Ézéchiel 14
1 Et quelques-uns des anciens du peuple d'Israël vinrent me trouver, et ils s'assirent devant moi.
One day some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me.
2 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
Then Yahweh gave me this message:
3 Fils de l'homme, ces hommes ont conçu leurs pensées en leurs cœurs, et ils ont mis devant leur visage la punition de leurs iniquités: que dois-je leur répondre?
“You human, these men want to [IDM] worship idols, and they are allowing idols to induce them to sin [IDM]. So I will certainly [RHQ] answer them if they ask me for advice.
4 Parle et dis-leur: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tout homme, un homme d'Israël, qui aura conçu des pensées en son cœur et qui aura mis devant son visage la punition de son iniquité, et qui viendra devant le prophète, moi le Seigneur je lui répondrai selon les engagements de sa pensée.
So say this to them: ‘This is what Yahweh the Lord says: When any Israeli person wants to worship idols which will induce him to sin, and he goes to a [to get advice], I, Yahweh, will give him the answer that he deserves to receive because he worship idols.
5 Car il désire tromper la maison d'Israël, pour qu'elle se laisse entraîner par ses convoitises et qu'elle éloigne son cœur de moi.
[I will do that] in order that the Israeli people, who have abandoned me in order to worship their idols, will sincerely [IDM] worship me again.’
6 À cause de cela, dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Convertissez-vous et détournez-vous de vos mauvaises œuvres et de toutes vos iniquités, et détournez-en vos visages.
Therefore, say to the Israeli people, ‘This is what Yahweh the Lord says: (Repent/Stop sinning)! Stop worshiping your idols, and stop all your [other] detestable behavior!’
7 Car tout homme, un homme de la maison d'Israël, et tout étranger prosélyte en Israël, qui se sera éloigné de moi et aura conçu des pensées en son cœur et aura mis devant son visage la punition de son iniquité, et qui viendra ensuite au prophète pour le questionner sur moi, moi le Seigneur, je lui répondrai selon les engagements où il est lui-même.
When any of [you] Israeli people or any foreigner living among you turns away from me and starts worshiping idols [IDM] that induce him to sin, and then goes to a prophet to find out what I want him to do, I myself will answer him.
8 Et je tournerai mon visage contre cet homme, et je le livrerai à la solitude et à l'extermination, et je l'effacerai du milieu de mon peuple, et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur.
I will show that I detest him, and [what happens to] him to be a warning [to others], and cause him to be someone whom people despise. I will cause him to no longer be allowed to associate with my people. Then you will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].
9 Et si un prophète s'est égaré, et s'il a parlé, c'est moi le Seigneur qui ai égaré ce prophète; et j'étendrai la main sur lui, et je l'exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple d'Israël.
And if a prophet is deceived and gives a false prophecy, [even though] I [allowed him to] give that message, I will get rid of him and remove him from among my Israeli people.
10 Et ils porteront la peine de leur iniquité, selon l'iniquité de celui qui aura interrogé, laquelle sera punie de la même manière que l'iniquité du prophète;
Both the prophet and the one who asks him for advice will be guilty, [and I will punish both of them].
11 Afin que la maison d'Israël ne s'égare plus en s'éloignant de moi, qu'elle ne se souille plus par ses péchés; de sorte qu'elle soit mon peuple, et que je sois son Dieu, dit le Seigneur.
Then you Israeli people will no longer abandon me, and you will no longer become unacceptable to me because of your sins. You will be my people, and I will be your God. [That is what I], Yahweh the Lord, say.”
12 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
Yahweh gave me another message. [He said],
13 Fils de l'homme, la terre qui aura péché contre moi en ses transgressions, j'étendrai la main sur elle; je briserai la force du pain, je lui enverrai la famine, et je détruirai les hommes et son bétail.
“You human, [the people of some] country sin against me by abandoning me, and I punish [IDM] them by cutting off their food supply and by sending a famine, with the result that people and animals die,
14 Et si, au milieu d'elle, se trouvent trois hommes comme Noé, Daniel et Job, ils seront sauvés à cause de leur justice, dit le Seigneur.
even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, they would save only themselves because of their being righteous. [That is what I], Yahweh the Lord, declare.
15 Et si j'amène les bêtes farouches sur cette terre, et si je la punis, et si elle est désolée, et que nul ne la traverse en face des bêtes farouches;
Or, if I send wild animals throughout the country, and they attack and [many of] [HYP] the people, with the result that travel in that country becomes very dangerous and no one travels through that country,
16 Si ces trois hommes s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ni leurs fils ni leurs filles ne seront sauvés; eux seuls seront sauvés, mais la terre sera détruite.
[as surely] as I am alive, even if those three men were in that country, they could not save [even their own] sons or [from being killed]. Only those [three] would (be saved/remain alive), and the country would become desolate. [That is what I], Yahweh the Lord, declare.
17 Ou bien encore, si je promène le glaive sur cette terre, et si je dis: Que le glaive sillonne toute cette terre, et j'en ôterai les hommes et le bétail;
Or, if I bring enemy soldiers [MTY] to attack that country, and they kill [MTY] people and animals throughout that country with their swords,
18 Et si ces trois hommes s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ils ne sauveront ni leurs fils ni leurs filles; eux seuls seront sauvés.
as surely as I am alive, even if those three men were in that country, they would not be able to save even their own sons or [from being killed]. They would save only themselves. That is what I, Yahweh the Lord, declare.
19 Ou bien encore, si j'envoie la peste en cette terre, et si je verse sur elle ma colère, avec le sang, pour détruire ses hommes et son bétail,
Or, if I send a plague into that land and cause the people and the animals to [from the plague] because I am very angry with those people,
20 Et si Noé, Daniel et Jacob s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ni leurs fils ni leurs filles n'échapperont; eux seuls, à cause de leur justice, auront sauvé leurs âmes.
[as surely] as I am alive, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in that country, they would not [be able to] save even their sons and daughters. They would save only themselves because of their being righteous. [That is what I], Yahweh the Lord, declare.
21 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Si j'envoie contre Jérusalem les quatre fléaux: le glaive, la famine, les bêtes farouches et la peste, pour y détruire les hommes et le bétail;
So [now] this is what [I, ], Yahweh the Lord, say: I will cause four things to happen to [the people of] Jerusalem to punish them very severely. [Some] people and animals will be killed by swords, [some will die from] famines, [others will be attacked and killed by] wild animals, and [others will die in] plagues.
22 Voilà qu'il restera quelques hommes; et ceux-là seront sauvés; et ils emmèneront de la ville leurs fils et leurs filles; puis voilà qu'ils viendront à vous, et vous verrez leurs voies et leurs pensées; et le repentir vous pénètrera, à cause des maux que j'aurai fait tomber sur Jérusalem, à cause de toutes les afflictions que je lui aurai envoyées.
But some [of your people] will remain alive, [both adults] and children. They will come to you, [Ezekiel, in Babylon]. And when you see [disgusting] behavior and actions, you will realize that I had good reasons for causing [the people of] Jerusalem to experience those many great disasters [DOU] that I have sent to them.
23 Et ils vous consoleront, parce que vous verrez leurs voies et leurs pensées; et vous reconnaîtrez que ce n'est point à tort que j'ai fait tout ce que j'ai fait contre elle, dit le Seigneur.
When you see those things that they do, you will know that there were very good reasons [LIT] for me to do everything that I caused to happen to them. [That is what I], Yahweh the Lord, declare.”
