Deutéronome 24
1 Si un homme a pris une femme, s'il a cohabité avec elle et s'il arrive qu'elle n'ait point trouvé grâce devant lui, parce qu'il aura remarqué en elle quelque difformité; s'il a écrit à son sujet un acte de divorce, s'il le lui a remis, et s'il l'a expulsée de sa maison;
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass, that if she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some scandalous thing in her, he may write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her away out of his house;
2 Si, étant partie, elle est devenue la femme d'un autre époux;
And she shall depart out of his house; and if she go and become another man's wife;
3 Si ce dernier époux l'a pareillement prise en haine, lui a écrit aussi un acte de divorce et le lui a remis, et s'il vient à mourir,
And the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her away out of his house; or if the latter husband, who took her as his wife, should die:
4 Il ne sera point permis au premier époux qui l'aura congédiée de la reprendre pour femme, après qu'elle aura été souillée; ce serait une abomination devant le Seigneur votre Dieu; gardez-vous de souiller la terre que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous donne pour héritage.
Then shall her former husband, who had sent her away, not be at liberty to take her again to be his wife, after she hath been defiled; for it is abomination before the Lord; and thou shalt not bring sin upon the land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
5 Si un homme a pris femme récemment, il n'ira pas à la guerre, on ne le chargera d'aucune affaire, il restera tranquille à sa maison; pendant un an, il se réjouira de la femme qu'il aura épousée.
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any public business: he shall be free for his house one year, and shall cheer up his wife whom he hath taken.
6 Tu ne prendras pas en nantissement les meules du moulin, ni celle de dessous, ni celle de dessus, car les meules sont le nantissement de la vie.
No man shall take to pledge the nether or the upper millstone; for he taketh a man's life to pledge.
7 Si un homme est convaincu d'avoir volé un de ses frères fils d'Israël, si, après s'être rendu maître de lui, il l'a vendu, il mourra, et tu auras déracine le mal du milieu de vous.
If a man be found stealing any one of his brethren of the children of Israel, and he treateth him as a slave, and selleth him: then shall that thief die; and thou shalt put the evil away from the midst of thee.
8 Garde-toi avec soin de la tache de la lèpre; tu veilleras à suivre en toute chose la règle que prescriront les prêtres lévites; tu veilleras à faire ce que je t'ai ordonné.
Take heed of the plague of leprosy, to observe diligently, and to do according to all that the priests, the Levites, may instruct you; as I have commanded them, so shall ye observe to do.
9 Souviens-toi de ce que le Seigneur ton Dieu a fait à Marie, durant votre voyage au sortir de l'Egypte.
Remember what the Lord thy God did unto Miriam on the journey, at your coming forth out of Egypt.
10 Si ton prochain est ton débiteur, quelle que soit la dette, tu n'entreras pas en sa maison pour y prendre de lui un gage.
When thou dost lend thy brother any thing as a loan, thou shalt not go into his house to take his pledge.
11 Tu te tiendras dehors, et l'homme t'apportera son gage.
In the street shalt thou stand, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out unto thee the pledge into the street.
12 Si l'homme est pauvre, tu ne te remettras pas au lit, ayant son gage.
And if he be a poor man, thou shalt not lie down with his pledge:
13 Tu le lui rendras vers le coucher du soleil; qu'il dorme dans son manteau, et il te bénira, et il attirera sur toi la miséricorde du Seigneur ton Dieu.
Thou shalt punctually deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may lie under his own cover, and bless thee; and unto thee shall it be as righteousness before the Lord thy God.
14 Tu ne feras pas tort de son salaire au pauvre ni à l'indigent, soit de tes frères, soit des prosélytes établis en tes villes.
Thou shalt not withhold the wages of a hired man, of the poor and needy, [whether he be] of thy brethren, or of the strangers that are in thy land within thy gates.
15 Tu lui paieras son salaire le jour même; que le soleil ne se couche pas sur son salaire; car il est pauvre, il ne trouverait rien chez lui, il crierait contre toi au Seigneur, et tu te serais chargé d'un péché.
On the same day shalt thou give him his wages, that the sun may not go down upon it; for he is poor, and his soul longeth for it; so that he may not cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin in thee.
16 Les pères ne mourront pas pour leurs enfants, ni les fils pour leurs pères; chacun mourra à cause de son propre péché.
Fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall children be put to death for the fathers: for his own sin shall every man be put to death.
17 Tu ne feras point dévier la justice au sujet de l'étranger, de l'orphelin, de la veuve; tu ne prendras pas en nantissement le vêtement de la veuve.
Thou shalt not pervert the cause of the stranger, or of the fatherless; and thou shalt not take in pledge the raiment of a widow;
18 Souviens-toi que tu as été esclave en la terre d'Egypte, et que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'en a délivré; c'est pour cela que je te prescris d'observer ces règles.
But thou shalt remember that thou waste a bond-man in Egypt, and that the Lord thy God redeemed thee thence; therefore do I command thee to do this thing.
19 Lorsque tu auras fait la moisson de ton champ, si une javelle a été oubliée dans ton champ, tu n'y retourneras pas pour l'aller prendre; elle sera pour l'étranger, l'orphelin ou la veuve, afin que le Seigneur te bénisse en toutes les œuvres de tes mains.
When thou cuttest down thy harvest in thy field, and forgettest a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go back to fetch it; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be; in order that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hands.
20 Lorsque tu auras fait la récolte de tes olives, tu ne retourneras pas glaner celles que tu aurais oubliées; elles seront pour l'étranger, l'orphelin ou la veuve; souviens-toi que tu as été esclave en la terre d'Egypte et que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'en a délivré; c'est pour cela que je te prescris d'observer ces règles.
When thou beatest thy olive-tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be.
21 Lorsque tu auras vendangé ta vigne, tu ne vendangeras pas derechef pour prendre les grappes que tu aurais oubliées; elles seront pour l'étranger, l'orphelin ou la veuve.
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean the small fruit afterward; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be.
22 Souviens-toi que tu as été esclave en la terre d'Egypte, et que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'en a délivré; c'est pour cela que je te prescris ces règles.
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bond-man in the land of Egypt; therefore do I command thee to do this thing:
