Ézéchiel 18
1 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
The worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, saying,
2 Fils de l'homme, d'où vient cette parabole qui se dit parmi les enfants d'Israël: Les pères ont mangé du verjus, et les dents des enfants en ont été agacées?
What meane ye that ye speake this prouerbe, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?
3 Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, on ne répètera plus cette parabole en Israël.
As I liue, sayth the Lord God, ye shall vse this prouerbe no more in Israel.
4 Car toutes les âmes sont à moi; les âmes des fils sont à moi, comme l'âme du père. L'âme qui pèche, voilà celle qui mourra.
Beholde, all soules are mine, both the soule of the father, and also the soule of the sonne are mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.
5 L'homme qui sera juste, qui observera les jugements et l'équité,
But if a man be iust, and doe that which is lawfull, and right,
6 Ne mangera pas sur les hauts lieux; il ne lèvera pas les yeux sur les idoles de la maison d'Israël; il ne profanera point la femme de son prochain; il ne s'approchera pas de sa femme dans son impureté.
And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath lyen with a menstruous woman,
7 Il n'opprimera pas âme qui vive; il rendra le gage du débiteur; il ne commettra aucune rapine; il donnera de son pain au pauvre, et il vêtira les nus.
Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his dettour: he that hath spoyled none by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
8 Et il ne placera pas son argent à usure, et il ne prendra pas plus qu'il ne lui est dû, et il détournera la main de l'iniquité, et il rendra un jugement juste entre un homme et son prochain.
And hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,
9 Celui-là aura marché en mes commandements; il aura gardé mes ordonnances pour les mettre en pratique. Celui-là est juste, et il vivra de la vie, dit le Seigneur.
And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iust, he shall surely liue, sayth the Lord God.
10 Et s'il a engendré un fils corrompu qui verse le sang et commette des péchés,
If he beget a sonne, that is a thiefe, or a sheader of blood, if he do any one of these things,
11 Celui-là n'aura pas marché dans la voie de son père; mais il aura mangé sur les hauts lieux, il aura profané la femme de son prochain;
Though he doe not all these things, but either hath eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,
12 Il aura opprimé le pauvre et le mendiant; il aura pris avec violence; il n'aura pas rendu le gage; il aura arrêté ses regards sur les idoles; il aura fait l'iniquité;
Or hath oppressed the poore and needy, or hath spoyled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hath committed abomination,
13 Il aura placé à usure; il se sera fait rendre plus qu'il ne lui était dû; celui-là ne vivra pas de la vie: pour avoir fait toutes ces iniquités, il mourra de mort, et son sang sera sur sa tête.
Or hath giuen forth vpon vsurie, or hath taken increase, shall he liue? he shall not liue: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be vpon him.
14 Et si cet homme a engendré un fils qui ait vu tous les péchés commis par son père, mais qui en ait eu peur et ne les ait pas commis;
But if he beget a sonne, that seeth all his fathers sinnes, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like,
15 Qui ne monte pas sur les hauts lieux; qui n'arrête pas ses regards sur les idoles de la maison d'Israël; qui ne profane point la femme de son prochain;
That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idols of ye house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbours wife,
16 Qui n'opprime pas âme qui vive; qui ne retienne pas de gages; qui ne commette aucune rapine; qui donne de son pain au pauvre et vêtisse les nus;
Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoyled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
17 Qui détourne sa main de l'iniquité, qui ne reçoive ni usure ni plus qu'il ne lui est dû; qui fasse justice; qui marche en mes commandements: il ne mourra pas à cause des iniquités de son père, il vivra de la vie.
Neither hath withdrawen his hand from the afflicted, nor receiued vsurie nor increase, but hath executed my iudgements, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquitie of his father, but he shall surely liue.
18 Et son père, pour avoir opprimé, pour avoir pris avec violence, pour avoir fait le mal devant mon peuple, mourra dans son iniquité.
His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoyled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, loe, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.
19 Et vous direz: Pourquoi le fils n'a-t-il pas porté la peine de l'iniquité du père? Parce que le fils a fait justice et miséricorde, qu'il a gardé mes ordonnances et les a mises en pratique: il vivra de la vie.
Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? because ye sonne hath executed iudgement and iustice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely liue,
20 Et l'âme qui pèche mourra; le fils ne portera pas la peine de l'iniquité du père; le père ne portera pas la peine de l'iniquité du fils. La justice du juste sera sur lui, et l'iniquité de l'injuste sera sur lui.
The same soule that sinneth, shall die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shall the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne, but the righteousnes of the righteous shall be vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shall be vpon him selfe.
21 Et le pécheur, s'il revient de ses dérèglements, garde tous mes commandements, s'il fait justice et miséricorde, vivra de la vie et ne mourra point.
But if the wicked will returne from all his sinnes that he hath committed, and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawfull and right, he shall surely liue, and shall not die.
22 Toutes ses iniquités seront oubliées; il vivra dans son équité et à cause d'elle.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him, but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall liue.
23 Est-ce que je veux la mort du pécheur? dit le Seigneur. Est-ce que je ne veux pas plutôt qu'il se détourne de sa voie mauvaise et qu'il vive?
Haue I any desire that the wicked should die, sayth the Lord God? or shall he not liue, if he returne from his wayes?
24 Si le juste se détourne de sa justice et tombe dans tous les péchés que fait l'homme inique, toutes les œuvres de sa justice seront oubliées; il mourra dans sa chute et dans ses péchés.
But if the righteous turne away from his righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, and doe according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he liue? all his righteousnes that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 Et vous dites: La voie du Seigneur n'est pas droite! Écoutez donc, ô vous tous, maison d'Israël: Est-ce ma voie qui n'est pas droite? Est-ce votre voie qui est droite!
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equall: heare now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
26 Quand le juste se détourne de sa justice, quand il fait un péché, quand il meurt dans le péché qu'il a fait, il meurt en ce péché.
For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnes, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die for the same, he shall euen die for his iniquitie, that he hath done.
27 Et quand l'impie revient de son impiété, et qu'il fait jugement et justice, celui-là sauve son âme.
Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.
28 Il s'est converti de toutes les impiétés qu'il avait faites; il vivra de la vie et ne mourra point.
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that hee hath committed, he shall surely liue and shall not die.
29 Et en la maison d'Israël ils disent: La voie du Seigneur n'est pas droite! Est-ce ma voie qui n'est pas droite, maison d'Israël? N'est-ce pas votre voie qui n'est pas droite?
Yet saith ye house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
30 Je jugerai chacun de vous selon sa voie, maison d'Israël, dit le Seigneur; convertissez-vous, revenez de toutes vos impiétés, et vous ne serez point punis pour cause d'iniquités.
Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, sayth the Lord God: returne therefore and cause others to turne away from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your destruction.
31 Repoussez loin de vous toutes les impiétés que vous avez commises contre moi; faites-vous un nouveau cœur, un esprit nouveau; et pourquoi péririez- vous, maison d'Israël?
Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye haue transgressed, and make you a newe heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 Ce n'est pas moi qui veux la mort de celui qui périt, dit le Seigneur.
For I desire not the death of him that dyeth, sayth the Lord God: cause therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.
