Deutéronome 10
1 En ce temps-là le Seigneur me dit: Taille-toi deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, et monte vers moi sur la montagne; tu feras aussi une arche de bois.
“Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Cut two stone tablets like the first ones. And make a wooden chest to put them in. Then [bring the tablets] up to me on this mountain.
2 Et tu graveras, sur les tables, les commandements qui étaient sur celles que tu as brisées, et tu les placeras dans l'arche.
I will write on those tablets the same words that I wrote on the first tablets, the ones that you broke. Then you can put them in the chest.’
3 Et je fis l'arche de bois incorruptible, et je taillai les tables de pierre, semblables aux premières, et je montai sur la montagne, les deux tables dans les deux mains.
“So I made a chest. I used wood from an acacia tree to make it. Then I cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I went up the mountain carrying the tablets.
4 Et le Seigneur écrivit sur les deux tables, conformément à ce qui était écrit la première fois, les dix commandements qu'il avait prononcés devant vous sur la montagne, au milieu du feu, et le Seigneur me les donna.
There Yahweh wrote on the tablets the [same] Ten Commandments [that he had written on the first tablet]. They are the commandments that he told to your ancestors from the middle of the fire on the mountain, when they were gathered [at the bottom of the mountain]. Then Yahweh gave the tablets to me,
5 Et, étant parti, je descendis de la montagne, et je déposai les tables dans l'arche que j'avais faite, et elles y demeurèrent, comme me l'avait prescrit le Seigneur.
and I turned and went down the mountain. Then, just as he had commanded, I put them in the chest that I had made. And they are still there.”
6 Et les fils d'Israël levèrent leur camp de Béroth, qui était aux fils de Jacim, et ils allèrent en Misadaï; c'est là que plus tard Aaron mourut et fut enseveli, et que son fils Eléazar fut consacré prêtre à sa place.
(Then, from the wells that belonged to the people of Jaakan, the Israeli people traveled to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar took his place and became the Supreme Priest.
7 De là, les fils d'Israël partirent pour Gadgad, et de Gadgad pour Etebatha, terre où il y a des torrents d'eau.
From there, the Israelis traveled to Gudgodah, and from there to Jotbathah, which was a place that had many streams.
8 En ce temps-là, le Seigneur désigna la tribu de Lévi pour transporter l'arche du Seigneur, pour se tenir devant le Seigneur, servir et prier en son nom, comme ils l'ont fait jusqu'à ce jour.
At that time, Yahweh (set apart/appointed) the tribe of Levi to carry the chest that contained [the tablets on which were written] the Ten Commandments, and to stand in Yahweh’s presence [in the sacred tent], to offer sacrifices, and to pray for Yahweh to bless [the people. They are still doing those things] at the present time.
9 A cause de cela, les Lévites n'ont point de part ni d'héritage parmi leurs frères; le Seigneur seul est leur héritage, comme il leur a été dit.
That is the reason that the tribe of Levi did not receive any land like the other tribes did. What they received was the work/privilege of being Yahweh’s [priests], which is what he said that they should do.)
10 Et moi, je m'étais tenu sur la montagne quarante jours et quarante nuits; et, en ce temps-là, le Seigneur m'exauça, et il ne persista pas à vous exterminer.
“I stayed on the mountain 40 days and nights, just like I did the first time. [I prayed to] Yahweh, and he (answered my prayers/did what I requested) again and said that he would not destroy your ancestors.
11 Et le Seigneur me dit: Pars, marche à la tête de ce peuple; qu'ils entrent en la terre que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner, et qu'elle soit leur héritage.
Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Continue your journey, going in front of the people, to occupy the land that I vowed your ancestors that I would give to you.’”
12 Et maintenant, Israël, qu'est-ce que le Seigneur ton Dieu te demande, sinon de le craindre, de marcher en toutes ses voies, et de l'aimer, et de prier le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme,
“Now, you Israeli people, [I will tell you] [RHQ] what Yahweh our God requires/demands that you do. He requires you to revere him, to conduct your lives as he wants you to, to love him, and to serve him wholeheartedly [DOU],
13 D'observer les commandements du Seigneur ton Dieu, et les préceptes de justice que je t'intime aujourd'hui, afin que tu sois heureux?
and to obey all of his commandments [DOU] which I am giving to you today for your benefit.
14 C'est au Seigneur ton Dieu que sont le ciel, et le ciel des cieux, et la terre, et tout ce qu'elle renferme.
“Do not forget that Yahweh our God owns even the sky and everything that is in it. He also owns the earth and everything that is on it.
15 Et cependant le Seigneur a choisi vos pères pour les aimer, et après eux il vous a choisis, vous leur postérité, de préférence à toutes les nations, comme il se voit aujourd'hui.
But [in spite of owning all those things], Yahweh loved your ancestors, and from all the people-groups [on the earth] he chose us, their descendants, and we are still his people.
16 Ayez soin de circoncire votre dureté de cœur, gardez-vous de votre entêtement.
So you must stop sinning [MET] and stop being stubborn [IDM]!
17 Car le Seigneur votre Dieu, c'est le Dieu des dieux, le Seigneur des seigneurs, le Dieu grand, fort et redoutable, qui ne fait pas acception des personnes et ne se laisse point gagner par des présents.
Yahweh our God is greater than all gods, and he is greater than all rulers. He is very powerful [DOU] and awesome. He (is impartial/does not do things that favor one (group/person) more than others), and he does not accept bribes.
18 Il fait justice à l'étranger, à l'orphelin et à la veuve; il aime l'étranger, il lui donne des vivres et des vêtements.
He makes sure that orphans and widows are treated fairly. He loves even (foreigners/people from other countries) who live among us Israeli people, and he gives them food and clothes.
19 Vous aimerez aussi l'étranger, car vous étiez étrangers en la terre d'Egypte.
So you must love those foreigners too, because you were once foreigners when you were living in Egypt.
20 Tu craindras le Seigneur ton Dieu, tu le serviras, tu t'attacheras à lui et tu jureras en son nom.
Revere Yahweh our God and worship only him. (Be faithful to/Have a close relationship with) him, and say that he should punish you if you do not do what you promise.
21 Il est ta gloire; il est ton Dieu, lui qui a fait toutes les choses grandes et glorieuses que tes yeux ont vues.
He is the one whom you must praise. He is our God, and we have seen the great and amazing things that he has done for us.
22 Tes pères étaient au nombre de soixante-dix âmes, lorsqu'ils arrivèrent en Egypte; et maintenant le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a fait aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel.
When our ancestors, [Jacob and his family], went down to Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now Yahweh our God has caused us to be as numerous as the stars in the sky.”
