Exode 22
1 Si un homme vole un veau ou une brebis, et qu'il l'égorge ou le vende, il rendra cinq veaux pour le veau, et quatre brebis pour la brebis.
If a man steale an oxe or a sheepe, and kill it or sell it, he shall restore fiue oxen for the oxe, and foure sheepe for the sheepe.
2 Si le voleur a été trouvé perçant le mur, et que blessé, il meure; il n'y a point de meurtre à son sujet.
If a thiefe bee founde breaking vp, and be smitten that he dye, no blood shall be shed for him.
3 Si le soleil était levé, celui qui a frappé le voleur est coupable qu'on le mette à mort; si le voleur n'a rien, qu'on le vende pour prix de l'objet volé.
But if it be in the day light, blood shall be shed for him: for he should make full restitution: if he had not wherewith, then shoulde he bee solde for his theft.
4 Si la bête volée vit encore et est trouvée dans ses mains, depuis l'âne jusqu'à la brebis, il en rendra le double.
If the theft bee founde with him, aliue, (whether it be oxe, asse, or sheepe) he shall restore the double.
5 Si quelqu'un cause du dommage dans un champ ou une vigne, et s'il laisse son bétail paître dans le champ d'autrui, il indemnisera de son propre champ, selon ses produits. Si tout le champ d'autrui a été dévoré, il indemnisera du meilleur de son champ et du meilleur de sa vigne.
If a man doe hurt fielde, or vineyarde, and put in his beast to feed in an other mans fielde, he shall recompence of the best of his owne fielde, and of the best of his owne vineyard.
6 Si un feu rencontrant des épines gagne de proche en proche et brûle des meules ou des épis, ou la récolte d'un champ, celui qui aura allumé le feu paiera la perte.
If fire breake out, and catche in ye thornes, and the stackes of corne, or the standing corne, or the fielde be consumed, he that kindled the fire shall make full restitution.
7 Si un homme donne à son voisin de l'argent ou un objet à garder, et que le dépôt soit volé en la maison du dépositaire, si le voleur est découvert il rendra le double;
If a man deliuer his neighbour money or stuffe to keepe, and it be stollen out of his house, if the thiefe be found, he shall pay the double.
8 Mais si le voleur n'est pas trouvé, le dépositaire ira devant Dieu et jurera qu'il n'a point agi méchamment au sujet du dépôt,
If the thiefe be not founde, then the master of the house shalbe brought vnto the Iudges to sweare, whether he hath put his hande vnto his neighbours good, or no.
9 Ni du délit déclaré; que l'on ait pris veau, ou âne, ou brebis, ou vêtement, ou quoi que ce soit, un jugement sera rendu devant Dieu entre le plaignant et le dépositaire, et celui qui sera découvert par le Seigneur restituera le double.
In all maner of trespasse, whether it bee for oxen, for asse, for sheepe, for raiment, or for any maner of lost thing, which an other chalengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the iudges, and whom the Iudges condemne, he shall pay the double vnto his neighbour.
10 Si un homme donne à garder à son voisin âne ou veau, brebis ou autre bête, et que la bête soit malade ou morte, ou prise de vive force par l'ennemi sans que personne le sache,
If a man deliuer vnto his neighbour to keepe asse, or oxe, or sheepe, or any beast, and it die, or be hurt, or taken away by enemies, and no man see it,
11 Il y aura, entre les deux hommes, serment devant Dieu; le dépositaire jurera qu'il n'a pas agi méchamment au sujet du dépôt; le voisin ainsi l'agréera, et il n'y aura point d'indemnité.
An othe of the Lord shalbe betweene the twaine, that hee hath not put his hande vnto his neighbours good, and the owner of it shall take the othe, and he shall not make it good:
12 Mais si la bête a été dérobée chez lui, il indemnisera le maître de la bête.
But if it be stollen from him, he shall make restitution vnto the owner thereof.
13 Si elle a été prise par une bête fauve, il le conduira sur ses traces, et ne devra rien.
If it be torne in pieces, he shall bring recorde, and shall not make that good, which is deuoured.
14 Si un homme a emprunté à son voisin une bête qui tombe malade, qui meure on qui soit prise de vive force par l'ennemi, et cela en l'absence du maître, il paiera l'indemnité.
And if a man borow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or els die, the owner thereof not being by, he shall surely make it good.
15 Mais si le maître était avec la bête, l'emprunteur ne paiera rien; si c'était un homme à gages, il perdra son salaire.
If the owner thereof bee by, hee shall not make it good: for if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.
16 Si un homme trompe une vierge qui n'est point encore fiancée, et s'il dort avec elle, il lui donnera une dot et l'épousera;
And if a man entise a maide that is not betrothed, and lie with her, hee shall endowe her, and take her to his wife.
17 Mais s'il s'y refuse ou si le père de la vierge ne veut pas qu'il l'ait pour femme, il lui donnera autant d'argent qu'on en donne pour doter les vierges.
If her father refuse to giue her to him, hee shall pay money, according to ye dowry of virgins.
18 Vous ne souffrirez point les magiciens.
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to liue.
19 Celui qui se sera accouplé à une bête, punissez-le de mort.
Whosoeuer lieth with a beast, shall dye the death.
20 Celui qui sacrifiera à des dieux autres que le Seigneur sera exterminé.
Hee that offereth vnto any gods, saue vnto the Lord onely, shalbe slaine.
21 Vous ne maltraiterez pas l'étranger et vous ne l'opprimerez point; car vous étiez étranger en la terre d'Égypte.
Moreouer, thou shalt not do iniurie to a stranger, neither oppresse him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
22 Vous ne maltraiterez jamais la veuve ni l'orphelin.
Ye shall not trouble any widowe, nor fatherlesse childe.
23 Si vous les maltraitez, s'ils crient vers moi, j'entendrai leurs cris;
If thou vexe or trouble such, and so he call and cry vnto me, I will surely heare his cry.
24 Et je serai courroucé en mon Cœur, et je vous ferai périr par l'épée; vos femmes deviendront veuves, et vos enfants orphelins.
Then shall my wrath be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wiues shall be widowes, and your children fatherlesse.
25 Si chez toi tu prêtes de l'argent à ton frère pauvre tu ne le presseras pas, et tu ne lui demanderas point d'intérêt.
If thou lende money to my people, that is, to the poore with thee, thou shalt not bee as an vsurer vnto him: yee shall not oppresse him with vsurie.
26 Si tu as pris en nantissement le manteau de ton voisin, tu le lui rendras avant le coucher du soleil.
If thou take thy neighbours rayment to pledge, thou shalt restore it vnto him before the sunne go downe:
27 Car c'est son vêtement unique, l'unique voile de sa nudité: avec quoi dormirait-il? Si donc il crie vers moi, je l'écouterai, parce que je suis miséricordieux.
For that is his couering only, and this is his garment for his skin: wherin shall he sleepe? therefore when he crieth vnto mee, I will heare him: for I am mercifull.
28 Tu ne maudiras point les dieux, tu n'injurieras point le prince de ton peuple.
Thou shalt not raile vpon the Iudges, neither speake euil of the ruler of thy people.
29 Tu ne différeras point l'offrande des prémices de tes aires et de tes pressoirs; tu me donneras les premiers-nés de tes fils.
Thine abundance and thy licour shalt thou not keepe backe. The first borne of thy sonnes shalt thou giue me.
30 Tu me donneras aussi le premier-né de ta génisse, de ta brebis, de ton ânesse; tu le laisseras sept jours sous sa mère; le huitième jour tu me le donneras.
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheepe: seuen dayes it shall bee with his damme, and the eight day thou shalt giue it me.
31 Vous serez des hommes saints devant moi, et vous ne mangerez point de chair enlevée par les bêtes fauves; vous la jetterez aux chiens.
Ye shall be an holy people vnto me, neither shall ye eate any flesh that is torne of beastes in the fielde: ye shall cast it to the dogge.
