Deutéronome 5

1 Et Moïse convoqua tout Israël, et il dit: Ecoute, Israël, les jugements et les ordonnances que je vais te faire entendre aujourd'hui: retiens-les, et veille à les mettre en pratique.

And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and that ye may observe to do them.

2 Le Seigneur votre Dieu a fait alliance avec vous en Horeb.

The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 Ce n'est point avec vos pères que le Seigneur a fait cette alliance, mais avec vous, vous tous assemblés ici, vivant encore.

Not with our fathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, we who are here all of us alive this day.

4 Le Seigneur vous a parlé face à face en la montagne, au milieu du feu.

Face to face did the Lord speak with you on the mount, out of the midst of the fire,

5 Et moi, en ce temps-là, je me tenais entre le Seigneur et vous, pour vous rapporter les paroles du Seigneur; car vous étiez épouvantés à l'aspect du feu, et vous ne montiez point sur la montagne; et le Seigneur a dit:

(I was standing between the Lord and between you at that time, to announce to you the word of the Lord; for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and ye went not up into the mount; ) saying,

6 Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu qui t'ai fait sortir de la terre d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.

I am the Lord thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

7 Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux devant ma face.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

8 Tu ne te feras point d'idoles, ni d'images d'aucune chose existant dans le ciel, sur la terre, sous la terre et dans les eaux.

Thou shalt not make unto thyself any graven image, any likeness of any thing that is in the heavens above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

9 Tu ne les adoreras point, tu ne les serviras point; car je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, Dieu jaloux, vengeant sur les enfants les péchés des pères, jusqu'à la troisième ou à la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,

Thou shalt not bow thyself down unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,

10 Et faisant miséricorde, pendant des milliers de générations, à ceux qui m'aiment et qui observent mes commandements.

And showing kindness unto the thousandth generation of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

11 Tu ne prendras pas en vain le nom du Seigneur ton Dieu; car le Seigneur ton Dieu ne regardera point comme pur celui qui aura pris son nom en vain.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

12 Sois attentif le jour du sabbat a le sanctifier, comme te l'a prescrit le Seigneur ton Dieu.

Keep the sabbath-day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.

13 Pendant six jours, travaille et fais tous tes ouvrages.

Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;

14 Mais le septième jour est le sabbat du Seigneur ton Dieu; tu ne feras aucune œuvre en ce jour-là, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucune de tes bêtes, ni le prosélyte demeurant avec toi; ton serviteur, ta servante, ton âne, se reposeront comme toi.

But the seventh day is the sabbath in honor of the Lord thy God; on it thou shalt not do any work, neither thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: in order that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou.

15 Souviens-toi que tu étais esclave en Egypte, et que le Seigneur Dieu t'en a fait sortir par une main puissante, par un bras très-haut; c'est pourquoi le Seigneur ton Dieu te commande d'observer le jour du sabbat et de le sanctifier.

And thou shalt remember that thou hast been a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore hath the Lord thy God commanded thee to observe the sabbath-day.

16 Honore ton père et ta mère, comme te l'a prescrit le Seigneur ton Dieu, afin que tu sois heureux, et que tu vives longtemps sur la terre que te donne le Seigneur ton Dieu.

Honor thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee: in order that thy days may be prolonged, and in order that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

17 Tu ne seras pas adultère.

Thou shalt not kill.

18 Tu ne tueras point.

Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

19 Tu ne voleras point.

Neither shalt thou steal.

20 Tu ne porteras pas de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.

Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.

21 Tu ne convoiteras pas la femme de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras pas la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune de ses bêtes, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain.

Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's wife. Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's house, nor his field, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

22 Telles sont les paroles que le Seigneur a dites en la montagne, devant toute votre synagogue, au milieu du feu; alentour, il y avait obscurité, ténèbres, tempête, grands éclats de tonnerre; et il n'y a rien ajouté, et il a gravé ces paroles sur deux tables de pierre, et il me les a données.

These words did the Lord speak unto all your assembly on the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, but he did so no more; and he wrote them on two tables of stone, and he gave them unto me.

23 Et, pendant que vous écoutiez la voix qui sortait du feu, la montagne était enflammée; alors, vous vîntes à moi, vous tous, vous princes de vos tribus, avec vos anciens;

And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mount was burning with fire, that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

24 Vous dites: Voilà que le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a montré sa gloire, et nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu du feu; nous savons aujourd'hui que le Seigneur Dieu peut parler à un homme, et celui-ci vivre encore.

And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath caused us to see his glory and his greatness, and his voice have we heard out of the midst of the fire: this day have we seen that God can speak with man, who nevertheless may live.

25 Maintenant, prends garde que nous ne mourions; car ce grand feu va nous dévorer, si nous continuons d'écouter la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous périrons.

But now why should we die? for this great fire may consume us; if we continue to hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then shall we die.

26 En effet, quelle chair aura entendu, comme nous, la voix du Dieu vivant, parlant du milieu du feu, et vivra encore?

For where is there any flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, like us, and hath remained alive?

27 Approche-toi donc seul, écoute tout ce que dira le Seigneur notre Dieu, et tu nous répèteras tout ce que t'aura dit le Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous le saurons, et nous obéirons.

Do thou approach, and hear all that the Lord our God may say; and thou shalt speak unto us all that the Lord our God may speak unto thee; and we will hear and do it.

28 Et le Seigneur ouït la rumeur de vos discours pendant que vous me parliez, et il me dit: j'ai ouï la rumeur des discours de ce peuple, j'ai entendu tout ce qu'il t'a dit; et, en tout, il a bien parlé.

And the Lord heard the voice of your words, while ye were speaking unto me; and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have done well in all that they have spoken.

29 Puissent leurs cœurs ne point changer, afin qu'ils me craignent et observent mes commandements; alors, ils prospèreront, eux et leurs fils, à jamais!

Who would grant that this their heart might remain in them, to fear me, and to keep all my commandments at all times; in order that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30 Va, et dis-leur: Retournez sous vos tentes.

Go, say to them, Return you unto your tents.

31 Cependant, demeure auprès de moi, et je te dirai les commandements, les jugements et les ordonnances que tu auras à leur enseigner, afin qu'ils les mettent en pratique dans la terre que je leur donne pour héritage.

But as for thee, remain thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

32 Soyez donc attentifs à vous conduire comme l'a prescrit le Seigneur votre Dieu; ne vous écartez ni à droite ni à gauche,

Observe ye then to do as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right or to the left.

33 En toute voie ou le Seigneur votre Dieu vous a prescrit de marcher, si vous voulez qu'il vous donne prospérité et repos; et vous vivrez de longs jours en la terre qui sera votre héritage.

altogether in the way, which the Lord your God hath commanded you, shall ye walk; in order that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may remain many days in the land which ye will possess.
