Esdras 3
1 Et le septième mois arriva, et les fils d'Israël étaient dans leurs villes, et le peuple se rassembla comme un seul homme à Jérusalem.
But, when the seventh month was come, and the sons of Israel were in cities, then did the people gather themselves together as one man, unto Jerusalem.
2 Et Josué, fils de Josédec, et les prêtres, ses frères, et Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, et ses frères, s'étant mis en avant, bâtirent l'autel du Seigneur leur Dieu pour y offrir des holocaustes, comme il est écrit en la loi de Moise, homme de Dieu.
Then arose—Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his brethren, and built the altar of the God of Israel, —to offer thereon ascending-sacrifices, as it was written in the law of Moses, the man of God.
3 Ils le relevèrent d'abord où il était autrefois, car ils avaient crainte des peuples d'alentour; ils rétablirent l'holocauste du Seigneur, le matin et le soir.
So they settled the altar upon its stands, for, dread, was upon them, because of the peoples of the countries, —therefore caused they to go up thereon, ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, ascending-sacrifices for the morning and for the evening.
4 Et ils célébrèrent la fête des tabernacles, ainsi qu'il est écrit, faisant les holocaustes quotidiens, selon le nombre déterminé jour par jour.
And they kept the festival of booths, as it was written, —and the ascending-offering of each day upon its own day, by number, according to regulation, the matter of a day upon its day;
5 Puis, après la fête, ils offrirent l'holocauste perpétuel, les sacrifices des nouvelles lunes, et de toutes les fêtes consacrées au Seigneur, et ceux que l'on offrait volontairement.
and, afterwards, the continual ascending-sacrifice, and, on the new moons, and on all the appointed seasons of Yahweh, the hallowed things, —also for every one that volunteered a voluntary offering unto Yahweh.
6 Le premier jour du septième mois, ils commencèrent à offrir des holocaustes au Seigneur, et les fondations du temple n'étaient pas encore jetées.
From the first day of the seventh month, began they to offer up ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, —but, the temple of Yahweh, had not had its foundation laid.
7 Et ils donnèrent de l'argent aux tailleurs de pierres, aux charpentiers; quant aux Sidoniens et aux Tyriens qui leur amenèrent jusqu'au port de Joppé des cèdres du Liban, selon la permission que Cyrus, roi des Perses, leur avait accordée, ils leur donnèrent le manger et le boire, et de l'huile.
And they gave silver, unto the masons and carpenters, —and food and drink and oil, unto them of Zidon and unto them of Tyre, to bring in cedar-trees out of the Lebanon, unto the sea of Joppa, according to the grant of Cyrus king of Persia unto them.
8 Et la seconde année de leur retour dans le temple du Seigneur à Jérusalem, le second mois, Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel; Josué, fils de Josedec, ce qui restait de leurs frères les prêtres et les lévites, tous ceux qui étaient sortis de captivité, commencèrent les travaux, et ils chargèrent de la surveillance des ouvriers les lévites de vingt ans et au-dessus.
Now, in the second year of their coming in unto the house of God, to Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak and the rest of their brethren—the priests and the Levites, and all that were come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, and stationed the Levites, of twenty years old and upwards, to preside over the work of the house of Yahweh.
9 Josué, ses fils et ses frères; Cadmiel, de la maison de Juda, et ses fils, prirent la direction des travaux qui se faisaient dans le temple, secondés par les lévites, fils d'Henadad, et leurs fils et leurs frères.
So they took their station—even Jeshua, his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, sons of Judah, as one man to preside over the doer of the work in the house of God, the sons of Henadad, their sons and their brethren, the Levites.
10 Ils jetèrent les fondations pour y asseoir le temple du Seigneur; cependant, les prêtres, revêtus de leurs robes, sonnèrent de la trompette, et les lévites, fils d'Asaph, au bruit des cymbales, chantaient les louanges du Seigneur, comme l'avait prescrit David.
And, when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of Yahweh, then the priests, enrobed, took their stand with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to offer praise unto Yahweh, after the instructions of David king of Israel.
11 Ils louaient le Seigneur et lui rendaient grâces tour à tour, parce qu'il est bon, parce que sa miséricorde envers Israël doit durer toujours. Et dans sa joie, tout le peuple, à grands cris, louait le Seigneur, à cause de la fondation du temple.
And, when they made responses in offering praise and in giving thanks unto Yahweh—For he is good, for, age-abiding, is his lovingkindness, upon Israel, then, all the people, shouted with a great shout, in offering praise unto Yahweh, over the laying of the foundation of the house of Yahweh.
12 Et un grand nombre de prêtres, de lévites, de chefs de famille, avancés en âge, qui avaient vu le temple dans son premier état, et qui revoyaient de leurs yeux ce temple, élevaient la voix et pleuraient, tandis que la foule, en signe de joie, élevait encore plus haut le chant.
But, many of the priests and the Levites and the ancestral chiefs, who were old men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, were weeping with a loud voice, —many, however, shouting and rejoicing, with voice raised on high;
13 Et nul ne pouvait distinguer les marques d'allégresse de la voix de ceux qui pleuraient, parce que le peuple jetait de grands cris, et que la rumeur en retentissait au loin.
so that the people could not distinguish the noise of the shout of joy, from the noise of the weeping of the people, —for, the people, did shout with a great shout, and, the noise, was heard afar off.
