Deutéronome 13

1 S'il s'élève parmi vous un prophète ou un songeur ayant des songes, s'il vous annonce un signe ou un prodige,

“When a prophet or a dreamer of a dream arises in your midst, and he has given a sign or wonder to you,

2 Si le signe ou le prodige dont il aura parlé se fait, et s'il dit: Allons, servons d'autres dieux qui vous sont inconnus,

and the sign and the wonder has come to pass, which he has spoken of to you, saying, Let us go after other gods (which you have not known) and serve them,

3 Vous n'écouterez point ce prophète ou ce songeur; car le Seigneur votre Dieu vous tente, pour savoir si vous l'aimez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.

you do not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer of the dream, for your God YHWH is trying you to know whether you are loving your God YHWH with all your heart and with all your soul;

4 Vous suivrez le Seigneur votre Dieu; vous le craindrez; vous serez dociles à sa parole; vous vous attacherez à lui;

you walk after your God YHWH, and you fear Him, and you keep His commands, and you listen to His voice, and you serve Him, and you cleave to Him.

5 Et ce prophète ou songeur mourra, parce qu'il aura parlé pour t'égarer loin du Seigneur ton Dieu qui t'a fait sortir de la terre d'Egypte, qui t'a délivré de la servitude; il aura parlé pour t'entraîner hors de la voie où le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a prescrit de marcher; vous détruirez parmi vous le mal.

And that prophet or that dreamer of the dream is put to death, for he has spoken apostasy against your God YHWH (who is bringing you out of the land of Egypt, and has ransomed you out of a house of servants), to drive you out of the way in which your God YHWH has commanded you to walk, and you have put away evil from your midst.

6 Et, si ton frère de père ou de mère, si ton fils, ta fille, ta femme qui repose sur ton sein, si l'ami que tu aimes comme ta vie, t'exhortent en secret, disant: Allons, servons d'autres dieux inconnus de tes pères et de toi,

When your brother, son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who [is] as your own soul, moves you in secret, saying, Let us go and serve other gods (which you have not known, you and your fathers,

7 Des dieux des nations qui vous entourent de près ou de loin, d'une extrémité à l'autre de la terre,

of the gods of the peoples who [are] around you, who are near to you, or who are far off from you, from the end of the earth even to the [other] end of the earth),

8 Tu n'y consentiras point, tu ne l'écouteras point; ton œil ne prendra pas en pitié sa faute; tu ne soupireras pas pour lui, tu ne le cacheras point;

you do not consent to him, nor listen to him, nor does your eye have pity on him, nor do you spare, nor do you cover him over.

9 Tu le feras connaître, tu le signaleras; tes mains s'élèveront les premières contre lui pour qu'il périsse; les mains du peuple viendront après.

But you surely kill him; your hand is on him in the first place to put him to death, and the hand of all the people last;

10 Il sera lapidé, il mourra pour avoir cherché à te détourner du Seigneur ton Dieu qui t'a fait sortir de l'Egypte et de la maison de servitude.

and you have stoned him with stones and he has died, for he has sought to drive you away from your God YHWH, who is bringing you out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;

11 Tout Israël en l'apprenant aura crainte, et l'on évitera parmi vous de faire de nouveau un tel mal.

and all Israel hears and fears, and does not add to do like this evil thing in your midst.

12 Et si, en l'une des villes que le Seigneur te donne pour que tu y demeures, tu entends dire par des gens:

When you hear [someone] in one of your cities, which your God YHWH is giving to you to dwell there, saying,

13 Des hommes d'iniquité se sont élevés parmi nous, et ils ont égaré ceux qui habitent notre territoire, et ils ont dit: Allons, et servons des dieux qui vous sont inconnus,

Men, sons of worthlessness, have gone out of your midst, and they force away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods (which you have not known),

14 Tu examineras, tu interrogeras, tu feras de nombreuses enquêtes, et s'il est manifeste que ces hommes ont ainsi parlé, et que cette abomination a eu lieu parmi vous,

then you have inquired, and searched, and asked diligently, and behold, [if] truth, the thing is established; this abomination has been done in your midst—

15 Tu feras périr par le glaive tous ceux qui habitent cette contrée, et vous la déclarerez anathème, elle et tout ce qu'elle renferme.

you surely strike the inhabitants of that city by the mouth of the sword, devoting it and all that [is] in it, even its livestock, by the mouth of the sword.

16 Et tu feras, sur le grand chemin, un monceau de toutes ses dépouilles, et tu livreras aux flammes, devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, la ville et ses dépouilles, et elle sera toujours inhabitée, et on ne la rebâtira plus.

And you gather all its spoil into the midst of its broad place, and have completely burned the city and all its spoil with fire for your God YHWH, and it has been a continuous heap, it is not built anymore;

17 Et rien de ce qui aura été frappé d'anathème ne te restera dans la main, afin que la colère du Seigneur se détourne, qu'il ait pitié de toi, qu'il te fasse miséricorde, et qu'il te multiplie, comme il l'a promis à tes pères,

and nothing from any of that [which is] devoted stays in your hand, so that YHWH turns back from the fierceness of His anger, and has given mercies to you, and loved you, and multiplied you, as He has sworn to your fathers,

18 Si tu es docile à la parole du Seigneur ton Dieu pour mettre en pratique les commandements que je 'intime aujourd'hui, et faire ce qui est bon et agréable devant le Seigneur ton Dieu.

because you listen to the voice of your God YHWH, to keep all his commands which I am commanding you today, to do that which [is] right in the eyes of your God YHWH.”
