2 Chroniques 11

1 Roboam rentra donc à Jérusalem; puis, il réunit Juda et Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille jeunes gens allant à la guerre, afin de combattre Israël, et de recouvrer la royauté pour Roboam.

And when Rehobo'am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom again to Rehobo'am.

2 Mais, la parole du Seigneur vint à Samaïas, homme de Dieu; disant:

But the word of the Lord came unto Shema'yahu the man of God, saying,

3 Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, à tout Juda et à Benjamin, dis-leur:

Say unto Rehobo'am the son of Solomon, the king of Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne partez pas, ne combattez point vos frères les fils d'Israël, retournez chacun en votre demeure, car cette chose est de moi. Ils obéirent à la parole du Seigneur, et, selon son ordre, ils renoncèrent à marcher contre Jéroboam.

Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jerobo'am.

5 Et Roboam habita Jérusalem, et il bâtit des places fortes en Judée.

And Rehobo'am dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities as fortresses in Judah.

6 Il bâtit encore Bethléem, Etan, Thécoé,

He built, namely, Beth-lechem, and 'Etam, and Thekoa'.

7 Bethsura, Sochoth, Odollam,

And Beth-zur, and Socho, and 'Adullam,

8 Geth, Marisan, Ziph,

And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 Adoraï, Lachis, Azéca,

And Adorayim and Lachish, and 'Azekah,

10 Saraa, Aïlon et Hébron, qui appartient à Juda et à Benjamin; toutes villes qu'il entoura de remparts.

And Zor'ah, and Ayalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11 Et il les fortifia, et leur donna des chefs auxquels il assigna des vivres, de l'huile et du vin,

And he strengthened the strong-holds, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine;

12 Et il approvisionna chacune d'elles de lances et de boucliers, et il en multiplia les défenses; et il eut à lui Juda et Benjamin.

And in each and every city [he placed] shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong: and thus remained with him Judah and Benjamin.

13 Cependant, les prêtres et les lévites qui étaient en tout Israël, se rassemblaient auprès de lui de tous les points du territoire.

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their territory.

14 Car, ils abandonnèrent leurs villes de résidence, et ils se rendirent en Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam et ses fils leur avaient ôté le service du Seigneur.

For the Levites left their open districts and their possession, and went to Judah and Jerusalem; because Jerobo'am and his sons cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the Lord,

15 Et Jéroboam avait institué pour lui des prêtres des hauts lieux qui sacrifiaient aux idoles, aux choses vaines, aux veaux d'or, qu'avaient faits Jéroboam.

And [because] he ordained for himself priests for the high-places, and for the evil spirits, and for the calves which he had made.

16 Et il avait chassé des tribus d'Israël ceux qui dévouaient leur cœur à chercher le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël; et ils vinrent à Jérusalem pour sacrifier au Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.

And after them [came] out of all the tribes of Israel such as directed their heart to seek the Lord the God of Israel: these came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord, the God of their fathers.

17 Et ils affermirent le royaume de Juda, et Roboam, fils de Salomon, en fut fortifié pendant trois ans, parce qu'il marcha trois ans dans les voies de David et de Salomon.

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and brought power to Rehobo'am, the son of Solomon, during three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon during three years.

18 Roboam prit pour femmes Moolath, fille de Jerimuth, fils de David; et Abigaïl, fille d'Eliab, fils de Jessé.

And Rehobo'am took himself as wife Machalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and] Abichayil the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19 Celle-ci lui enfanta des fils: Jéhu, Samoria et Zaam.

And she bore to him sons: Je'ush, and Shamaryah, and Zaham.

20 Après cela, il épousa Maacha, fille d'Absalon, et elle lui enfanta Abias, Jetthi, Zéza et Salémoth.

And after her did he take Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom; and she bore to him Abiyah, and 'Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 Or, Roboam aima Maacha, fille d'Absalon, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines, car il avait dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines; il eut d'elles vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.

And Rehobo'am loved Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begat twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.

22 Et il fit Adias, fils de Maacha, chef de tous ses frères, car il avait dessein de lui laisser le trône.

And Rehobo'am appointed Abiyah the son of Ma'achah to be the chief, to be ruler among his brethren; because [he desired] to make him king.

23 Et il le fortifia plus que tous ses autres fils dispersés sur tout le territoire de Juda et de Benjamin, dans les villes entourées de remparts où Roboam maintenait abondance de vivres, et où il leur fit épouser beaucoup de femmes.

And he dealt understandingly, and dispersed all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance and he required [for them] a multitude of wives.
