2 Rois 22

1 Josias avait huit ans quand il monta sur le trône, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem; sa mère se nommait Jedia, fille d'Edia de Basuroth.

Josias was of eiyte yeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnyde oon and thritti yeer in Jerusalem; the name of his modir was Ydida, the douytir of Phadaia of Besechath.

2 Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux du Seigneur; il marcha dans toutes les voies de David, son aïeul; il n'en dévia ni à droite ni à gauche.

And he dide that, that was plesaunt bifor the Lord, and he yede be alle the wayes of Dauid, his fadir; he bowide not, nethir to the riytside, nethir of the leftside.

3 En la troisième année du règne de Josias, le huitième mois, le roi envoya Saphan, fils d'Ezélie, fils de Mésollam, scribe du temple du Seigneur, disant:

Forsothe in the eiytenthe yeer of kyng Josias, the kyng sente Saphan, sone of Asua, the sone of Mesulam, scryueyn, ethir doctour, of the temple of the Lord,

4 Monte auprès d'Helcias le grand prêtre; compte l'argent offert par le peuple dans le temple, et recueilli par les gardiens de la porte.

and seide to him, Go thou to Elchie, the grete preest, that the money, which is borun in to the temple of the Lord, be spendid, which money the porteris of the temple han gaderid of the puple;

5 Qu'ils remettent cet argent aux ouvriers employés dans le temple. Et l'on donna cet argent aux ouvriers du temple, pour qu'ils y fissent des réparations.

and that it be youun to crafti men bi the souereyns of the hows of the Lord; which also departide that money to hem that worchen in the temple of the Lord, to reparele the rooues of the temple of the Lord,

6 On le donna aux charpentiers, aux constructeurs, aux maçons, pour acheter du bois et des pierres de taille, et consolider le temple.

that is, to carpenteris, and to masouns, and to hem that maken brokun thingis, and that trees and stoonus of quarieris be bouyt, to reparele the temple of the Lord;

7 Mais on ne leur demanda pas compte de l'argent qui leur fut confié, parce que les travaux furent exécutés de bonne foi.

8 Or, le grand prêtre Helcias dit à Saphan le scribe: J'ai trouvé dans le temple le livre de la loi. Et il lui donna le livre; puis, Saphan le lut.

9 Ensuite, il entra auprès du roi dans le temple; il lui rapporta ce qui avait été fait, et il dit: Tes serviteurs ont fondu l'argent trouvé dans le temple du Seigneur, et ils l'ont remis aux ouvriers du temple.

Also Saphan, the scryuen, cam to the kyng, and telde to hym tho thingis, whiche Elchie hadde comaundid, and he seide, Thi seruauntis han spendid the monei, which was foundun in the hows of the Lord, and yauen, that it schulde be departid to crafti men of the souereyns of werkis of the temple of the Lord.

10 Et Saphan le scribe ajouta: Le prêtre Helcias m'a donné un livre. Et Saphan le lut devant le roi.

Also Saphan, the scriueyn, telde to the kyng, and seide, Helchie, the preest of God, yaf to me a book; and whanne Saphan hadde red that book bifor the kyng,

11 Quand Josias ouït les paroles du livre de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements,

and the kyng hadde herd the wordis of the book of the lawe of the Lord, he to-rente hise clothis.

12 Et il donna ses ordres à Helcias le prêtre, à Achicam, fils de Saphan, à Achobor, fils de Michée, à Saphan le scribe, à Amie, serviteur du roi, et il leur dit:

And he comaundide to Elchie, the preest, and to Aicham, sone of Saphan, and to Achabor, sone of Mycha, and to Saphan, the scryuen, and to Achia, seruaunt of the kyng,

13 Allez au Seigneur vous enquérir de moi, de tout le peuple, de tout Juda, concernant les paroles de ce livre qu'on a trouvé; car la colère dont le Seigneur s'est enflammé contre nous est grande, parce que nos pères n'ont point écouté les paroles de ce livre pour faire selon ce qui est écrit à notre sujet.

and seide, Go ye, and `counsele ye the Lord on me, and on the puple, and on al Juda, of the wordis of this book, which is foundun; for greet ire of the Lord is kyndlid ayens vs, for oure fadris herden not the wordis of this book, to do al thing which is writun to vs.

14 Et le prêtre Helcias, Achicam, Achobor, Saphan et Asaïe, allèrent chez la prophétesse Olda, mère de Sellem, fils de Thécuan, fils d'Aras, gardien des vêtements. Elle demeurait à Jérusalem dans le quartier de Masena, et ils lui parlèrent.

Therfor Helchie, the preest, and Aicham, and Achabor, and Saphan, and Asia, yeden to Olda, the prophetesse, the wijf of Sellum, sone of Thecue, sone of Aras, kepere of the clothis, which Olda dwellide in Jerusalem, in the secounde dwellyng; and thei spaken to hir.

15 Et elle leur répondit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés près de moi:

And sche answeride to hem, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Seie ye to the man,

16 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que j'apporte des maux à ce lieu et à ceux qui l'habitent, selon les paroles du livre qu'a lu le roi de Juda;

that sente you to me, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal brynge yuelis on this place, and on the dwelleris therof, alle the wordis `of the lawe, whiche the kyng of Juda redde;

17 En punition de ce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et de ce qu'ils ont encensé d'autres dieux, de sorte qu'ils m'ont irrité par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains; car ma colère est enflammée contre ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra pas.

for thei forsoken me, and maden sacrifice to alien goddis, and terriden me to ire in alle the werkis of her hondis; and myn indignacioun schal be kyndlid in this place, and schal not be quenchid.

18 Quant au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés vous enquérir au Seigneur, dites-lui: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues:

Sotheli to the kyng of Juda, that sente you, that ye schulen `counsele the Lord, ye schulen seie thus, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, For thou herdist the wordis of the book,

19 En récompense de ce que ton cœur ne s'est point endurci, de ce que devant moi tu es rentré en toi-même quand tu as ouï ce que j'ai dit contre ce lieu et contre ceux qui l'habitent, pour qu'ils soient effacés et maudits; de ce que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et pleuré en ma présence: eh bien! moi aussi j'ai entendu, dit le Seigneur.

and thin herte was aferd, and thou were maad meke bifor the Lord, whanne the wordis weren herd ayens this place and ayens the dwelleris therof, that is, that thei schulden be maad in to wondryng, and in to cursyng, and thou to-rentist thi clothis, and weptist bifor me, and Y herde, seith the Lord;

20 Il n'en sera pas ainsi: voilà que je te réunis à tes pères; tu descendras en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront aucun des maux que j'apporte en ce lieu.
