2 Samuel 14

1 Et Joab, fils de Sarvia, reconnut que le cœur de David revenait à Absalon.

Then Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah perceyued, that the Kings heart was toward Absalom,

2 Et il fit venir de Thécoé une femme expérimentée, à qui il dit: Pleure, prends des habits de deuil, ne te parfume pas, sois comme une femme qui, depuis bien des jours, se lamente sur un mort.

And Ioab sent to Tekoah, and brought thence a subtile woman, and sayd vnto her, I pray thee, fayne thy selfe to mourne, and nowe put on mourning apparel, and anoynt not thy selfe with oyle: but be as a woman that had now long time mourned for the dead.

3 Tu iras ainsi trouver le roi, et tu lui parleras comme je vais te dire. Et Joab mit les paroles sur les lèvres de la femme.

And come to the King, and speake on this maner vnto him, (for Ioab taught her what she should say).

4 La lemme de Thécoé entra donc chez le roi; elle tomba la face contre terre, et elle l'adora, s'écriant: Salut, roi, salut.

Then the woman of Tekoah spake vnto the king, and fel downe on her face to the ground, and did obeysance, and sayd, Helpe, O King.

5 Le roi lui dit: Que veux-tu? Elle répondit: Je suis une veuve, mon mari est mort.

Then the King sayd vnto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am in deede a widow, and mine husband is dead:

6 Et ta servante avait deux fils; or, ils se sont battus dans les champs; il n'y avait là personne pour les séparer; l'un des deux a renversé son frère, et l'a tué.

And thine handmayd had two sonnes, and they two stroue together in the fielde: (and there was none to part them) so the one smote the other, and slew him.

7 Et voilà que toute la famille s'élève contre ta servante, disant: Livre- nous celui qui a frappé son frère; nous lui ôterons la vie pour la vie de son frère qu'il a tué, et nous prendrons votre héritage. Ainsi, ils veulent éteindre l'étincelle qui me reste, afin qu'il n'y ait plus rien, sur la face de la terre, ni de mon mari, ni de son nom.

And beholde, the whole familie is risen against thine handmayde, and they sayde, Deliuer him that smote his brother, that we may kill him for the soule of his brother whome hee slewe, that we may destroy the heire also: so they shall quenche my sparkle which is left, and shall not leaue to mine husband neither name nor posteritie vpon the earth.

8 Et le roi dit à la femme: Porte-toi bien; va en ta demeure; je donnerai des ordres à ton sujet.

And the King said vnto the woman, Go to thine house, and I wil giue a charge for thee.

9 Et la femme de Thécoé dit à David: Que l'iniquité, ô roi, mon maître, retombe sur moi et sur la maison de mon père, que le roi et son trône en soient innocents.

Then the woman of Tekoah said vnto the King, My lord, O King, this trespas be on me, and on my fathers house, and the King and his throne be giltlesse.

10 Le roi reprit: Quel est donc celui de ta famille qui t'a parlé? Amène- le-moi, et il ne touchera pas à ton fils.

And the King sayde, Bring him to me that speaketh against thee, and he shall touche thee no more.

11 A quoi la femme répondit: Que le roi, n'oublie point que le Seigneur son Dieu a désigné plus d'un vengeur du sang pour faire périr le meurtrier; veille à ce qu'on ne vienne pas m'enlever mon fils. Et David répondit: Vive le Seigneur! on ne lui fera pas tomber un cheveu de la tête.

Then said she, I pray thee, let the King remember the Lord thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer many reuengers of blood to destroy, lest they slay my sonne. And he answered, As the Lord liueth, there shall not one heare of thy sonne fall to the earth.

12 Alors, la femme ajouta: Que ta servante dise encore un mot au roi mon maître; et il répondit: Parle.

Then the woman said, I pray thee, let thine handmayde speake a worde to my lord the King. And he sayd, Say on.

13 Et la femme dit: Pourquoi donc as-tu cette pensée contre le peuple de Dieu? Ou cette parole de la bouche du roi est-elle comme un serment, pour que le roi n'ait pas encore rappelé celui qu'il a banni?

Then the woman sayde, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? or why doeth the King, as one which is faultie, speake this thing, that he will not bring againe his banished?

14 Nous mourrons tous de mort, nous serons comme l'eau qui s'écoule sur la terre et ne revient plus; Dieu prendra notre âme, et le roi a encore la pensée de repousser au loin celui qu'il a banni!

For we must needes dye, and we are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered vp againe: neither doeth God spare any person, yet doeth he appoynt meanes, not to cast out from him, him that is expelled.

15 Maintenant que je suis venue dire cette parole au roi mon maître, le peuple me verra, et ta servante a dit: Qu'il soit parlé au roi mon maître, peut-être fera-t-il ce que dit sa servante;

Nowe therefore that I am come to speake of this thing vnto my lord the King, the cause is that the people haue made me afrayd: therefore thine handmayde sayd, Nowe will I speake vnto the King: it may be that the King will perfourme the request of his handmayde.

16 Car le roi l'entendra. Qu'il protège sa servante contre l'homme qui veut dépouiller moi et mon fils de notre part dans l'héritage de Dieu.

For the King wil heare, to deliuer his handmayde out of the hande of the man that woulde destroy mee, and also my sonne from the inheritance of God.

17 Et la femme ajouta: Le roi mon maître, comme un ange de Dieu, écoute le bon et le méchant; puisse donc la promesse qu'il m'a faite s'exécuter comme un sacrifice que l'on a voué. et le Seigneur ton Dieu sera avec toi.

Therefore thine handmaid sayd, The word of my lord the King shall now be comfortable: for my lorde the King is euen as an Angel of God in hearing of good and bad: therefore the Lord thy God be with thee.

18 Le roi reprit et il dit à la femme: Ne me cache rien de ce que je vais te demander, et la femme répondit: Que le roi mon maître parle.

Then the King answered, and said vnto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall aske thee. And the woman sayde, Let my lord the King now speake.

19 Et le roi dit: La main de Joab n'est-elle pas avec toi, en tout ceci? La femme répondit: Vive ton âme! ô roi mon maître, il n'y a pas à s'écarter à droite ni à gauche de ce que vient de dire le roi mon maître, car c'est ton serviteur Joab qui m'a donné ses ordres, et c'est lui qui a mis toutes ces paroles sur les lèvres de ta servante.

And the King said, Is not the hand of Ioab with thee in all this? Then the woman answered, and sayd, As thy soule liueth, my lord the King, I will not turne to the right hande nor to the left, from ought that my lorde the King hath spoken: for euen thy seruant Ioab bade mee, and he put all these wordes in the mouth of thine handmayde.

20 C'est pour ne point aborder de front une telle affaire, que Joab ton serviteur a pris ce détour. Mais, mon seigneur est sage, il a la sagesse de l'ange de Dieu pour discerner toute chose sur la terre.

For to the intent that I should chage the forme of speach, thy seruant Ioab hath done this thing: but my lord is wise according to the wisdome of an Angel of God to vnderstande all things that are in the earth.

21 Et le roi dit à Joab: Voilà que j'ai fait pour toi comme tu avais dit; pars et ramène mon fils Absalon.

And the King sayde vnto Ioab, Beholde nowe, I haue done this thing: go then, and bring the yong man Absalom againe.

22 Et Joab tomba la face contre terre; il adora et bénit le roi. Puis, il dit: Aujourd'hui ton serviteur reconnaît qu'il a trouvé grâce devant tes yeux, ô roi mon maître, puisque tu as fait comme ton serviteur avait dit.

And Ioab fell to the grounde on his face, and bowed himselfe, and thanked the King. Then Ioab sayde, This day thy seruant knoweth, that I haue found grace in thy sight, my lord the King, in that the King hath fulfilled the request of his seruant.

23 Joab se releva, il alla à Gedsur, et il amena Absalon à Jérusalem.

And Ioab arose, and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Ierusalem.

24 Mais le roi dît: Qu'il retourne en sa demeure; qu'il ne voie point ma face. Absalon retourna donc en sa demeure, et il ne vit point la face du roi.

And the King sayde, Let him turne to his owne house, and not see my face. So Absalom turned to his owne house, and saw not the Kings face.

25 Or, il n'y avait pas en tout Israël d'homme loué comme Absalon; depuis la plante des pieds jusqu'au sommet de la tête, il n'avait pas un défaut.

Nowe in all Israel there was none to be so much praysed for beautie as Absalom: from the sole of his foote euen to the toppe of his head there was no blemish in him.

26 Lorsqu'il se coupait les cheveux, et il se les coupait au commencement de chaque année, parce qu'il était incommodé de leur poids, il en recueillait deux cents sicles pesant, au poids du sicle royal.

And when he polled his head, (for at euery yeeres ende he polled it: because it was too heauie for him, therefore he polled it) he weyghed the heare of his head at two hundreth shekels by the Kings weight.

27 Absalon avait trois fils et une fille qui se nommait Thamar; celle-ci était extrêmement belle; elle fut la femme de Roboam, fils de Salomon, et elle lui enfanta Abia.

And Absalom had three sonnes, and one daughter named Tamar, which was a fayre woman to looke vpon.

28 Absalon demeura deux ans à Jérusalem, et il ne vit point la face du roi.

So Absalom dwelt the space of two yeres in Ierusalem, and saw not the Kings face.

29 Ensuite, Absalon envoya chez Joab pour que celui-ci le menât chez le roi, mais il ne voulut point venir; Absalon envoya une seconde fois; Joab refusa encore.

Therefore Absalom sent for Ioab to sende him to the King, but he would not come to him: and when he sent againe, he would not come.

30 Enfin, Absalon dit à ses serviteurs: Voilà que Joab a dans la plaine un champ auprès des miens et où il y a de l'orge; allez, et mettez-y le feu. Les serviteurs d'Absalon incendièrent donc le champ; les serviteurs de Joab déchirèrent leurs vêtements, ils accoururent chez lui, et ils dirent: Les serviteurs d'Absalon viennent de brûler ton champ.

Therefore he sayde vnto his seruants, Beholde, Ioab hath a fielde by my place, and hath barley therein: go, and set it on fire: and Absaloms seruants set the field on fire.

31 Et Joab, se levant, alla trouver Absalon en sa demeure, et il lui dit: Pourquoi tes serviteurs ont-ils porté la flamme dans mon champ.

Then Ioab arose, and came to Absalom vnto his house, and sayd vnto him, Wherefore haue thy seruants burnt my field with fire?

32 Absalon dit à Joab. Je t'ai envoyé querir, disant: Viens chez moi, je veux t'envoyer dire au roi: Pourquoi ai-je quitté Gedsur? J'ai trouvé doux de rentrer en ma demeure, mais je ne vois point la face du roi. S'il y a en moi une iniquité, que l'on me mette à mort.

And Absalom answered Ioab, Beholde, I sent for thee, saying, Come thou hither, and I wil send thee to the King for to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? It had bene better for me to haue bene there still: nowe therefore let mee see the Kings face: and if there be any trespasse in me, let him kill me.

33 Joab rentra chez le roi et lui raconta tout; puis, il appela Absalon, et celui-ci entra auprès du roi, et il l'adora, et il tomba la face contre terre devant la face du roi; et le roi baisa Absalon.

Then Ioab came to the King, and told him: and he called for Absalom, who came to the King, and bowed himselfe to the grounde on his face before the King, and the King kissed Absalom.
