2 Chroniques 28

1 Achaz avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu'il monta sur le trône, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem; et il ne fit point ce qui est droit devant le Seigneur, comme David, son aïeul.

Twenty years old, was Ahaz when he began to reign, and, sixteen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —but he did not that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, like David his father;

2 Mais il marcha dans les voies des rois d'Israël, car il fit des sculptures,

but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, —yea, even molten images, made he to the Baalim;

3 Et il sacrifia à leurs idoles dans le val de Benennom, et il fit passer ses enfants à travers la flamme; selon les abominations des peuples que le Seigneur avait exterminés devant les fils d'Israël.

and, he, burned incense, in the valley of the son of Hinnom, -and burnt his sons, in the fire, according to the abominable ways of the nations, whom Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

4 Et il brûla de l'encens sur les hauts lieux, et sur les terrasses des maisons, et sous les arbres touffus.

And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and upon the hills, —and under every green tree.

5 Alors le Seigneur Dieu le livra au roi de Syrie; il le frappa par ses mains, en permettant aux Syriens d'emmener à Damas une multitude de captifs; il le livra aussi au roi d'Israël, et de ses propres mains, il le frappa d'une grande plaie.

Wherefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria, who smote him, and carried away captive from him a large body of captives, and brought them into Damascus, —yea, even into the hand of the king of Israel, was he delivered, who smote him with a great smiting.

6 Phacée, fils de Romélie, roi d'Israël, tua, en un seul jour, cent vingt mille hommes de Juda, forts et vaillants, parce qu'ils avaient abandonné le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.

And Pekah son of Remaliah slew, in Judah, a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all, sons of valour, -because they had forsaken Yahweh, God of their fathers.

7 Et Zéchri, homme vaillant d'Ephraïm, tua Maasias, fils du roi; Esrican, son grand maître du palais, et Elcana, son lieutenant.

And Zichri a hero of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam, chief ruler of the house, —and Elkanah, that was next unto the king.

8 Et les fils d'Israël firent parmi leurs frères trois cent mille captifs: femmes, fils et filles; et ils leur enlevèrent un immense butin, et emportèrent les dépouilles à Samarie.

And the sons of Israel, carried away captive, from among their brethren two hundred thousand, wives, sons and daughters, moreover also, of much spoil, did they plunder them, —and brought the spoil to Samaria.

9 Or, il y avait là un prophète du Seigneur nommé Obed, qui sortit à la rencontre de l'armée pendant qu'elle revenait à Samarie, et il leur dit: Voilà que la colère du Seigneur Dieu de vos pères est sur Juda; il vous les a livrés, et vous les avez massacrés avec fureur, et le bruit en est monté jusqu'au ciel.

But, in that place, was a prophet unto Yahweh, Oded his name, so he went out to meet the host that was coming unto Samaria, and said unto them, Lo! in the wrath of Yahweh, God of your fathers, against Judah, hath he delivered them into your hand, —and ye have slain them in a rage, until, to the heavens, it hath reached.

10 Et maintenant vous pensez garder comme esclaves les fils de Juda et de Jérusalem; mais ne suis-je point parmi vous pour prendre à témoin le Seigneur votre Dieu?

Now, therefore, ye, are thinking to tread down, the children of Judah and Jerusalem, as servants and as handmaids for yourselves. But is it not so—that, ye yourselves, are altogether guilty against Yahweh your God?

11 Écoutez-moi donc, et délivrez les captifs que vous avez enlevés chez vos frères; car la colère du Dieu terrible est sur vous.

Now, therefore, hearken unto me, and restore the captives whom ye have taken captive from among your brethren, —for, the glow of the anger of Yahweh, is over you.

12 Et les chefs des fils d'Ephraïm: Udie, fils de Jean; Barachias, fils de Mosolmoth; Ezéchias, fils de Sellem; et Amasias, fils d'Eldaï, s'élevèrent pareillement contre ceux qui revenaient du combat.

Then rose up certain of the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim—Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai, —against them who were coming in from the army;

13 Et ils leur dirent: Vous n'introduirez point ici, chez nous, ces captifs; car, lorsque vous péchez contre le Seigneur, votre péché retombe sur nous; et vous entendez ajouter à vos péchés et à vos délits par ignorance, quand déjà vos fautes sont nombreuses, et quand une terrible colère du Seigneur est sur Israël?

and said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither, for, with guilt against Yahweh already upon us, ye, are thinking to add unto our sins, and unto our guilt, —for great is the guilt we have, and fierce is the anger over Israel.

14 Et les guerriers mirent en liberté les captifs, et ils leur rendirent les dépouilles, devant les chefs de toute l'Église.

So the armed men left the captives, and tile plunder, before the rulers, and all the convocation.

15 Et les hommes qui viennent d'être nominativement désignés, se levèrent, prirent soin des captifs, les vêtirent d'objets compris dans les dépouilles, les habillèrent, les chaussèrent, leur donnèrent des vivres pour manger, de l'huile pour se parfumer, firent monter les infirmes sur des ânes, les menèrent avec leurs frères jusqu'à Jéricho, ville des palmiers, et retournèrent à Samarie.

Then rose up the men who have been expressed by name—and took the captives, and, all who were naked among them, clothed they out of the spoil, and arrayed them and sandalled them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and conducted them with asses for every one that was exhausted, and brought them to Jericho the city of palm-trees, near unto their brethren, —and then returned to Samaria.

16 En ce temps-là, le roi Achaz envoya chez le roi assyrien demander son secours,

At that time, sent King Ahaz unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

17 Et voici pourquoi: les Sidoniens faisaient des irruptions; ils frappaient Juda, et lui enlevaient des captifs.

For again had, the Edomites, come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives;

18 Les Philistins aussi avaient pris les armes contre les villes de la plaine, au midi de Juda, et s'étaient emparés de Bethsamys, de Galero, de Socho et de ses bourgs, de Thamna et de ses bourgs, de Gamzo et de ses bourgs, et ils s'y étaient établis.

and, the Philistines, had spread themselves out against the cities of the lowland and of the south, pertaining to Judah, and had captured Beth-shemesh and Aijalon and Gederoth, and Soco with its villages, and Timnah with its villages, and Gimzo, with its villages, —and dwelt there.

19 Car le Seigneur avait humilié Juda, à cause du roi Achaz qui s'était détourné du Seigneur.

For Yahweh had brought Judah low, because of Ahaz king of Israel, —for he had given the rein in Judah, and, been grievously unfaithful, with Yahweh.

20 Alors, Thelgath-Phalnasar, roi des Assyriens, intervint, mais contre lui, et il l'opprima.

And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, came against him, —and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

21 Et Achaz prit les richesses du temple du Seigneur, celles du palais du roi, celles des demeures des princes, et il les donna au roi assyrien; or, celui-ci n'était pas venu pour le secourir,

For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of Yahweh, and out of the house of the king, and the rulers, —and gave unto the king of Assyria, but he helped him not.

22 Mais pour l'écraser; cependant, le roi Achaz continua de se détourner du Seigneur, et il dit:

And, in the time of his distress, he yet further acted unfaithfully with Yahweh, —he, King Ahaz!

23 Je chercherai les dieux de Damas qui me frappent. Puis, il ajouta: Ce sont les dieux du roi de Syrie qui lui donnent de la force; je leur sacrifierai donc, et ils me protégeront. Et ils furent une cause de chute pour lui et pour Israël.

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus who had smitten him, and said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria are helping them, unto them, will I sacrifice, that they may help me. But, they, served to seduce him and all Israel.

24 Achaz retira donc les vases du temple du Seigneur, il les brisa, ferma les portes du temple, et se fit des autels dans tous les carrefours de Jérusalem.

And Ahaz gathered together the utensils of the house of God, and brake away the fittings of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of Yahweh, —and made for himself altars at every corner in Jerusalem;

25 Et il établit des hauts lieux dans toutes les villes de Juda pour que l'on y encensât des dieux étrangers; et les fils de Juda excitèrent le courroux du Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.

and, in every several city of Judah, made he high places, for burning incense unto other gods, —and provoked Yahweh, God of his fathers.

26 Le reste de ses faits et gestes, les premiers et les derniers, sont écrits au livre des Rois de Juda et d'Israël.

But, the rest of his story, and all his ways, first and last, there they are, written the book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

27 Et Achaz s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli en la ville de David; mais on ne le transporta pas dans le sépulcre des rois d'Israël, et son fils Ezéchias régna à sa place.

And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem, but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel, —and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
