2 Samuel 17
1 Et Achitophel dit à Absalon: Je vais choisir douze mille hommes, et je partirai, et je poursuivrai David cette nuit.
Therfor Achitofel seide to Absolon, Y schal chese twelue thousynde of men `to me, and Y schal rise, and pursue Dauid in this nyyt.
2 Il sera fatigué, énervé, quand je l'attaquerai et le remplirai de trouble; tout le peuple qui l'entoure fuira, et je frapperai le roi dès qu'il sera seul.
And Y schal falle on hym, for he is wery, and with vnboundun hondis Y schal smyte hym. And whanne al the puple fleeth which is with hym, Y schal smyte the kyng `desolat, ether left aloone.
3 Ensuite, je te ramènerai tout le peuple, et il te reviendra comme revient une épouse auprès de son mari; puisque tu n'en veux qu'à la vie d'un seul homme, tout le peuple sera en paix.
And Y schal lede ayen al the puple, as o man is wont to turne ayen; for thou sekist o man, and al the puple schal be in pees.
4 Le conseil parut excellent à Absalon et à tous les anciens d'Israël.
And the word of him plesyde Absolon, and alle the grete men in birthe of Israel.
5 Et Absalon dit: Appelez Chusaï d'Arach; sachons ce que celui-là aussi pourra nous dire.
Forsothe Absolon seide, Clepe ye also Chusy of Arath, and here we what also he seith.
6 Chusaï entra donc auprès d'Absalon, et Absalon lui dit: Voici comme a parlé Achitophel; ferons-nous ce qu'il a conseillé? Si ce n'est pas ton avis, parle à ton tour.
And whanne Chusi hadde come to Absolon, Absolon seide to hym. Achitofel spak siche a word; owen we do, ethir nay? what counsel yyuest thou?
7 Pour cette fois, répondit Chusaï, le conseil d'Achitophel n'est pas bon.
And Chusi seide to Absolon, This is not good counsel, which Achitofel yaf in this tyme.
8 Et Chusaï ajouta: Tu connais ton père et ses hommes; ils sont très vaillants, et leur âme est pleine d'amertume. Ils ressemblent à l'ours à qui, dans les champs, on a enlevé ses petits, ou au sanglier hérissé de la plaine; ton père est un guerrier, et il ne laisse pas son armée prendre de repos.
And eft Chusi seide, Thou knowist, that thi fadir, and the men that ben with him, ben moost stronge, and in bitter soule, as if a femal bere is fers in the forest, whanne the whelpis ben rauyschid; but also thi fader is a man werriour, and he schal not dwelle with the puple.
9 Maintenant, il est à couvert dans les montagnes ou dans quelque autre lieu, et vous ne l'aurez pas plutôt assailli qu'un bruit se répandra, et que l'on dira: Il y a eu un massacre de ceux qui suivent Absalon.
In hap now he is hid in the dichis, ethir in o place, in which he wole; and whanne ony man fallith in the bigynnyng, who euer schal here, he schal here, and schal seie, Wounde is maad in the puple that suede Absolon.
10 Et même le fils de la vaillance, dont le cœur est comme le cœur du lion, défaillira; car tout Israël sait que ton père est un homme vaillant, et qu'il est entouré de fils vaillants.
And ech strongeste man, whos herte is as `the herte of a lioun, schal be discoumfortid for drede; for al the puple of Israel knowith, that thi fadir is strong, and that alle men ben stronge, that ben with him.
11 C'est pourquoi voici ce que je préfère de beaucoup: rassemble auprès de toi tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée, aussi nombreux que le sable du rivage de la mer; et mets-toi en campagne au milieu de, cette multitude.
But this semeth to me to be riytful counsel; al Israel be gaderid to thee, fro Dan `til to Bersabee, vnnoumbrable as the soond of the see; and thou schalt be in the myddis of hem.
12 Alors, nous marcherons contre lui en l'un des lieux où nous pensons le trouver; nous tomberons sur lui à l'improviste, comme la rosée tombe sur la terre, et nous n'épargnerons ni lui ni un seul des hommes qui l'accompagnent.
And we schulen falle on hym, in what euer place he is foundun, and we schulen hile hym, as dew is wont to falle on the erthe; and we schulen not leeue of the men that ben with hym, `sotheli not oon.
13 Et s'il s'est réfugié avec ses gens en quelque ville, tout Israël apportera des câbles devant cette ville, et nous en entraînerons les débris jusqu'au torrent, afin qu'il n'en reste pas une pierre.
`That if he entrith in to ony citee, al Israel schal cumpasse that citee with roopis, and we schulen drawe it in to the stronde, that no thing be foundun, sotheli not a litil stoon therof.
14 Absalon et tout Israël s'écrièrent: Le conseil de Chusaï d'Arach vaut mieux que le conseil d'Achitophel. Et le Seigneur voulut que le sage dessein d'Achitophel fût confondu, afin que le Seigneur fit tomber sur Absalon toute sorte de maux.
And Absolon seide, and alle the men of Israel, The counsel of Chusi of Arath is betere than the counsel of Achitofel; sotheli the profitable counsel of Achitofel was destried bi Goddis wille, that the Lord schulde brynge in yuel on Absolon.
15 Et Chusaï d'Arach dit aux prêtres Sadoc et Abiathar: Voilà ce qu'avait conseillé Achitophel à Absalon et aux anciens du peuple; voilà ce que je leur ai conseillé.
And Chusi seide to Sadoch and to Abiathar, preestis, Achitofel yaf counsel to Absolon, and to the eldere men of Israel in this and this maner, and Y yaf sich and sich counsel.
16 Maintenant, faites-le rapidement savoir à David; qu'on lui dise: Ne passe pas la nuit à Araboth dans le désert; hâte-toi de traverser le Jourdain, de peur que le roi et tous les siens ne périssent.
Now therfor sende ye soone, and telle ye to Dauid, and seie ye, Dwelle thou not this nyyt in the feeldi places of deseert, but passe thou with out delay; lest perauenture the kyng be destried, and al the puple which is with hym.
17 Or, Jonathan et Achimaas étaient restés vers la fontaine de Rhogel; une servante y courut et leur transmit le message; eux-mêmes partirent pour le porter au roi David; car il n'était pas possible qu'on les eût vus entrer dans Jérusalem.
Forsothe Jonathas and Achymaas stoden bisidis the welle of Rogel; an handmaide yede, and telde to hem, and thei yeden forth to telle the message to kyng Dauid; for thei myyten not be seyn, nether entre in to the citee.
18 Mais un jeune serviteur les vit en marche, et il l'alla rapporter à Absalon. Cependant, ils s'étaient hâtés, et ils étaient déjà dans la maison d'un homme de Bahurim, qui avait dans sa cour une citerne, où ils descendirent.
Forsothe a child siy hem, and he schewide to Absolon; sotheli thei entriden with swift goyng in to the hows of `sum man in Bahurym, that hadde a pit in his place, and thei yeden doun in to that pit.
19 Alors, la femme de cet homme étendit une couverture sur l'orifice de la citerne; elle y mit sécher du blé, et la chose ne fut point découverte.
Forsothe a womman took, and spred abrood an hilyng of the mouth of the pit as driynge `barli with the pile takun a wey, and so the thing was hid.
20 Les serviteurs d'Absalon vinrent dans la maison vers la femme, et ils lui dirent Où sont Achimaas et Jonathan? Elle répondit: Ils ont passé un peu au delà du torrent. Et les serviteurs cherchèrent; et, ne les ayant pas trouvés, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem.
And whanne the seruauntis of Absolon hadde come in to the hows, thei seiden to the womman, Where is Achymaas and Jonathas? And the womman answeride to hem, Thei passiden hastily, whanne `watir was tastid a litil. And whanne thei that souyten hem hadden not founde, thei turneden ayen in to Jerusalem.
21 Lorsqu'ils se furent éloignés, les deux jeunes gens sortirent de leur citerne, s'en allèrent, et dirent tout à David; puis, ils ajoutèrent: Hâte- toi de traverser le fleuve, car voici le conseil qu'a donné contre toi Achitophel.
And whanne thei `that souyten hadden go, thei stieden fro the pit; and thei yeden, and telden to kyng Dauid, and seiden, Rise ye, passe ye soone the flood, for Achitofel yaf sich counsel ayens you.
22 David se leva, ainsi que tout le peuple qui l'accompagnait; ils passèrent le Jourdain jusqu'au lever de l'aurore, et il n'y eut pas un seul des siens qui restât en deçà du fleuve.
Therfor Dauid roos, and al the puple that was with hym, and thei passiden Jordan, til it was cleer dai, bifor that the word was pupplischid; and sotheli not oon was left, that `passide not the flood.
23 Quand Achitophel vit que son conseil n'était pas suivi, il bâta son ânesse, retourna en sa demeure dans sa ville, donna des instructions à sa famille, se pendit, et mourut; on l'ensevelit dans le sépulcre de son père.
Forsothe Achitofel siy, that his counsel was not doon, and he sadlide his asse, and roos, and yede in to his hows, and in to his citee; and whanne his hows was disposid, he perischide bi hangyng, and he was biried in the sepulcre of his fadir.
24 Cependant, David passa en Manaïm, et Absalon franchit à son tour le Jourdain avec tout Israël.
Sotheli Dauid cam in to the castels, and Absolon passide Jordan, he and alle the men of Israel with hym.
25 Et Absalon mit à la tête de l'armée, à la place de Joab, Amessaï, fils d'un homme qui se nommait Jéther le Jezraélite; celui-ci l'avait eu d'Abigail, fille de Naas, sœur de Sarvia, mère de Joab.
Forsothe Absolon ordeynede Amasan for Joab on the oost; forsothe Amasan was the sone of a man that was clepid Jethra of Jeyrael, which entride to Abigail, douyter of Naas, the sistir of Saruye, that was the modir of Joab.
26 Or, tout Israël et Absalon campèrent en la terre de Galaad.
And Israel settide tentis with Absolon in the lond of Galaad.
27 Lorsque David était arrivé en Manaïm, Uesbi, fils de Naas, de Rhabbath, ville des fils d'Aramon, Machis, fils d'Amiel de Ladabar, et Berzelli le Galaadite, de Rhogellim,
And whanne Dauid hadde come in to castels, Sobi, the sone of Naas of Rabath, of the sones of Amon, and Machir, the sone of Amyel, of Lodobar, and Berzellai, of Galaad,
28 Lui apportèrent dix tapis laineux des deux côtés, dix marmites, des vases d'argile, du froment, de l'orge, de la pâte, de la farine, des fèves, des lentilles,
of Rogelym, brouyten to hym beddyngis, and tapitis, and erthun vessels, wheete, and barli, and mele, and flour, and benys, and lente, and fried chichis, and hony,
29 Du miel, du beurre, des moutons et du fromage de vache; ils offrirent tout cela à David et au peuple qui l'accompagnait; car ils s'étaient dit: Ce peuple a faim, il est exténué et il souffre de la soif dans le désert.
and botere, and scheep, and fatte calues. And thei yauen to Dauid, and to the puple that weren with hym, to ete; for thei supposiden the puple to be maad feynt for hungur and thirst in deseert.
