Genèse 13
1 Abram revint donc de l'Égypte avec sa femme, et tout ce qui lui appartenait; et Lot était avec lui dans le désert.
And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2 Abram était fort riche en bestiaux, en argent et en or.
And he was very rich in possession of gold and silver.
3 Il revint au lieu d'où il était venu, dans le désert, vers Béthel, là où ses tentes avaient d'abord été, entre Béthel et Angdi,
And he returned by the way that he came, from the south to Bethel, to the place where before he had pitched his tent between Bethel and Hai:
4 Au lieu même de l'autel qu'il y avait érigé au commencement, et il y invoqua le nom du Seigneur.
In the place of the altar which he had made before; and there he called upon the name of the Lord.
5 Lot, qui accompagnait Abram, avait aussi des brebis, et des bœufs, et des tentes.
But Lot also, who was with Abram, had flocks of sheep, and herds of beasts, and tents.
6 Or, cette terre ne pouvait suffire à leur commun séjour, car leurs richesses étaient nombreuses; cette terre ne pouvait donc suffire à leur séjour commun.
Neither was the land able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, and they could not dwell together.
7 Aussi une rixe survint-elle entre les pâtres des troupeaux d'Abram et les pâtres des troupeaux de Lot. Or, les Chananéens et les Phéréséens habitaient alors cette terre.
Whereupon also there arose a strife between the herdsmen of Abram and of Lot. And at that time the Chanaanite and the Pherezite dwelled in that country.
8 Abram dit à Lot: Qu'il n'y ait point de rixe entre moi et toi, entre mes pâtres et tes pâtres, car nous sommes frères.
Abram therefore said to Lot: Let there be no quarrel, I beseech thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen: for we are brethren.
9 N'as-tu pas là devant toi toute la terre? Sépare-toi de moi; si tu vas à gauche, j'irai à droite; si tu vas à droite, j'irai à gauche.
Behold the whole land is before thee: depart from me I pray thee: if thou wilt go to the left hand, I will take the right: if thou choose the right hand, I will pass to the left.
10 Et Lot, ayant levé les yeux, vit toute la rive du Jourdain tout arrosée, comme elle était avant que Dieu eût bouleversé Sodome et Gomorrhe, semblable au paradis de Dieu, ou à la terre d'Égypte, jusqu'aux confins de Zogora.
And Lot, lifting up his eyes, saw all the country about the Jordan, which was watered throughout, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha, as the paradise of the Lord, and like Egypt as one comes to Segor.
11 Lot choisit pour lui toute la rive du Jourdain, et il partit, s'éloignant de l'orient; chacun d'eux se sépara de son frère.
And Lot chose to himself the country about the Jordan, and he departed from the east: and they were separated one brother from the other.
12 Abram demeura en la terre de Chanaan, et Lot habita la ville des riverains, et il dressa ses tentes à Sodome.
Abram dwelt in the land of Chanaan; and Lot abode in the towns that were about the Jordan, and dwelt in Sodom.
13 Or, les hommes de Sodome étaient très méchants et grands pécheurs devant Dieu.
And the men of Sodom were very wicked, and sinners before the face of the Lord, beyond measure.
14 Après que Lot se fut séparé d'Abram, Dieu dit à celui-ci: Regarde de tes yeux, et vois, du lieu où tu es le nord et le midi, l'orient et l'occident,
And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him: Lift up thy eyes, and look from the place wherein thou now art, to the north and to the south, to the east and to the west.
15 Parce que la terre que tu vois, je te la donnerai pour toi et ta race à toujours.
All the land which thou seest, I will give to thee, and to thy seed for ever.
16 Je multiplierai ta race comme le sable de la terre; si quelqu'un peut compter le sable de la terre, il pourra aussi compter ta postérité.
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: if any man be able to number the dust of the earth, he shall be able to number thy seed also.
17 Pars, traverse cette contrée dans sa longueur et dans sa largeur, parce que je la donnerai à toi et à ta race pour toujours.
Arise and walk through the land in the length, and in the breadth thereof: for I will give it to thee.
18 Et, ayant levé ses tentes, Abram vint demeurer vers le chêne de Membré qui était en Hébron; et il bâtit en ce lieu un autel au Seigneur.
So Abram removing his tent came and dwelt by the vale of Mambre, which is in Hebron: and he built there an altar to the Lord.
