Deutéronome 3
1 Et nous nous remîmes en marche, en suivant la route de Basan, et Og, roi de Basan, sortit à notre rencontre avec son peuple pour nous combattre en Edraï
“And we turn and go up the way to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan comes out to meet us, he and all his people, to the battle [at] Edrei.
2 Et le Seigneur me dit: Ne le crains pas, je l'ai livré à tes mains avec tout son peuple et son territoire; traite-le comme tu as traité Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui résidait en Esebon.
And YHWH says to me, Do not fear him, for I have given him, and all his people, and his land into your hand, and you have done to him as you have done to Sihon king of the Amorite who is dwelling in Heshbon.
3 Et le Seigneur notre Dieu nous le livra, lui et tout son peuple; nous le battîmes si complètement, que rien ne reste de sa race.
And our God YHWH indeed gives Og king of Bashan and all his people into our hands, and we strike him until there has been no remnant left to him;
4 En ce temps-là, nous nous rendîmes maîtres de toutes ses villes; il n'y en eut pas une que nous ne prîmes: les soixante villes et tout le territoire d'Argob, possession du roi Og de Basan,
and we capture all his cities at that time; there has not been a city which we have not taken from them—sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
5 Toutes villes fortes, avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barrières, nous les détruisîmes, outre les villes des Phérézéens, qui étaient très-nombreuses,
All these [are] cities fortified with high walls, double gates, and bar, apart from very many cities of the open place;
6 Comme nous avions détruit celles de Séhon, roi d'Esebon; nous détruisîmes tour à tour chaque ville, nous exterminâmes femmes et enfants,
and we devote them, as we have done to Sihon king of Heshbon, devoting [the] men, the women, and the infants of every city;
7 Ainsi que tout le bétail. Et nous prîmes pour notre butin toute la dépouille des villes.
and all the livestock, and the spoil of the cities, we have spoiled for ourselves.
8 En ce temps nous devînmes maîtres, à la place des deux rois amorrhéens, de toute la rive gauche du Jourdain, depuis le torrent d'Arnon jusqu'à Hermon.
And at that time we take the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorite, which is beyond the Jordan, from the Brook of Arnon to Mount Hermon
9 (Les Phéniciens nomment Hermon Sanior, et les Amorrhéens Sanir.)
(Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),
10 Nous prîmes toutes les villes de Misor avec tout Galaad, et tout Basan, jusqu'à Esga et Edraï, villes du royaume de Og en Basan.
all the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, as far as Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
11 Og, roi de Basan, était seul resté de la race de Raphaïm: son lit était de fer; on le voit dans la citadelle des fils d'Ammon; il a de long neuf coudées d'homme adulte sur quatre de large.
For only Og king of Bashan had been left of the remnant of the Rephaim; behold, his bedstead [is] a bedstead of iron. Is it not in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? Its length [is] nine cubits and its breadth [is] four cubits, by the cubit of a man.
12 Et nous héritâmes de cette terre en ce temps-là, à partir d'Aroer, qui est sur le bord du torrent d'Arnon: j'ai donné à Ruben et à Gad la moitié de la montagne de Galaad et ses villes.
And this land, [which] we had possessed at that time, from Aroer, which [is] by the Brook of Arnon, and the half of Mount Gilead and its cities, I have given to the Reubenite and to the Gadite;
13 J'ai donné à la demi-tribu de Manassé le reste de Galaad, et tout Basan, royaume de Og, et tout le territoire d'Argob, toute cette partie de Basan; cette terre est réputée terre de Raphaïm.
and the rest of Gilead and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I have given to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan—it is called the land of [the] Rephaim.
14 Jair, fils de Manassé, a pris tous les alentours d'Argob jusqu'aux confins de Gessari et de Machathi, et il leur a donné, d'après son nom, le nom de Thanoth-Jaïr, que porte aujourd'hui le royaume de Basan.
Jair son of Manasseh has taken all the region of Argob, as far as the border of Geshuri and Maachathi ([namely] Bashan), and calls them by his own name, Havoth-Jair, to this day.
15 Et j'ai donné Galaad à Machir.
And I have given Gilead to Machir.
16 A Ruben et à Gad, j'ai donné le territoire au-dessous de Galaad, jusqu'au torrent d'Arnon; ils ont pour limite, de ce côté, le milieu du torrent, et ils s'étendent jusqu'à Jaboc; le torrent les sépare des fils d'Ammon.
And to the Reubenite and to the Gadite I have given from Gilead even to the Brook of Arnon, the middle of the valley and the border, even to the Brook of Jabbok, the border of the sons of Ammon,
17 Ils ont en outre Araba; et la limite qui les sépare de Machénéreth est le Jourdain, jusqu'à la mer d'Araba ou mer Salée, sous Asedoth ou Phasga, du coté de l'orient;
and the plain, and the Jordan, and the border, from Chinnereth even to the Sea of the Plain (the Salt Sea), under the Springs of Pisgah, at the [sun]-rising.
18 Or, en ce temps, je vous dis: Le Seigneur notre Dieu vous a donné cette terre en partage; mais que vos hommes forts prennent les armes, qu'ils marchent à l'avant-garde de vos frères, fils d'Israël;
And at that time I command you, saying, Your God YHWH has given this land to you to possess it; you pass over armed before your brothers the sons of Israel, all the sons of might.
19 Que vos femmes, vos enfants et votre bétail, que je sais être très- nombreux, demeurent seuls dans les villes que je vous ai données.
Only your wives, and your infants, and your livestock—I have known that you have much livestock—dwell in your cities which I have given to you,
20 Jusqu'à ce que le Seigneur notre Dieu ait établi et fixé vos frères comme vous, et qu'ils se soient pareillement partagé le territoire que le Seigneur notre Dieu leur donne au delà du Jourdain; alors vous reviendrez chacun dans l'héritage que je vous ai distribué.
until YHWH gives rest to your brothers like yourselves, and they also have possessed the land which your God YHWH is giving to them beyond the Jordan; then you have each turned back to his possession which I have given to you.
21 Et en ce temps-là, je dis à Josué: Le peuple a vu de ses yeux comment le Seigneur notre Dieu a traité ces deux rois; c'est ainsi que le Seigneur notre Dieu traitera tous les royaumes contre lesquels tu marcheras de l'autre côté du fleuve.
And I have commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes are seeing all that which your God YHWH has done to these two kings—so YHWH does to all the kingdoms to where you are passing over;
22 N'aie d'eux aucune crainte, parce que le Seigneur notre Dieu combattra pour vous.
do not fear them, for your God YHWH—He is fighting for you.
23 Et, en ce temps-là, je fis au Seigneur cette prière:
And to YHWH I beg for grace at that time, saying,
24 Seigneur Dieu, vous avez commencé à montrer à votre serviteur, votre force, votre puissance, votre main robuste et votre bras très-haut; car quel dieu y a-t-il dans le ciel et sur la terre pour faire ce que vous avez fait, et avec autant de vigueur?
Lord YHWH, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for who [is] a god in the heavens or in earth who does according to Your works and according to Your might?
25 Je passerai donc le fleuve, et je verrai cette bonne terre au delà du Jourdain, cette montagne fertile et l'Anti-Liban?
Please let me pass over and see the good land which [is] beyond the Jordan, this good hill-country, and Lebanon.
26 Mais le Seigneur, à cause de vous, ne me regarda point, il ne m'exauça pas; il me dit: C'est assez, ne continue pas un tel discours.
And YHWH shows Himself angry with me for your sake, and has not listened to me, and YHWH says to me, Enough of you; do not add to speak to Me about this thing anymore;
27 Monte sur la cime du roc, lève les yeux à l'occident, au nord, au midi et à l'orient, vois de tes yeux, mais tu ne passeras pas le Jourdain,
go up [to] the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and see with your eyes, for you do not pass over this Jordan;
28 Donne mes ordres à Josué; fortifie-le, et encourage-le; car c'est lui qui traversera le fleuve devant le peuple; c'est lui qui leur partagera la terre que tu auras vue.
and charge Joshua, and strengthen him, and harden him, for he passes over before this people, and he causes them to inherit the land which you see.
29 Et nous campâmes dans la vallée près du temple de Phégor.
And we dwell in a valley opposite Beth-Peor.”
