Exode 34

1 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse: Taille-toi deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, et monte près de moi sur la montage; je graverai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières, que tu as brisées.

And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew thyself two tables of stone like unto the first; and I will write upon these tables the words which were on the first tables, which thou didst break.

2 Sois prêt dès l'aurore, et viens sur le mont Sina, tu te tiendras là auprès de moi, sur la cime de la montagne.

And be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me on the top of the mount.

3 Que personne ne monte avec toi et ne se montre sur aucun lieu de la montagne, que ni bœufs ni brebis ne paissent auprès d'elle.

And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks or herds feed near this mount.

4 Et Moïse tailla deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, et, s'étant levé de grand matin, il alla, comme lui avait dit le Seigneur, sur le mont Sina, tenant les deux tables de pierre.

And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him; and he took in his hand the two tables of stone.

5 Le Seigneur descendit alors en une nuée; Moïse s'approcha de lui, et il invoqua le nom du Seigneur.

And the Lord descended in a cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed, by name, the Lord.

6 Et le Seigneur passa devant sa face, et Moïse l'invoqua, disant: Seigneur Dieu, plein de clémence, patient, abondant en miséricorde, véritable,

And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord is the immutable, eternal Being, the omnipotent God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in beneficence and truth;

7 Fidèle à garder la justice et la compassion envers des milliers; ôtant l'iniquité, la faute, le péché, ne disculpant jamais le coupable, punissant les crimes des pères sur les enfants et les petits-enfants jusqu’à la troisième ou quatrième génération!

Keeping mercy unto the thousandth [generation], forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

8 Moïse se, hâta d'adorer la face contre terre,

And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and prostrated himself.

9 Et il dit: Si j'ai trouvé devant mon Seigneur, qu'il marche, avec nous; le peuple est revêche, mais vous ôterez nos péchés et nos dérèglements, et nous serons votre peuple.

And he said, If now I have found grace in thy eyes, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go among us; even because it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon thou our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thy heritage.

10 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: J'établis mon alliance avec toi devant tout ton peuple; je ferai des choses glorieuses, que l'on n'a jamais vues sur la terre ni chez aucune nation. Et tout le peuple que tu conduis verra les œuvres de Dieu, les merveilles que je ferai pour toi.

And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people will I perform wonders, such as have not been done on all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people amongst whom thou art shall see the work of the Lord; for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

11 Sois attentif à tout ce que je te prescris: je vais chasser devant votre face l'Amorrhéen, le Chananéen, le Phérézéen, l’Hettéen, l'Évéen, le Gergéséen et le Jébuséen.

Observe thou that which I command thee this day; behold, I will drive out before thee the Emorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Garde-foi de jamais faire d'alliance avec ceux qui sont établis sur cette terre en laquelle tu vas entrer, de peur qu'ils ne soient pour vous un sujet de chute.

Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land against which thou goest up, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee;

13 Démolissez leurs autels, brisez leurs colonnes, arrachez leurs bois sacrés; quant aux images de leurs dieux, consumez-les dans la flamme.

But their altars shall ye destroy, and their statues shall ye break, and their groves shall ye cut down.

14 N'adorez point de dieux étrangers, car le Seigneur Dieu est nommé zélateur; c'est un Dieu jaloux.

For thou shalt worship no other God; for the Lord whose name is Watchful, is a watchful God.

15 Ne fais jamais alliance avec ceux qui sont établis sur cette terre, de peur que les tiens ne se prostituent à leurs dieux, et ne leur offrent des sacrifices; que les habitants ne t'invitent et que tu n'en manges avec eux;

Make thou then no covenant with the inhabitants of the land; lest that, if they go astray after their gods, and sacrifice unto their gods, any one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

16 De peur aussi que tu ne prennes de leurs filles pour tes fils, ou que tu ne donnes de tes filles à leurs fils, et que tes filles ne se prostituent à leurs dieux, et que tes fils ne se prostituent à leurs dieux.

And lest thou take of his daughters unto thy sons; and when his daughters go astray after their gods, they make thy sons also go astray after their gods.

17 Tu ne te feras pas de dieux jetés en fonte.

Thou shalt not make unto thyself any molten gods.

18 Tu observeras la fête des azymes. Pendant sept jours, tu mangeras des azymes, comme je te l’ai ordonné, dans la saison et durant la lune des blés nouveaux, car c'est dans la lune des blés nouveaux que tu es sorti de l'Égypte.

The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I have commanded thee, in the time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib thou wentest forth out of Egypt.

19 Tout mâle, ayant ouvert des entrailles, sera à moi; le premier-né de la génisse, le premier-né de la brebis,

All that openeth the womb is mine; and every firstling that is a male among thy cattle, whether ox or lamb.

20 Le premier-né de l'ânesse, tu les rachèteras moyennant une brebis, et, si tu ne les rachètes, tu en paieras la valeur. Tu rachèteras tout premier-né de tes fils; tu ne te présenteras point devant moi les mains vides.

But the firstling of an ass shalt thou redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck; all the first-born of thy sons shalt thou redeem; and none shall appear before me empty.

21 Tu travailleras six jours, mais le septième est le repos; il y aura repos pour la semence, repos pour la moisson.

Six days thou mayest work, but on the seventh day shalt thou rest: even in ploughing time and in harvest shalt thou rest.

22 Tu me feras la fête des semaines, au commencement de la moisson des froments, et la fête de la récolte au milieu de l'année.

And the feast of weeks shalt thou observe, with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest; and the feast of ingathering at the closing of the year.

23 Trois fois par an, que tout mâle parmi vous se présente devant le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.

Thrice in the year shall all thy males appear before the Lord, the Eternal, the God of Israel.

24 Car, lorsque j'aurai chassé devant toi les nations, et dilaté tes limites, nul ne convoitera ta terre, si tu montes pour te présenter devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, à trois époques de l'année.

For I will cast out nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders; yet shall no man desire thy land, when thou goest up to appear in the presence of the Lord thy God thrice in the year.

25 Tu n'immoleras pas sur du pain fermenté les victimes que tu feras brûler pour moi; et tu ne garderas rien, jusqu'au matin suivant, des victimes de la pâque.

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall be left unto the morning the sacrifice of the feast of the passover.

26 Tu déposeras en la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu les prémices de ta terre; tu ne feras point cuire d'agneau au lait de sa mère.

The first of the first-fruits of thy land shalt thou bring unto the house of the Lord thy God: thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

27 Le Seigneur Dieu dit encore à Moïse: Écris toi-même ces paroles; car c'est sur ces paroles que je fonde mon alliance avec toi et avec Israël.

And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thee down these words; for after the tenor of these words have I made with thee a covenant and with Israel.

28 Et Moïse était là devant le Seigneur quarante jours et quarante nuits; il ne mangea pas de pain, il ne but point d'eau; et il grava sur les tables les commandements de l'alliance: le Décalogue.

And he remained there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; bread he did not eat, and water he did not drink; and he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

29 Et lorsque Moïse descendit de la montagne, il tenait en ses mains les deux tables; mais, tout en descendant de la montagne, Moïse ignorait que son visage était devenu glorieux, par la conversation du Seigneur.

And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai, with the two tables of the testimony in Moses' hand, when be came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone, because he had spoken with him.

30 Cependant, Aaron et tous les anciens d'Israël virent Moïse; ils virent que son visage était glorieux, et ils craignirent de s'approcher de lui.

And Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, and, behold, the skin of his face shone: and they were afraid to come nigh unto him.

31 Moïse les appela; Aaron aussitôt se retourna vers lui avec tous les chefs du peuple, et Moïse leur parla.

But Moses called unto them, and then returned unto him Aaron and all the princes of the congregation: and Moses spoke to them.

32 Ensuite, tous les fils d'Israël l'abordèrent, et il leur prescrivit tout ce que le Seigneur lui avait prescrit à lui-même sur le mont Sina.

And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he commanded them all that which the Lord had spoken with him on mount Sinai.

33 Et, lorsqu'il eut cessé de parler, il étendit un voile devant son visage.

And when Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail over his face.

34 Lorsque Moïse ensuite allait parler au Seigneur, il ôtait son voile jusqu'à ce qu'il revînt répéter aux fils d'Israël tout ce que lui avait prescrit le Seigneur.

But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out; and then he came out, and spoke unto the children of Israel that which he had been commanded.

35 Et les fils d'Israël voyaient que le visage de Moïse était glorieux, et Moïse étendait un voile sur son visage jusqu'à ce qu'il s'en allât parler au Seigneur.

And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail again over his face, until he went in to speak with him.
