1 Voici les dernières paroles de David, du fidèle David, fils de Jessé, de l'homme fidèle que le Seigneur a suscité pour être le christ du Dieu de Jacob, et dont les psaumes ont été agréables au Seigneur.

And these [are] the last words of David: “A declaration of David son of Jesse, And a declaration of the man raised up—Concerning the anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweetness of the songs of Israel:

2 L'Esprit du Seigneur m'a parlé, sa parole est sur ma langue.

The Spirit of YHWH has spoken by me, And His word [is] on my tongue.

3 Le Dieu d'Israël parle. Le gardien d'Israël me propose une parabole: J'ai fait, dit-il, cette question aux hommes: Comment vous affermirez-vous dans la crainte de l'oint du Seigneur?

He said—the God of Israel—to me, He spoke—the Rock of Israel: He who is ruling over man [is] righteous, He is ruling in the fear of God.

4 Qu'au sein de la lumière matinale de Dieu, ajoute-t-il, l'on voie se lever le soleil. La splendeur du Seigneur ne s'efface point; elle naît comme l'herbe des champs naît de la pluie.

And he rises as the light of morning, A morning sun [with] no clouds! By the shining, by the rain, Tender grass of the earth!

5 Ainsi n'est point ma maison devant le Tout-Puissant; mais il a fait avec moi une alliance perpétuelle, toujours efficace, et, en tout temps, observée; et c'est là tout mon salut; tout mon désir est en elle, et les méchants ne fleuriront pas.

For though my house [is] not so with God; So He made a perpetual covenant with me, Arranged in all things, and kept; For all my salvation, and all desire, For He has not caused [it] to spring up.

6 Tous sont comme l'épine méprisée que l'on ne prend pas avec la main.

As for the worthless—All of them [are] driven away as a thorn, For they are not taken away by hand;

7 L'homme ne se fatiguera pas à son sujet. On y emploiera le fer et le bois de la lance, et elle sera brûlée; eux aussi seront brûlés dans leur opprobre.

And the man who comes against them Is filled with iron and the staff of a spear, And they are utterly burned with fire In the cessation.”

8 Voici les noms des hommes vaillants de David: Isboseth le Chananéen, chef de la première triade; Adinon l'Asonien, qui, un jour, tira l'épée contre huit cents hommes à la fois.

These [are] the names of the mighty ones whom David has: sitting in the seat [is] the Tachmonite, head of the captains—he [is] Adino, who hardened himself against eight hundred—wounded at one time.

9 Après lui, Eléanan, fils de son oncle paternel, fils de Dudi, de l'un des trois vaillants qui accompagnaient David. Un jour, Dudi insulta les Philistins; ils se réunirent pour livrer bataille, Israël s'avança.

And after him [is] Eleazar son of Dodo, son of Ahohi, of the three mighty men with David; in their exposing themselves among the Philistines—they have been gathered there to battle, and the men of Israel go up—

10 Et lui se leva, et tailla en pièces les Philistins jusqu'à ce que sa main fût fatiguée; et sa main ne put se détacher de son glaive. Et le Seigneur, ce jour-là, sauva son peuple d'un grand péril; l'armée revint vers Dudi, et elle n'eut plus qu'à dépouiller les morts.

he has arisen, and strikes among the Philistines until his hand has been weary, and his hand cleaves to the sword, and YHWH works a great salvation on that day, and the people turn back after him only to strip off.

11 Après Eléanan, Samaïa, fils d'Asa, l'Aruchéen. Les Philistins s'étaient rassemblés dans Théria; et il y avait là un champ de lentilles, et devant eux l'armée d'Israël s'était enfuie.

And after him [is] Shammah son of Agee the Hararite, and the Philistines are gathered into a company, and there is a portion of the field full of lentils there, and the people have fled from the presence of the Philistines,

12 Et il demeura comme une colonne au milieu du champ, et il le reprit, et il tailla en pièces les Philistins. Et le Seigneur sauva son peuple d'un grand péril.

and he stations himself in the midst of the portion, and delivers it, and strikes the Philistines, and YHWH works a great salvation.

13 Les trois premiers des trente avaient rejoint jadis en Cason David à la caverne d'Odollam, et les Philistins en armes étaient campés dans le val des Géants.

And three of the thirty heads go down and come to the harvest, to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the company of the Philistines are encamping in the Valley of Rephaim,

14 David se tenait dans sa forteresse, et les Philistins avaient un poste à Bethléem.

and David [is] then in a fortress, and the station of the Philistines [is] then in Beth-Lehem,

15 Et David eut un désir, et il dit: Qui m'apportera à boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est sous la porte de Bethléem? Or, en ce temps-là, le gros des Philistins était à Bethléem.

and David longs and says, “Who gives me a drink of the water of the well of Beth-Lehem, which [is] by the gate?”

16 Aussitôt, les trois vaillants s'ouvrirent un passage à travers le camp des Philistins, et ils puisèrent de l'eau dans la citerne sous la porte de Bethléem, et ils l'emportèrent, et ils la présentèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation au Seigneur.

And the three mighty ones cleave through the camp of the Philistines, and draw water out of the well of Beth-Lehem, which [is] by the gate, and take [it] up, and bring [it] to David; and he was not willing to drink it, and pours it out to YHWH,

17 Et il dit: Dieu me préserve d'en rien faire; je croirais boire le sang des hommes qui ont exposé leur vie. Et il ne voulut point boire. Voilà ce qu'avaient fait les trois vaillants.

and says, “Far be it from me, O YHWH, to do this; is it the blood of the men who are going with their lives?” And he was not willing to drink it; the three mighty ones did these [things].

18 Il y avait encore Abessa, frère de Joab, fils de Sarvia, chef d'une seconde triade; seul, il avait levé sa javeline contre trois cents qui périrent; et il s'était fait un nom parmi les trois.

And Abishai brother of Joab, son of Zeruiah, he [is] head of three, and he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, and he has a name among three.

19 Et, dans sa triade, il fut illustre, et il en devint le chef; mais il n'alla pas si loin que ceux de la première triade.

Is he not the honored of the three? And he becomes their head; and he has not come to the [first] three.

20 Et il y avait Banaïas de Cabeséel, fils de Joad, homme distingué aussi par ses actions; seul, il tua deux fils d'Ariel de Moab; ce fut lui qui descendit dans une citerne, un jour de neige, et qui y tua un lion.

And Benaiah son of Jehoiada (son of a man of valor, great in deeds from Kabzeel), has struck two lion-like men of Moab, and he has gone down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit in a day of snow.

21 Il tua encore un Égyptien de grande taille, et l'Égyptien tenait une javeline haute comme une échelle; il l'attaqua n'ayant qu'un bâton; il la lui arracha, et s'en servit pour le tuer.

And he has struck the Egyptian man, a man of appearance, and a spear [is] in the hand of the Egyptian, and he goes down to him with a rod, and takes the spear violently away out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slays him with his own spear.

22 Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, et il avait un nom dans la seconde triade.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada has done these [things], and has a name among the three mighty ones.

23 Et, dans sa triade, il fut illustre; mais il n'alla pas si loin que ceux de la première triade. David le fit son conseiller. Voici les noms des autres hommes vaillants du roi David:

He is honored more than the thirty, but he did not come to the three; and David sets him over his guard.

24 Asaël, frère de Joab, l'un des trente; Eléanan, fils de Dudi, de Bethléem, oncle paternel du premier.

Asahel brother of Joab [is] of the thirty; Elhanan son of Dodo of Beth-Lehem,

25 Séma le Rhudéen;

Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 Sellès le Celothi; Iras, fils d'Isca, de Thecoé;

Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 Abiézer l'Anothite, des fils de l'Anothite;

Abiezer the Annethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 Ellon l'Aoïte; Noré le Netophatite;

Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 Esthai, fils de Riba, de Gabaeth; Ephratéen, fils de Benjamin; Asmoth le Bardiamite;
