Deutéronome 7
1 Lorsque le Seigneur t'aura introduit en la terre où tu vas, pour qu'elle soit ton héritage, et que devant tes yeux il aura fait disparaître de grandes nations: l'Hettéen, le Gergéséen, l'Amorrhéen, le Chananéen, le Phérézéen, l'Evéen et le Jébuséen, sept nations nombreuses et plus fortes que toi,
When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possesse it, and shall roote out many nations before thee: the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hiuites, and the Iebusites, seuen nations greater and mightier then thou,
2 Et que le Seigneur ton Dieu te les aura livrées, et que tu les auras vaincues, tu les effaceras entièrement, tu ne feras pas d'alliance avec elles, tu seras pour elles sans pitié.
And the Lord thy God shall giue them before thee, then thou shalt smite them: thou shalt vtterly destroy them: thou shalt make no couenant with them, nor haue compassion on them,
3 Vous ne ferez point de mariages avec elles; tu ne donneras point à son fils ta fille, et tu ne prendras point sa fille pour ton fils.
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them, neither giue thy daughter vnto his sonne, nor take his daughter vnto thy sonne.
4 Car sa fille détournerait ton fils de moi, et il servirait d'autres dieux, et le Seigneur se courroucerait contre son peuple, et il t'exterminerait tout à coup.
For they wil cause thy sonne to turne away from me, and to serue other gods: then will the wrath of the Lord waxe hote against you and destroy thee suddenly.
5 Voici comme vous les traiterez: vous enlèverez leurs autels, vous briserez leurs colonnes, vous arracherez leurs bois sacrés, vous consumerez par la flamme les images sculptées de leurs dieux.
But thus ye shall deale with them, Ye shall ouerthrowe their altars, and breake downe their pillars, and ye shall cut downe their groues, and burne their grauen images with fire.
6 Car tu es un peuple saint, le peuple du Seigneur ton Dieu, et le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a choisi pour que tu sois son propre peuple, séparé de toutes les nations qui existent sur la surface de la terre.
For thou art an holy people vnto the Lord thy God, the Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be a precious people vnto himselfe, aboue all people that are vpon the earth.
7 Le Seigneur ne vous a point préférés, il ne vous a pas choisis parce que vous êtes plus nombreux qu'aucune de ces nations; car vous êtes moindres en nombre que chacun de ces peuples.
The Lord did not set his loue vpon you, nor chose you, because ye were more in number then any people: for ye were the fewest of all people:
8 Mais il vous aime et il tient le serment qu'il a fait à vos pères. Voilà pourquoi le Seigneur vous a guidés d'une main puissante; il t'a fait sortir de la maison de servitude, il t'a délivré de la maison du Pharaon, roi d'Egypte.
But because the Lord loued you, and because hee would keepe the othe which hee had sworne vnto your fathers, the Lord hath brought you out by a mightie hand, and deliuered you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt,
9 Tu sauras que le Seigneur ton Dieu, le seul Dieu, est un Dieu fidèle, réservant son alliance et sa miséricorde à ceux qui l'aiment et à ceux qui observent ses commandements, pendant des milliers de générations,
That thou mayest knowe, that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithfull God which keepeth couenant and mercie vnto them that loue him and keepe his commandements, euen to a thousand generations,
10 Mais se vengeant dès le début de ceux qui le haïssent; ceux-là, il les extermine; il ne met point de retard avec ceux qui le haïssent, il en tirera une vengeance soudaine.
And rewardeth them to their face that hate him, to bring them to destruction: he wil not deferre to reward him that hateth him, to his face.
11 Tu observeras les commandements, les jugements et les ordonnances que je t'intime aujourd'hui.
Keepe thou therefore the commandements, and the ordinances, and the lawes, which I commaund thee this day to doe them.
12 Aussi longtemps que tu obéiras à ces préceptes, que tu t'appliqueras à les mettre en pratique, le Seigneur ton Dieu te conservera l'alliance et la miséricorde qu'il a promises à tes pères.
For if ye hearken vnto these lawes, and obserue and doe them, then the Lord thy God shall keepe with thee the couenant, and the mercie which he sware vnto thy fathers.
13 Et il t'aimera, et il te bénira; il te multipliera, il bénira les fruits de tes entrailles, et les produits de ta terre: ton blé, ton vin, ton huile, tes grands et menus troupeaux sur la terre que le Seigneur a juré à tes pères de te donner.
And he wil loue thee, and blesse thee, and multiplie thee: he will also blesse the fruite of thy wombe, and the fruite of thy land, thy corne and thy wine, and thine oyle and the increase of thy kine, and the flockes of thy sheepe in the land, which he sware vnto thy fathers to giue thee.
14 Tu seras béni au-dessus de toutes les nations; il n'y aura point parmi vous d'hommes sans enfants, ni de femme stérile; il n'y aura point non plus de stérilité parmi les troupeaux.
Thou shalt be blessed aboue all people: there shall be neither male nor female barren among you, nor among your cattell.
15 Et le Seigneur ton Dieu te préservera de toute maladie, et de ces mauvaises contagions de l'Egypte que tu as vues; il ne fera tomber sur toi aucune de celles que tu y as connues, et il en frappera ceux qui te haïssent.
Moreouer, the Lord will take away from thee all infirmities, and will put none of the euill diseases of Egypt (which thou knowest) vpon thee, but wil send them vpon all that hate thee.
16 Et tu mangeras ce que tu auras enlevé à ces nations; le Seigneur te le donne; ton œil ne les prendra pas en pitié, et tu ne serviras point leurs dieux, car ce serait pour toi un achoppement.
Thou shalt therefore consume all people which the Lord thy God shall giue thee: thine eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serue their gods, for that shalbe thy destruction.
17 Et si, en ta pensée, tu dis: Telle de ces nations est plus forte que moi, comment pourrai-je l'exterminer?
If thou say in thine heart, These nations are moe then I, how can I cast them out?
18 Rassure-toi; rappelle à ton souvenir tout ce qu'a fait le Seigneur ton Dieu au Pharaon et aux Egyptiens,
Thou shalt not feare them, but remember what the Lord thy God did vnto Pharaoh, and vnto all Egypt:
19 Les grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, les signes et les grands prodiges, la main puissante et le bras très-haut; de même que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a délivré, de même il te fera triompher de toutes les nations dont tu redoutes la face.
The great tentations which thine eyes sawe, and the signes and wonders, and the mighty hand and stretched out arme, whereby the Lord thy God brought thee out: so shall the Lord thy God do vnto all ye people, whose face thou fearest.
20 Le Seigneur ton Dieu enverra contre elles des essaims de guêpes, jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient détruit celles qui t'auraient échappé et se seraient cachées devant toi.
Moreouer, the Lord thy God will send hornets among them vntil they that are left, and hide themselues from thee, be destroyed.
21 Tu ne seras pas blessé en face d'elles: parce que le Seigneur ton Dieu est avec toi: Dieu grand et puissant.
Thou shalt not feare them: for the Lord thy God is among you, a God mightie and dreadful.
22 Le Seigneur ton Dieu les détruira peu à peu devant toi; tu ne pourras les exterminer soudain, de peur que la contrée ne devienne un désert, et que les bêtes farouches ne se multiplient contre toi.
And the Lord thy God wil roote out these nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, least the beasts of the fielde increase vpon thee.
23 Le Seigneur ton Dieu te les livrera; tu les détruiras lentement jusqu'à ce qu'enfin tu les aies exterminées.
But the Lord thy God shall giue them before thee, and shall destroy them with a mightie destruction, vntill they be brought to naught.
24 Et il te livrera leurs rois, et tu effaceras leur nom de ce pays; nul ne te résistera face à face, jusqu'à ce que tu les aies exterminées.
And he shall deliuer their Kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from vnder heauen: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, vntill thou hast destroyed them.
25 Tu consumeras par la flamme les images sculptées de leurs dieux; tu ne convoiteras ni l'or ni l'argent qui les ornent; tu ne le prendras pas pour toi, de peur que tu n'en sois puni; car c'est une abomination pour le Seigneur ton Dieu.
The grauen images of their gods shall ye burne with fire, and couet not the siluer and golde, that is on them, nor take it vnto thee, least thou be snared therewith: for it is an abomination before the Lord thy God.
26 Tu n'emporteras point d'abominations en ta demeure, car tu serais anathème comme elles; tu les détesteras, tu les auras en abomination: elles sont anathèmes.
Bring not therefore abomination into thine house, lest, thou be accursed like it, but vtterly abhorre it, and count it most abominable: for it is accursed.
