Ézéchiel 17
1 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
2 Fils de l'homme, fais un récit, et dis ma parabole à la maison d'Israël.
Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel,
3 Dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Un grand aigle, aux grandes ailes, à la vaste envergure, aux fortes serres, ayant dirigé son essor vers le Liban, y vint et choisit les meilleures branches d'un cèdre.
and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: A great eagle with great wings, long-pinioned, full of feathers, which was of divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar.
4 Il arracha les pointes des bourgeons et il les transporta en la terre de Chanaan, et il les déposa dans une ville fortifiée.
He cropped off the top of its young shoots, and carried it into a merchants' land; he set it in a city of traders.
5 Et il prit de la graine en terre, et il la sema dans un champ fertilisé par beaucoup d'eau, et il la déposa en un lieu apparent.
And he took of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, he set it as a willow tree.
6 Et elle germa, et elle devint une vigne basse et rampante, de sorte que les bourgeons apparaissaient au-dessus de la semence, tandis que les racines étaient en terre. Et elle devint une vigne, et elle provigna, et elle étendit en haut ses sarments.
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, so that its branches should turn toward him, and the roots thereof be under him; and it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
7 Et il vint un autre grand aigle, aux grandes ailes, aux serres nombreuses; et voilà que la vigne se plia autour de lui, et ses racines étaient près de lui, et elle lui envoya ses rameaux pour lui donner à boire de la sève de son plant.
And there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers; and behold, from the beds of her plantation, this vine did bend her roots unto him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it.
8 Elle-même engraissa dans une bonne terre, sur des eaux abondantes, au point de pousser des jets, de porter des fruits, et d'être une grande vigne.
It was planted in a good field by many waters, that it might bring forth branches and bear fruit, that it might be a noble vine.
9 Et à cause de cela, dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Prospèrera-t-elle? Ses tendres racines, son fruit ne pourriront-ils pas? Ses bourgeons ne se dessècheront-ils pas? Ne sera-t-elle pas déracinée par un bras puissant et par un peuple nombreux?
Say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Shall it prosper? Shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it may wither? All its fresh sprouting leaves shall wither, even without a great arm and many people to pluck it up by its roots.
10 Et voilà qu'elle a engraissé; mais pourra-t-elle s'élever? Ne sera-t- elle pas flétrie aussitôt que le vent brûlant la touchera? Oui, elle sera flétrie, avec la sève de ses bourgeons.
And behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither when the east wind toucheth it? It shall wither in the beds where it grew.
11 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
12 Fils de l'homme, dis à la maison qui m'irrite: Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie? Dis encore: Quand le roi de Babylone viendra contre Jérusalem, il prendra son roi et ses princes, et il les emmènera avec lui à Babylone.
Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things are? Say, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king and its princes, and led them with him to Babylon.
13 Et il choisira un homme de famille royale, et il fera alliance avec lui, et il le liera par des serments; et il emmènera les princes de la terre,
And he took of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and brought him under an oath, and he took away the mighty of the land;
14 Pour que le royaume soit affaibli, que le roi ne puisse se relever, qu'il garde son alliance et la maintienne.
that the kingdom might be abased, that it might not lift itself up, that it might keep his covenant in order to stand.
15 Mais si le roi se révolte contre lui, s'il envoie des émissaires en Égypte pour en obtenir des chevaux et une nombreuse armée, réussira-t-il, sera- t-il sauvé en agissant comme un ennemi? Sera-t-il sauvé en violant l'alliance?
But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?
16 Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur; il sera emmené où réside le roi qui l'a mis sur le trône, parce qu'il a méprisé le serment prêté en mon nom, et violé l'alliance où j'ai été pris à témoin, et il mourra au milieu de Babylone.
[As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, verily in the place of the king that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him, in the midst of Babylon, shall he die.
17 Et le Pharaon ne fera pas la guerre aux Assyriens avec une grande multitude et une forte armée, ni avec des retranchements et des balistes pour exterminer les âmes.
Neither shall Pharaoh with a mighty army and a great assemblage do anything for him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons.
18 Et le roi de Jérusalem a méprisé son serment, et il a violé l'alliance, quand j'avais engagé sa main, et il a fait toutes ces choses pour sa sûreté, mais il ne sera pas sauvé.
He despised the oath, and broke the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, yet hath he done all these things: he shall not escape.
19 À cause de cela, dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Par ma vie, il a méprisé un serment prêté en mon nom, il a violé l'alliance où j'ai été pris à témoin, et je ferai retomber son crime sur sa tête.
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: [As] I live, verily, mine oath which he hath despised, and my covenant which he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his head.
20 Et je jetterai sur lui un filet, et il sera pris au piège.
And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare; and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his unfaithfulness in which he hath been unfaithful against me.
21 Dans toutes les batailles, ses hommes périront par le glaive, et je disperserai leurs restes à tous les vents, et vous saurez que c'est moi, le Seigneur, qui ai parlé.
And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward every wind; and ye shall know that I Jehovah have spoken.
22 Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur: C'est moi qui prendrai sur la cime d'un cèdre ses plus belles branches; j'en retirerai la moelle, et je la planterai sur une haute montagne.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also take of the highest branch of the lofty cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of its young shoots a tender one, and I will plant it upon a high and eminent mountain:
23 Je la suspendrai sur la haute montagne d'Israël, et je la planterai; elle produira un rejeton, elle portera son fruit et deviendra un grand cèdre. Et chaque oiseau s'arrêtera sous ses branches, et tout ce qui vole se reposera sous son ombre, et ses rameaux seront pleins de force.
upon the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth branches, and bear fruit, and become a noble cedar; and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
24 Et tous les arbres des champs sauront que je suis le Seigneur, qui abaisse les grands arbres et élève les petits; qui dessèche l'arbre vert et fait reverdir l'arbre desséché. C'est moi, le Seigneur, qui ai parlé, et j'exécuterai.
And all the trees of the field shall know that I Jehovah have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and made the dry tree to flourish: I Jehovah have spoken, and will do [it].
