1 Samuel 27
1 Et David dit en son cœur: Je tomberai un jour entre les mains de Saül, et je n'ai rien de bon à attendre, si je ne me réfugie dans la terre des Philistins; Saül alors cessera de me chercher sur toutes les montagnes d'Israël; et j'échapperai à ses mains.
David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by Saul's hand; there is nothing better for me than to escape into the land of the Philistines; Saul will give up looking for me any more within all the borders of Israel; in this way I will escape out of his hand.”
2 David partit donc avec les six cents hommes qui l'accompagnaient, et il alla chez Achis, fils d'Ammach, roi de Geth.
David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish son of Maok, the king of Gath.
3 Et David s'établit chez Achis, lui et ses gens, chacun avec sa famille; David avait avec lui ses deux femmes: Achinaam la Jezraélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal du Carmel.
David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his own household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite woman, and Abigail the Carmelite woman, Nabal's wife.
4 Et l'on alla rapporter à Saül que David s'était réfugié à Geth, et il cessa de le chercher.
Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, so he looked for him no longer.
5 Et David dit à Achis: Si ton serviteur a trouvé grâce à tes yeux, que l'on me donne, dans une des villes de ce pays, un lieu où je demeurerai; car pourquoi ton serviteur réside-t-il avec toi dans ta ville royale?
David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may live there. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
6 Ce jour-là même, Achis lui donna Sécelac; à cause de cela, Sécelac a fait partie du royaume de Juda jusqu'à nos jours.
So that day Achish gave him Ziklag; that is why Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this very day.
7 Et le nombre des jours que David passa sur les terres des Philistins fit quatre mois.
The number of days that David lived in the land of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 Or, David et sa troupe sortaient, et ils attaquaient tout Gesiri et l'Amalécite. Et la contrée était habitée, depuis les postes fortifiés de Gelampsur, jusqu'à la terre d'Égypte.
David and his men attacked various places, making raids on the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those nations were the inhabitants of the land, as you go to Shur, as far as the land of Egypt. They had been living there in the land from ancient times.
9 David frappait cette contrée, et il n'y laissait vivants ni homme ni femme; il enlevait les bœufs, les ânes, les chameaux, les vêtements; puis, il s'en retournait et revenait chez Achis.
David attacked the land and saved neither man nor woman alive; he took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing; he would return and come again to Achish.
10 Alors, Achis disait à David: Qui as-tu attaqué aujourd'hui? David répondait: Ceux qui sont au midi de la Judée, au midi de Jesmega, au midi de Cénézi.
Achish would say, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David would answer, “Against the south of Judah,” or “Against the south of the Jerahmeelites,” or “Against the south of the Kenites.”
11 Je n'ai laissé vivants ni homme ni femme pour les amener à Geth; car je ne veux pas, disais-je, qu'ils parlent de nous dans Geth, et qu'ils disent: Voilà ce qu'a fait David. Telles furent ses habitudes tout le temps qu'il demeura sur les terres des Philistins.
David would keep neither man nor woman alive to bring them to Gath, saying, “So that they cannot say about us, 'David did such and such.'” This was what he did all the while he was living in the country of the Philistines.
12 Et David inspira la plus grande confiance à Achis, qui se disait: On l'a indignement traité au milieu de son peuple en Israël, et il sera toujours mon serviteur.
Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly abhor him; he will therefore be my servant forever.”
