dieu te bénira, te grandira, te multipliera; tu seras père d'une foule de nations.
And God all sufficient blesse thee, and make thee to encrease, and multiplie thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people,
4 Qu'il te donne la bénédiction d'Abraham pour toi et ta postérité, afin que tu hérites de la terre où tu n'es que passager, et que Dieu a donnée à Abraham.
And giue thee the blessing of Abraham, euen to thee and to thy seede with thee, that thou mayest inherite the lande (wherein thou art a stranger, ) which God gaue vnto Abraham.
5 Isaac congédia ainsi Jacob, qui alla en Mésopotamie chez Laban, fils de Bathuel le Syrien, et frère de Rébécca, mère de Jacob et d'Esaü.
Thus Izhak sent forth Iaakob, and he went to Padan Aram vnto Laban sonne of Bethuel the Aramite, brother to Rebekah, Iaakobs and Esaus mother.
6 Or, Esaü vit qu'Isaac avait béni Jacob, qu'il l'avait envoyé en Mésopotamie avec sa bénédiction, afin qu'il y prît femme, et qu'il lui avait donné ses ordres, disant: Tu ne prendras point femme parmi les filles des Chananéens.
When Esau sawe that Izhak had blessed Iaakob, and sent him to Padan Aram, to set him a wife thence, and giuen him a charge when he blessed him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,
7 Et que Jacob obéissant à son père et à sa mère, était parti pour la Mésopotamie syrienne.
And that Iaakob had obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan Aram:
8 Esaü, voyant donc que les filles de Chanaan étaient méchantes aux yeux de son père Isaac,
Also Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan displeased Izhak his father,
9 s'en alla auprès d'Ismaël et prit pour femme, outre ses femmes, Maeleth, fille d'Ismaël, sœur de Nabeoth.
Then went Esau to Ishmael, and tooke vnto the wiues, which he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abrahams sonne, the sister of Nabaioth, to be his wife.
10 Cependant Jacob, étant parti du puits du Serment, prit la route de Haran.
Now Iaakob departed from Beer-sheba, and went to Haran,
11 Et il arriva en un endroit où il se reposa, car le soleil était couché; il prit des pierres, les plaça du côté de sa tête, et il se coucha en cet endroit.
And he came vnto a certaine place, and taried there al night, because the sunne was downe, and tooke of the stones of the place, and layde vnder his head and slept in the same place.
12 S'étant endormi, il vit une échelle plantée en terre dont l'extrémité atteignait le ciel, et sur cette échelle les anges de Dieu montaient et descendaient.
Then he dreamed, and behold, there stoode a ladder vpon the earth, and the top of it reached vp to heauen: and loe, the Angels of God went vp and downe by it.
13 Et au-dessus de l'échelle se tenait le Seigneur, qui lui dit: Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham et le Dieu d'Isaac: n'aie point de crainte: la terre sur laquelle tu dors, je la donnerai à toi et à ta race.
And behold, the Lord stoode aboue it, and sayd, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Izhak: the land, vpon the which thou sleepest, wil I giue thee and thy seede.
14 Ta postérité sera comme le sable de la terre; elle s'étendra à l'occident, au midi, au nord et à l'orient, et en toi et en ta race seront bénies toutes les tribus de la terre.
And thy seede shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the West, and to the East, and to the North, and to the South, and in thee and in thy seede shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 Je suis avec toi pour te garder en toute voie où tu marcheras; je te ramènerai en cette terre, et je ne t'abandonnerai point que je n'aie accompli les choses que je t'ai dites.
And lo, I am with thee, and wil keepe thee whithersoeuer thou goest, and will bring thee againe into this lande: for I will not forsake thee vntill I haue performed that, that I haue promised thee.
16 Jacob, en s'éveillant, s'écria: Le Seigneur est en ce lieu, et je ne le savais pas!
Then Iaakob awoke out of his sleepe, and sayde, Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware.
17 Et il eut crainte, et il dit: Que ce lieu est redoutable! Il n'est rien moins que la maison du Seigneur, et la porte même du ciel.
And he was afraid, and said, How fearefull is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heauen.
18 Jacob se, leva de grand matin, prit la pierre qu'il avait mise sous sa tête et la posa comme une colonne; puis sur son sommet il répandit de l'huile.
Then Iaakob rose vp early in the morning, and tooke the stone that hee had layde vnder his head, and set it vp as a pillar, and powred oyle vpon the top of it.
19 Il donna à ce lieu le nom de maison du Seigneur (Béthel), car Ulam Luz était auparavant le nom qu'il portait,
And he called ye name of that place Bethel: notwithstanding the name of the citie was at the first called Luz.
20 Et il fit un vœu, disant: Si le Seigneur Dieu est avec moi, s'il me garde en la voie où je marche, s'il me donne du pain à manger et des vêtements pour m'envelopper,
Then Iaakob vowed a vowe, saying, If God will be with me, and will keepe me in this iourney which I go, and wil giue me bread to eate, and clothes to put on:
21 S'il me ramène sain et sauf en la maison de mon père, le Seigneur sera mon Dieu.
So that I come againe vnto my fathers house in safetie, then shall the Lord be my God.
22 Et cette pierre que j'ai posée comme une colonne sera pour moi la maison de Dieu; et de toutes les choses que vous me donnerez, Seigneur, je séparerai le dixième pour vous.
And this stone, which I haue set vp as a pillar, shall be Gods house: and of all that thou shalt giue me, wil I giue the tenth vnto thee.
