1 Samuel 5
1 Et les Philistins prirent l'arche de Dieu, et ils la portèrent d'Abenézer à Azot.
And the Philistines have taken the ark of God, and bring it in from Eben-Ezer to Ashdod,
2 Et les Philistins prirent l'arche du Seigneur, et ils la portèrent dans le temple de Dagon, et ils la posèrent auprès de Dagon.
and the Philistines take the ark of God and bring it into the house of Dagon, and set it near Dagon.
3 Et les hommes d'Azot s'étant levés de grand matin, entrèrent dans le temple de Dagon, et ils virent Dagon renversé, la face contre terre, devant l'arche de Dieu; ils relevèrent Dagon et le remirent à sa place; puis, la main du Seigneur s'appesantit sur les hommes d'Azot; elle les tourmenta, elle les frappa à l'anus, tant ceux de la ville que ceux de son territoire.
And the Ashdodites rise early on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah; and they take Dagon, and put it back to its place.
4 Lorsqu'ils se levèrent de bonne heure, le jour suivant, ils virent Dagon renversé, la face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur; la tête de Dagon et ses mains avaient été enlevées jusqu'à la façade d'Amapheth, et ses deux poignets gisaient sur le portique. Le torse seul de Dagon était resté.
And they rise early in the morning on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands are cut off at the threshold, only the fishy part hath been left to him;
5 A cause de cela, encore de nos jours, ni les prêtres de Dagon, ni ceux qui entrent dans le temple, ne marchent sur le seuil du temple d'Azot; ils le franchissent d'un saut.
therefore the priests of Dagon, and all those coming into the house of Dagon, tread not on the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, till this day.
6 La main du Seigneur s'appesantit donc sur les hommes d'Azot; le Seigneur fit fourmiller, tant dans leurs maisons qu'au milieu de leurs champs, une multitude de rats; en même temps, la mort répandit un grand trouble dans toute la ville.
And the hand of Jehovah is heavy on the Ashdodites, and He maketh them desolate, and smiteth them with emerods, Ashdod and its borders.
7 Les hommes d'Azot, voyant ce qui se passait, dirent: C'est parce que l'arche du Dieu d'Israël réside parmi nous, que sa main est si dure pour nous- mêmes et pour Dagon, notre dieu.
And the men of Ashdod see that [it is] so, and have said, 'The ark of the God of Israel doth not abide with us, for hard hath been His hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.'
8 Alors, ils firent partir des messagers pour convoquer chez eux les chefs des Philistins; ceux-ci venus, ils dirent: Que ferons-nous de l'arche du Dieu d'Israël? Les Géthéens dirent: Que l'on envoie chez nous l'arche du Dieu. En conséquence, on envoya à Geth l'arche du Dieu d'Israël.
And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines unto them, and say, 'What do we do to the ark of the God of Israel?' and they say, 'To Gath let the ark of the God of Israel be brought round;' and they bring round the ark of the God of Israel;
9 Dès qu'elle y fut arrivée, la main du Seigneur répandit dans cette ville un très grand trouble; elle frappa les hommes depuis le plus grand jusqu'au plus petit, elle les frappa à l'anus, et les Géthéens firent des sièges pour eux.
and it cometh to pass after they have brought it round, that the hand of Jehovah is against the city — a very great destruction; and He smiteth the men of the city, from small even unto great; and break forth on them do emerods.
10 Puis, ils envoyèrent l'arche de Dieu à Ascalon; lorsqu'elle y entra, les habitants crièrent et dirent: Pourquoi nous amenez-vous l'arche du Dieu d'Israël? est-ce pour faire périr notre peuple?
And they send the ark of God to Ekron, and it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the ark of God to Ekron, that the Ekronites cry out, saying, 'They have brought round unto us the ark of the God of Israel, to put us to death — and our people.'
11 Et ils firent partir des messagers pour convoquer les chefs des Philistins; ceux-ci venus, ils dirent: Renvoyez l'arche du Dieu d'Israël; qu'elle réside en son lieu; qu'elle ne nous fasse point périr, nous et notre peuple.
And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines, and say, 'Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and it turneth back to its place, and it doth not put us to death — and our people;' for there hath been a deadly destruction throughout all the city, very heavy hath the hand of God been there,
12 Car, dans toute ville où elle entre, elle apporte un grand trouble. Et ceux qui ne meurent pas sont frappés à l'anus. Or, le cri de toute la ville s'éleva jusqu'au ciel.
and the men who have not died have been smitten with emerods, and the cry of the city goeth up into the heavens.
