Ecclésiaste 11
1 Laisse aller ton pain au cours de l'eau; car après bien des jours tu le retrouveras.
Cast thy bread upon the face of the waters; for after many days wilt thou find it again.
2 Distribues-en à sept, même à huit personnes; car tu ignores ce qu'il doit y avoir de maux sur la terre.
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what evil may come upon the earth.—
3 Lorsque les nuées sont pleines, elles fondent en pluie sur la terre; et si un arbre tombe au midi ou au nord, il restera là où il sera tombé.
If the clouds be full of rain, they will empty it out upon the earth; and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, on the place where the tree falleth, there will it remain.
4 Celui qui observe le vent ne sèmera pas; et celui qui regarde aux nuages ne moissonnera pas.
He that watcheth the wind will not sow; and he that gazeth on the clouds will not reap.
5 Car nul ne sait quelle est la voie du vent; comme les os cachés dans les entrailles de la femme grosse, de même te sont cachées les œuvres que Dieu a faites et toutes celle qu'Il fera encore.
As thou knowest not which is the way of the wind, as little as what is enclosed in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou canst not know the works of God who maketh all.
6 Sème ton grain dès l'aurore, et que ta main ne s'arrête pas le soir; car tu ignores de celui-ci ou de celui-là lequel doit lever; s'ils lèvent tous les deux à la fois, c'est bien.
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening let not thy hand rest; for thou knowest not which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both of them will be alike good.
7 La lumière est douce, et il est bon aux yeux de voir le soleil.
Truly the light is sweet, and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes to see the sun;
8 L'homme qui doit vivre beaucoup d'années trouvera en toutes de la joie, et il se souviendra des jours de ténèbres, car ils seront nombreux: tout ce qui est passé est vanité.
For if a man live [even] many years, let him rejoice in them all; and let him remember the days of darkness; for they will be many; all that cometh is vanity.
9 Jeune homme, réjouis-toi en ta jeunesse; que, durant les jours de ta jeunesse, ton cœur te réjouisse; marche avec innocence dans les voies de ton cœur, et non seulement ce que tes yeux auront vu. Mais sache par-dessus tout ce que le Seigneur t'appellera devant Sa justice.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy childhood; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youthful vigor, and walk firmly in the ways of thy heart, and in [the direction which] thy eyes see: but know thou, that concerning all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Éloigne de ton cœur la colère, et bannis de ta chair la méchanceté; car la jeunesse et la folie sont vanité.
And remove vexation from thy heart, and cause evil to pass away from thy body; for childhood and the time when the head is black are vanity.
