1 Après la mort d'Achab, Moab se souleva contre Israël.
Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab:
2 Et Ochozias tomba à travers le treillis de sa chambre haute, en Samarie; il en fut malade; et il fit partir des messagers auxquels il dit: Allez demander à Baal-Mouche, dieu d'Accaron, si je survivrai à cette maladie? Ils partirent, et ils le questionnèrent pour leur roi.
And Ahaziah fell thorow the lattesse windowe in his vpper chamber which was in Samaria: so he was sicke: then he sent messengers, to whome he saide, Goe, and enquire of Baal-zebub the God of Ekron, if I shall recouer of this my disease.
3 Or, un ange du Seigneur appelant Elie le Thesbite, dit: Lève-toi, va à la rencontre des messagers d'Ochozias, roi de Samarie, et lu leur diras: Est-ce qu'il n'y a point de Dieu en Israël, que vous allez interroger Baal-Mouche, dieu d'Accaron? Il n'en sera pas ainsi.
Then the Angel of the Lord said to Eliiah the Tishbite, Arise, and goe vp to meete the messengers of the King of Samaria, and say vnto them, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that ye goe to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?
4 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: La couche sur laquelle tu es monté, tu n'en descendras plus; car assurément tu mourras. Elie partit donc, et il leur dit ces paroles.
Wherefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come downe from the bed on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die the death. So Eliiah departed.
5 Et les messagers retournèrent auprès de leur maître, qui leur dit: Pourquoi êtes-vous revenus?
And the messengers returned vnto him, to whome he said, Why are ye nowe returned?
6 Ils répondirent: Un homme est venu à notre rencontre, il nous a dit: Retournez auprès du roi qui vous a envoyés, et dites-lui: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Est-ce qu'il n'y a point de Dieu en Israël, que tu vas consulter Baal-Mouche, le dieu d'Accaron? Il n'en sera point ainsi. La couche sur laquelle tu es montée, tu n'en descendras plus, car tu mourras.
And they answered him, There came a man and met vs, and saide vnto vs, Goe, and returne vnto the King which sent you, and say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baal-zebub the God of Ekron? Therefore thou shalt not come downe from the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die ye death.
7 Ainsi, après leur retour, ils rapportèrent au roi les paroles d'Elie, et le roi leur dit: Comment est l'homme qui a été à votre rencontre, et qui vous a dit ces paroles?
And he saide vnto them, What maner of man was he which came and met you, and tolde you these wordes?
8 Ils reprirent: C'est un homme velu, qui est vêtu d'une peau de brebis. Et le roi s'écria: C'est Elie le Thesbite.
And they said vnto him, He was an hearie man, and girded with a girdle of lether about his loynes. Then sayde he, It is Eliiah the Tishbite.
9 Puis, il envoya vers lui un chef de cinquante hommes; le chef partit avec sa troupe, et il vit Elie assis sur la cime de la montagne, et il lui dit: Descends, homme de Dieu, le roi te demande.
Therefore the King sent vnto him a captaine ouer fiftie with his fiftie men, who went vp vnto him: for beholde, he sate on the toppe of a mountaine, and he saide vnto him, O man of God, the King hath commanded that thou come downe.
10 Or, Elle répondit: Si je suis un homme de Dieu, le feu du ciel va tomber et dévorer toi et tes cinquante hommes. Aussitôt, le feu du ciel tomba et dévora le chef avec sa troupe.
But Eliiah answered, and saide to the captaine ouer the fiftie, If that I be a man of God, let fire come downe from the heauen, and deuoure thee and thy fiftie. So fire came downe from the heauen and deuoured him and his fiftie.
11 Le roi lui envoya une seconde fois un chef et ses cinquante hommes. Et le chef dit à Elie: Homme de Dieu: Voici ce que dit le roi: Descends au plus vite.
Againe also he sent vnto him another captaine ouer fiftie, with his fiftie. Who spake, and saide vnto him, O man of God, thus the King commandeth, Come downe quickely.
12 Le prophète répondit: Si je suis un homme de Dieu, le feu du ciel va tomber et dévorer toi et tes cinquante hommes. Aussitôt, le feu du ciel tomba, et dévora le chef avec sa troupe.
But Eliiah answered, and saide vnto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come downe from the heauen, and deuoure thee and thy fiftie. So fire came downe from the heauen, and deuoured him and his fiftie.
13 Et le roi envoya encore un chef et ses cinquante hommes; et ce troisième chef partit, se mit à genoux devant Elie, le pria, et lui dit: Homme de Dieu, que ma vie et celle de ces cinquante hommes, tes serviteurs, ne soient pas sans prix à tes yeux.
Yet againe he sent the third captaine ouer fiftie with his fiftie. And the thirde captaine ouer fiftie went vp, and came, and fell on his knees before Eliiah, and besought him, and saide vnto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these thy fiftie seruants be precious in thy sight.
14 Le feu du ciel est tombé et a dévoré déjà deux chefs de cinquante hommes; maintenant donc, que ma vie ne soit pas sans prix à tes yeux.
Beholde, there came fire downe from the heauen and deuoured the two former captaines ouer fiftie with their fifties: therefore let my life nowe be precious in thy sight.
15 Or, l'ange du Seigneur dit au prophète: Descends avec lui, ne crains rien d'eux. Et le prophète se leva, et il se rendit avec eux au-devant du roi.
And the Angel of the Lord said vnto Eliiah, Goe downe with him, be not afraide of his presence. So he arose, and went downe with him vnto the King.
16 Et il lui dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Pourquoi as-tu envoyé des messagers consulter Baal-Mouche, dieu d'Accaron? Ce ne sera point ainsi: la couche sur laquelle tu es monté, tu n'en descendras plus, car tu mourras.
And he saide vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, (was it not because there was no God in Israel to inquire of his worde?) therefore thou shalt not come downe off the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die the death.
17 Il mourut, en effet, selon la parole du Seigneur que le prophète lui avait dite.
So he dyed according to the worde of the Lord which Eliiah had spoken. And Iehoram began to reigne in his steade, in the seconde yeere of Iehoram the sonne of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, because he had no sonne.
18 Quant au reste de l'histoire d'Ochozias, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?
Concerning the rest of the actes of Ahaziah, that he did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
