Amos 4

1 Écoutez cette parole, génisses de la Basanite, qui êtes en la montagne de Samarie, vous qui opprimez les pauvres, qui foulez aux pieds les indigents, et qui dites à vos maîtres: Donnez-nous afin que nous buvions.

Listen to this word, you fat cows that are on the mountain of Samaria, you who make false accusations against the destitute and crush the poor, who say to your nobles, “Bring, and we will drink.”

2 Le Seigneur jure par Ses saints que les temps arrivent contre vous, où l'on vous enlèvera avec des armes, et où les hommes de pestilence, enflammés de colère, jetteront ceux qui seront avec vous en des chaudières bouillantes.

The Lord God has sworn in his holiness: behold, the days that will overcome you and that will impale you on poles, and that will place what remains of you in boiling pots.

3 Et vous, vous serez entraînées nues, les unes devant les autres, et vous serez précipitées en la montagne de Rhomman, dit le Seigneur.

And you will go out through the breaches, one over another, and you will be cast out into Harmon, says the Lord.

4 Vous êtes entrés à Béthel, et vous avez péché, et vous avez multiplié vos impiétés en Galgala; dès le matin, vous avez offert vos oblations, et donné vos dîmes durant les trois jours.

Come to Bethel and behave impiously, to Gilgal and increase betrayals. And bring daybreak to your victims, your tithes in three days.

5 Et ils ont lu la loi au dehors; et ils ont fait des invocations à haute voix. publiez que les fils d'Israël ont aimé ces choses, dit le Seigneur.

And offer a sacrifice of praise with leaven. And call for voluntary oblations, and announce it. For such is your will, sons of Israel, says the Lord God.

6 Et Moi, en toutes vos villes, Je vous ferai grincer des dents; il y aura disette de pain en toutes vos maisons, et vous ne vous êtes point convertis à Moi, dit le Seigneur.

Therefore, because of this, I have given you dull teeth in every one of your cities, and a lack of bread in all your places. And you have not been turned back towards me, says the Lord.

7 Et Moi, Je vous ai refusé la pluie, trois mois avant la vendange; Je ferai pleuvoir sur telle ville; sur telle autre, Je ne ferai point pleuvoir; sur tel terrain, il pleuvra; et tel autre, où il n'aura pas plu, sera desséché.

Therefore, I have withheld the rains from you, when there were still three months left until the harvest. And I rained on one city, and I did not rain on another city; one part was rained on, and the part on which I did not rain, dried out.

8 Et les habitants de deux ou trois villes se rassembleront en une seule ville, pour boire de l'eau, et ils ne seront point désaltérés; et vous ne vous êtes point convertis à Moi, dit le Seigneur.

And two and three cities went to one city, in order to drink water, and they were not satisfied. And you did not return to me, says the Lord.

9 Je vous ai frappés de la fièvre et de la jaunisse. Vous avez multipliés vos jardins et vos vignes; mais les chenilles ont dévoré vos plants de figuiers et d'oliviers; et vous ne vous êtes point convertis à Moi, dit le Seigneur.

I struck you with a burning wind and with yellowing; the caterpillar has consumed your many gardens and your vineyards, your olive groves and your fig groves. And you did not return to me, says the Lord.

10 Je vous ai envoyé la mort par les chemins de l'Égypte; J'ai fait tomber vos jeunes gens sous le glaive, et vos chevaux ont été pris; dans Ma colère, J'ai livré vos camps à la flamme; et, même après cela, vous ne vous êtes point convertis à Moi, dit le Seigneur.

I sent death to you by way of Egypt; I struck your youths with the sword, even bringing captivity to your horses. And I made the stench of your camp ascend into your nostrils. And you did not return to me, says the Lord.

11 Je vous ai renversés, comme Dieu renversa Sodome et Gomorrhe, et vous êtes devenus semblables au tison que l'on retire du foyer; et, même après cela, vous ne vous êtes point convertis à Moi, dit le Seigneur.

I overturned you, just as God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah, and you became like an ember seized from the fire. And you did not return to me, says the Lord.

12 Et c'est pourquoi J'agirai ainsi envers toi, ô Israël; et parce que J'agirai ainsi, prépare-toi à invoquer ton Dieu, ô Israël.

Because of this, I will do these things to you, Israel. But after I have done these things to you, Israel, be prepared to meet your God.

13 Car Me voici, Moi qui affermis le tonnerre, qui fais naître les vents, qui annonce aux hommes Mon Christ, qui fais l'aurore et la brume, qui monte sur les hauts lieux de la terre. Le Seigneur tout-puissant, voilà Mon Nom.

For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind and announces his speech to man, who makes the morning mist and steps over the heights of the earth: the Lord God of hosts is his name.
