2 Samuel 4

1 Quand Isboseth, fils de Saül, apprit qu'Abner, fils de Ner, était mort à Hébron, ses bras en furent énervés, et tous les hommes d'Israël défaillirent.

And when Sauls sonne heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, then his handes were feeble, and all Israel was afraide,

2 Or, il y avait deux chefs des troupes d'Isboseth, fils de Saül: l'un se nommait Baana, et l'autre Rhéchab; ils étaient fils de Rhemmon, de Bèroth de la tribu de Benjamin; car Bèroth était comptée parmi les villes de Benjamin.

And Sauls sonne had two men that were captaines of bandes: the one called Baanah, and the other called Rechab, the sonnes of Rimmon a Beerothite of the children of Beniamin. (for Beeroth was reckened to Beniamin,

Because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and soiourned there, vnto this day).

4 Il restait de Jonathan, fils de Saül, un fils de cinq ans, infirme des pieds; car, lorsqu'on vint de Jezraël annoncer que Saül et Jonathan étaient morts, la nourrice de cet enfant le prit dans ses bras et s'enfuit. En se hâtant de l'éloigner, elle le laissa tomber, et il resta boiteux; il se nommait Miphiboseth.

And Ionathan Sauls sonne had a sonne that was lame on his feete: he was fiue yere olde when the tydings came of Saul and Ionathan out of Israel: then his nourse tooke him, and fledde away. And as she made haste to flee, the childe fell, and beganne to halte, and his name was Mephibosheth.

5 Et les fils de Rhemmon le Bérothéen, Rhéchab et Baana partirent; et, par la grande chaleur du jour, ils entrèrent chez Isboseth, comme il dormait sur un lit de repos, à l'heure de midi.

And the sonnes of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah went and came in the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth (who slept on a bed at noone)

6 Le gardien de la porte avait vanné du froment, sa tête s'était affaissée, et il s'était endormi; Rhéchab et Baana poussèrent donc plus avant.

And beholde, Rechab and Baanah his brother came into the middes of the house as they would haue wheate, and they smote him vnder the fift ryb, and fled.

7 Ils pénètrent dans la maison où Isboseth dormait sur son lit de repos, en sa chambre à coucher; ils le frappent, le tuent, lui tranchent la tête, qu'ils emportent, et marchent toute la nuit du côté de l'occident.

For when they came into the house, he slept on his bed in his bed chamber, and they smote him, and slewe him, and beheaded him, and tooke his head, and gate them away through the plaine all the night.

8 Et ils portèrent à David, en Hébron, la tète d'Isboseth, et ils dirent au roi: Voici la tête d'Isboseth, fils de Saül, ton ennemi, qui te cherchait pour te faire périr; le Seigneur a achevé aujourd'hui de venger, de Saül et de sa race, le seigneur roi.

And they brought the head of Ish-bosheth vnto Dauid to Hebron, and saide to the King, Beholde the head of Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne thine enemie, who sought after thy life: and the Lord hath auenged my lorde the King this day of Saul, and of his seede.

9 Et David répondit à Rhéchab et à Baana son frère, fils de Rhemmon le Bérothéen, et il leur dit: Vive le Seigneur! le sauveur de mon âme en toutes ses afflictions,

Then Dauid answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sonnes of Rimmon the Beerothite, and saide vnto them, As the Lord liueth, who hath deliuered my soule out of al aduersity,

10 Celui qui est venu m'annoncer la mort de Saül, et qui croyait m'apporter une bonne nouvelle, je l'ai saisi et l'ai fait mourir en Sécelac, où il s'attendait à recevoir une récompense.

When one tolde me, and sayde that Saul was dead, (thinking to haue brought good tydings) I tooke him and slewe him in Ziklag, who thought that I woulde haue giuen him a rewarde for his tidings:

11 Et maintenant, de méchants hommes ont tué un homme juste, dans sa maison, sur sa couche. Certes, je vous demanderai compte du sang que votre main a versé, et je vous effacerai de la terre.

How much more, when wicked men haue slaine a righteous person in his owne house, and vpon his bed? shall I not now therfore require his blood at your hand, and take you from the earth?

12 David donna donc ses ordres à ses serviteurs, et ils les tuèrent; puis, ils leurs coupèrent les mains et les pieds, et les pendirent vers la fontaine d'Hébron, et ils inhumèrent la tête d'Isboseth dans le sépulcre d'Abner, fils de Ner.

Then Dauid commanded his yong men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feete, and hanged them vp ouer the poole in Hebron: but they tooke the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
