1 Samuel 2
1 Mon cœur s'est affermi dans le Seigneur, ma force s'est relevée en mon Dieu, ma bouche s'est dilatée contre mes ennemis; je me suis réjouie, parce que vous m'avez sauvée.
And Hannah, in prayer before the Lord, said, My heart is glad in the Lord, my horn is lifted up in the Lord: my mouth is open wide over my haters; because my joy is in your salvation.
2 Car nul n'est saint comme le Seigneur, nul n'est juste comme mon Dieu, nul n'est saint, hormis vous.
No other is holy as the Lord, for there is no other God but you: there is no Rock like our God.
3 Ne vous glorifiez pas, ne dites point de paroles superbes; que nul mot résonnant ne sorte de votre bouche, parce que le Seigneur est le Dieu des sciences, et que Dieu prépare ses desseins.
Say no more words of pride; let not uncontrolled sayings come out of your mouths: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, by him acts are judged.
4 L'arc des puissants a été énervé, et les faibles se sont revêtus de force.
The bows of the men of war are broken, and the feeble are clothed with strength.
5 Ceux qui regorgeaient de biens ont été humiliés, et les pauvres n'ont pas eu de regards pour la terre, parce que la stérile a enfanté sept fois, et que celle qui avait beaucoup d'enfants a perdu sa fécondité.
Those who were full are offering themselves as servants for bread; those who were in need are at rest; truly, she who had no children has become the mother of seven; and she who had a family is wasted with sorrow.
The Lord is the giver of death and life: sending men down to the underworld and lifting them up. (Sheol h7585)
7 Le Seigneur appauvrit et il enrichit; il abaisse et il élève;
The Lord gives wealth and takes a man's goods from him: crushing men down and again lifting them up;
8 Il tire l'indigent de la poussière et le mendiant de la fange, pour les faire asseoir parmi les puissants du peuple, et leur donner en héritage un trône de gloire;
Lifting the poor out of the dust, and him who is in need out of the lowest place, to give them their place among rulers, and for their heritage the seat of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's and he has made them the base of the world.
9 Il accomplit les vœux des suppliants; il bénit les années du juste, tandis que l'homme, par sa propre force, ne peut rien.
He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the evil-doers will come to their end in the dark night, for by strength no man will overcome.
10 Le Seigneur réduit à la faiblesse son adversaire; Le Seigneur est remonté aux cieux; il a fait retentir son tonnerre, il jugera jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. Il donne à nos rois leur puissance, et il élèvera la force de son Christ.
Those who make war against the Lord will be broken; against them he will send his thunder from heaven: the Lord will be judge of the ends of the earth, he will give strength to his king, lifting up the horn of him on whom the holy oil has been put.
11 Après cela, elle laissa l'enfant devant le Seigneur, et elle retourna en Armathaïm. Cependant, l'enfant était employé au service du Seigneur, devant le prêtre Héli.
Then Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child became the servant of the Lord under the direction of Eli the priest.
12 Et les fils d'Héli le prêtre étaient des enfants de pestilence, ne connaissant pas le Seigneur.
Now the sons of Eli were evil and good-for-nothing men, having no knowledge of the Lord.
13 Or, tel était le droit du prêtre: quand quelqu'un du peuple venait sacrifier, le serviteur du prêtre arrivait aussitôt que les chairs étaient cuites, tenant à la main une fourchette.
And the priests' way with the people was this: when any man made an offering, the priest's servant came while the flesh was being cooked, having in his hand a meat-hook with three teeth;
14 Il la plongeait dans la grande marmite, de terre ou d'airain, et tout ce que saisissait la fourchette était pour le prêtre. Voilà ce qui se faisait à l'égard de tous ceux d'Israël qui venaient en Silo sacrifier au Seigneur.
This he put into the pot, and everything which came up on the hook the priest took for himself. This they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
15 Et avant que l'on brûlât la graisse, en odeur de suavité pour le Seigneur, le serviteur du prêtre accourait, et disait à l'homme qui offrait le sacrifice Donne-nous de la chair pour que le prêtre la fasse rôtir, et nous ne te prendrons pas de chair bouillie dans la marmite.
And more than this, before the fat was burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who was making the offering, Give me some of the flesh to be cooked for the priest; he has no taste for meat cooked in water, but would have you give it uncooked.
16 A quoi l'homme venu pour sacrifier répondait: Laisse-nous d'abord brûler la graisse, comme il convient, et tu prendras pour toi tous les morceaux que ton âme désire. Mais il disait: Non, donne-les-moi tout de suite, ou je les prendrai de force.
And if the man said to him, First let the fat be burned, then take as much as you will; then the servant would say, No, you are to give it to me now, or I will take it by force.
17 Le péché des fils du prêtre était très grand devant le Seigneur, parce qu'ils méprisaient le sacrifice du Seigneur.
And the sin of these young men was very great before the Lord; for they gave no honour to the Lord's offerings.
18 Cependant, Samuel était employé au service du Seigneur, et l'enfant était revêtu d'un éphod de lin.
But Samuel did the work of the Lord's house, while he was a child, dressed in a linen ephod.
19 Sa mère lui fit en outre un petit manteau double, et elle le lui apporta le jour de la fête, lorsqu'elle monta avec son mari pour faire le sacrifice de la saison.
And his mother made him a little robe and took it to him every year when she came with her husband for the year's offering.
20 Et Héli bénit Elcana et sa femme, disant: Que le Seigneur, en te donnant des enfants de cette femme, te récompense du serviteur que tu lui as consacré. Et l'homme retourna à sa maison.
And every year Eli gave Elkanah and his wife a blessing, saying, May the Lord give you offspring by this woman in exchange for the child you have given to the Lord. And they went back to their house.
21 Et le Seigneur visita Anne; elle enfanta encore trois fils et deux filles; et Samuel avait grandi devant le Seigneur.
And the Lord had mercy on Hannah and she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the young Samuel became older before the Lord.
22 Or, Héli était très avancé en âge; il apprit ce que faisaient ses fils aux fils d'Israël.
Now Eli was very old; and he had news from time to time of what his sons were doing to all Israel.
23 Et il leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous les choses que j'ai ouïes de la bouche de tout le peuple du Seigneur?
And he said to them, Why are you doing such things? for from all this people I get accounts of your evil ways.
24 Ne les faites plus, enfants, car la nouvelle que j'ai entendue n'est pas une bonne nouvelle; ne vous conduisez plus ainsi; car ce ne sont pas de bonnes nouvelles quand on me rapporte que vous empêchez le peuple de servir Dieu.
No, my sons, the account which is given me, which the Lord's people are sending about, is not good.
25 Si un homme pèche contre un homme, on adressera pour lui des prières au Seigneur; mais s'il a péché contre le Seigneur, qui priera pour lui? Mais ils n'écoutèrent pas la voix de leur père, parce que le Seigneur voulait les détruire.
If one man does wrong to another, God will be his judge: but if a man's sin is against the Lord, who will take up his cause? But they gave no attention to the voice of their father, for it was the Lord's purpose to send destruction on them.
26 Et le jeune Samuel marchait; il était bon avec le Seigneur et avec les hommes.
And the young Samuel, becoming older, had the approval of the Lord and of men.
27 Alors, un homme de Dieu vint auprès d'Héli, et dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Je me suis révélé à la famille de ton père quand elle était encore en Égypte, esclave dans la maison du Pharaon.
And a man of God came to Eli and said to him, The Lord says, Did I let myself be seen by your father's people when they were in Egypt, servants in Pharaoh's house?
28 J'ai choisi la famille de ton père, parmi les puissants d'Israël, pour me servir, monter à l'autel, brûler de l'encens et porter l'éphod. J'ai donné à la famille de ton père, pour sa nourriture, une part de tout ce que les fils d'Israël offrent en sacrifice.
Did I take him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest and to go up to my altar to make the smoke of the offerings go up and to take up the ephod? Did I give to your father's family all the offerings made by fire by the children of Israel?
29 Pourquoi donc as-tu regardé d'un œil avide mes victimes et mon encens? Pourquoi donc as-tu donné plus de gloire à tes fils qu'à moi, au point qu'ils consomment avant moi les prémices de toutes les victimes d'Israël?
Why then are you looking with envy on my offerings of meat and of meal which were ordered by my word, honouring your sons before me, and making yourselves fat with all the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?
30 A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: J'avais dit: Ta famille, la famille de ton père se tiendra près de moi à toujours. Et maintenant, le Seigneur dit: Non, parce que je glorifierai ceux qui me glorifient, et que celui qui me méprise sera méprisé.
For this reason the Lord God of Israel has said, Truly I did say that your family and your father's people would have their place before me for ever: but now the Lord says, Let it not be so; I will give honour to those by whom I am honoured, and those who have no respect for me will be of small value in my eyes.
31 Voilà que les temps approchent où j'exterminerai ta race, la postérité de ton père.
See, the days are coming when your arm and the arm of your father's people will be cut off;
32 Il n'y aura plus jamais en ma maison un seul vieillard de ta race.
And never again will there be an old man in your family.
33 Et celui des tiens que je n'exterminerai pas en l'éloignant de mon autel, ses yeux s'éteindront, sa vie se consumera; et tout le reste périra par le glaive des hommes.
But one man of your family will not be cut off by my hand, and his eyes will be made dark, and grief will be in his heart: and all the offspring of your family will come to their end by the sword of men.
34 Or, voilà pour toi le signe, et il viendra sur tes deux fils, Ophni et Phinéès: ils mourront tous les deux le même jour.
And this will be the sign to you, which will come on Hophni and Phinehas, your sons; death will overtake them on the same day.
35 Je susciterai alors pour moi un prêtre fidèle, qui pratiquera tout ce qui est en mon cœur et en mon âme; j'édifierai pour lui une maison fidèle, et il passera devant mon Christ, à jamais.
And I will make a true priest for myself, one who will do what is in my heart and in my mind: and I will make for him a family which will not come to an end; and his place will be before my holy one for ever.
36 Celui de ta famille qui survivra, viendra se prosterner devant lui pour une obole, et dira: Admets-moi à l'une de tes distributions sacerdotales, afin que je mange du pain.
Then it will be that the rest of your family, anyone who has not been cut off, will go down on his knees to him for a bit of silver or a bit of bread, and say, Be pleased to put me into one of the priest's places so that I may have a little food.
