Exode 16

1 Partie d'Elim, toute la synagogue des fils d'Israël arriva au désert de Sin, qui est entre Elim et Sina; et le quinzième jour du second mois, après la sortie d'Égypte.

Afterward all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from Elim, and came to the wildernes of Sin, (which is betweene Elim and Sinai) the fiftenth day of the second moneth after their departing out of ye land of Egypt.

2 Tout le peuple d'Israël murmura contre Aaron et Moïse.

And the whole Congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wildernesse.

3 Plût à Dieu, leur dirent les fils d'Israël, que nous eussions péri frappés par le Seigneur en la terre d'Égypte, lorsque nous étions assis devant des marmites pleines de viande, et que nous mangions du pain à satiété; puisque vous nous avez conduits en ce désert pour faire mourir de faim tout le peuple.

For the children of Israel sayde to them, Oh that we had dyed by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when wee sate by the flesh pots, when wee ate bread our bellies full: for yee haue brought vs out into this wildernesse, to kill this whole company with famine.

4 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Voilà que je vais faire tomber des pains du ciel; le peuple sortira de ses tentes, et il les recueillera pour chaque jour, afin que je l'éprouve, et que je sache s'il marchera selon ma loi ou non.

Then sayd the Lord vnto Moses, Behold, I wil cause bread to rayne from heauen to you, and the people shall goe out, and gather that that is sufficient for euery day, that I may proue them, whether they wil walke in my Law or no.

5 Le sixième jour chacun préparera ce qu'il aura rapporté, et ce sera le double de ce qu'on recueillera chaque jour.

But the sixt daye they shall prepare that, which they shall bring home, and it shalbe twise as much as they gather dayly.

6 Et Moïse et Aaron dirent à toute la synagogue des fils d'Israël: Ce soir vous reconnaîtrez que c'est le Seigneur qui vous a tirés de la terre d'Égypte.

Then Moses and Aaron sayde vnto all the children of Israel, At euen ye shall know, that the Lord brought you out of the land of Egypt:

7 Et, à l'aurore, vous verrez la gloire du Seigneur, qui a entendu vos murmures contre Dieu; car, que sommes-nous, pour que vous murmuriez contre nous?

And in the morning ye shall see the glorie of the Lord: for he hath heard your grudgings against the Lord: and what are we that ye haue murmured against vs?

8 Moïse dit encore: Le Seigneur montrera sa gloire en vous donnant le soir des chairs à manger, et le matin des pains à satiété; car il a entendu vos murmures contre nous, et que sommes-nous? Ce n'est point contre nous que sont vos murmures, mais contre Dieu.

Againe Moses sayd, At euen shall the Lord giue you flesh to eate, and in the morning your fil of bread: for the Lord hath heard your murmurings, which ye murmure against him: for what are we? your murmurings are not against vs, but against the Lord.

9 Ensuite Moïse dit à Aaron: Dis à toute la synagogue des fils d'Israël: Allez devant Dieu, il a entendu vos murmures.

And Moses sayd to Aaron, Say vnto all the Congregation of the children of Israel, Draw neere before the Lord: for he hath heard your murmurings.

10 Dès qu'Aaron eut parlé à toute la synagogue des fils d'Israël, et qu'ils se furent retournés du côté du désert, la gloire du Seigneur leur apparut en une nuée.

Now as Aaron spake vnto the whole Congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wildernesse, and beholde, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloude.

11 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:

(For the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, saying,

12 J'ai entendu le murmure des fils d'Israël, dis-leur: Sur le soir vous mangerez de la chair, et à l'aurore vous vous rassasierez de pain, et vous connaîtrez que je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.

I haue heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: tell them therefore, and say, At euen ye shall eate flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread, and ye shall knowe that I am the Lord your God)

13 Sur le soir, il vint, en effet, des cailles qui couvrirent tout le camp; le matin, une rosée tomba autour du camp.

And so at euen the quailes came and couered the campe: and in the morning the dewe lay round about the hoste.

14 Et voilà que, sur la face du désert, il y eut une chose légère, semblable à de la coriandre blanche, semblable à du givre sur la terre.

And when the dewe that was fallen was ascended, beholde, a small round thing was vpon the face of the wildernes, small as the hoare frost on the earth.

15 Ce qu'avant vu, les fils d'Israël se dirent entre eux: Qu'est-ce que cela? Car ils ne savaient ce que c'était; et Moïse leur dit: C'est le pain que le Seigneur vous donne à manger.

And when the children of Israel sawe it, they sayde one to another, It is MAN, for they wist not what it was. And Moses sayd vnto them, This is the breade which the Lord hath giuen you to eate.

16 Voici le commandement du Seigneur: Recueillez-en chacun pour votre famille un gomor par tête, selon le nombre de vos âmes; que chacun de vous en recueille avec ceux qui demeurent sous sa tente.

This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded: gather of it euery man according to his eating an Omer for a man according to the number of your persons: euery man shall take for them which are in his tent.

17 Ainsi firent les fils d'Israël; ils en ramassèrent: l'un beaucoup, l'autre moins.

And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some lesse.

18 Puis, ils mesurèrent au gomor, selon le nombre de têtes; et ceux qui eurent le plus, n’eurent point trop et ceux qui eurent le moins, eurent assez; chacun en ramassa autant qu'il lui en fallait pour les siens.

And when they did measure it with an Omer, hee that had gathered much, had nothing ouer, and he that had gathered litle, had no lacke: so euery man gathered according to his eating.

19 Et Moïse leur dit: N'en laissez rien pour demain.

Moses then said vnto them, Let no man reserue thereof till morning.

20 Mais tous n'obéirent pas à Moïse; quelques-uns en gardèrent pour le lendemain, et il en sortit des vers; une mauvaise odeur s'en exhala, et Moïse s'irrita contre eux.

Notwithstanding they obeyed not Moses: but some of them reserued of it till morning, and it was full of wormes, and stanke: therefore Moses was angrie with them.

21 Ils en recueillirent ainsi tous les matins, chacun selon ses besoins, et, quand le soleil répandait sa chaleur, le reste fondait.

And they gathered it euery morning, euery man according to his eating: for when the heate of the sunne came, it was melted.

22 Le sixième jour vint, et ils en recueillirent le double, deux gomors par tête, et tous les princes de la synagogue vinrent en faire le rapport à Moïse.

And the sixt day they gathered twise so much bread, two Omers for one man: then all the rulers of the Congregation came and told Moses.

23 Moïse leur dit: N'est-ce point là le commandement du Seigneur? Demain est le jour du sabbat, le saint repos du Seigneur: tout ce que vous avez à cuire, cuisez-le; tout ce que vous avez à préparer, préparez-le; et tout le superflu vous le laisserez pour demain en réserve dans vos tentes.

And he answered them, This is that, which the Lord hath sayde, To morowe is the rest of the holy Sabbath vnto the Lord: bake that to day which ye wil bake, and seethe that which ye wil seethe, and all that remaineth, lay it vp to be kept till the morning for you.

24 Ils en conservèrent jusqu'au lendemain, comme le leur avait ordonné Moïse, et il n'y eut point de mauvaise odeur, et il ne s'y trouva pas de vers.

And they laied it vp till the morning, as Moses bade, and it stanke not, neyther was there any worme therein.

25 Alors, Moïse dit: Mangez cela aujourd'hui, car c’est aujourd'hui le sabbat du Seigneur; et vous ne trouverez rien dans la plaine.

Then Moses sayde, Eate that to day: for to day is the Sabbath vnto the Lord: to day ye shall not finde it in the fielde.

26 Vous recueillerez six jours; mais le septième, le jour du sabbat, il n'y aura rien.

Sixe dayes shall yee gather it, but in the seuenth day is the Sabbath: in it there shalbe none.

27 Or, le septième jour, quelques-uns sortirent pour ramasser de ces vivres, et ils ne trouvèrent rien.

Notwithstanding, there went out some of the people in ye seuenth day for to gather, and they found none.

28 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Jusqu'à quand refuserez-vous d'obéir à mes commandements et à ma loi?

And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Howe long refuse yee to keepe my commandements, and my lawes?

29 Voyez, ce jour-ci est le sabbat prescrit par le Seigneur; c'est pourquoi, le sixième jour, il vous a donné les vivres de deux jours. Que chacun reste en repos sous sa tente, que nul ne sorte le septième jour.

Beholde, howe the Lord hath giuen you the Sabbath: therefore he giueth you the sixt day bread for two dayes: tary therefore euery man in his place: let no man goe out of his place the seuenth day.

30 Et, le septième jour, le peuple observa le sabbat.

So the people rested the seuenth day.

31 Quant à cet aliment, les fils d'Israël lui donnèrent le nom de manne; il ressemblait à la graine de coriandre blanche, et il avait le goût de la fleur de farine, mêlée avec le miel.

And the house of Israel called the name of it, MAN. and it was like to coriander seede, but white: and the taste of it was like vnto wafers made with hony.

32 Et Moïse dit: Voici le commandement du Seigneur: Remplissez de manne un gomor pour le conserver à votre postérité; qu'elle voie le pain que vous avez mangé dans le désert, quand le Seigneur vous eut fait sortir de la terre d'Égypte.

And Moses said, This is that which the Lord hath commanded, Fill an Omer of it, to keepe it for your posteritie: that they may see the bread wherewith I haue fed you in wildernesse, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.

33 Moïse dit aussi à Aaron: Prends un vase d'or, verses-y le gomor de manne, et dépose-le devant le Seigneur pour le conserver à votre postérité,

Moses also said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an Omer full of MAN therein, and set it before the Lord to be kept for your posteritie.

34 Comme Dieu l'a prescrit à Moïse. Et, Aaron déposa le vase devant le témoignage pour le conserver.

As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laied it vp before the Testimonie to be kept.

35 Les fils d'Israël mangèrent de la manne jusqu'à ce qu'ils fussent arrivés en leur demeure; ils s'en nourrirent jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent atteint la frontière de la Phénicie.

And the children of Israel did eate MAN fourtie yeres, vntill they came vnto a land inhabited: they did eate MAN vntill they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

36 Le gomor était le dixième de trois mesures.

The Omer is the tenth part of the Ephah.
