1 Samuel 16
1 Enfin le Seigneur dit à Samuel: Jusqu'à quand pleureras-tu sur Saül, puisque je l'ai rejeté, ne voulant plus qu'il règne sur Israël? Remplis d'huile ta corne, et viens; je t'enverrai chez Jessé, en Bethléem, car j'ai choisi un roi parmi ses fils.
And the Lord seide to Samuel, Hou long biweilist thou Saul, sithen Y castide hym awey, that he regne not on Israel; fille thin horn with oile, and come, that Y sende thee to Ysay of Bethleem; for among hise sones Y haue purueide a king to me.
2 Et Samuel dit: Comment irai-je? Saül en sera informé et il me tuera. A quoi le Seigneur répondit: Prends avec toi une génisse; puis, tu diras: Je suis venu la sacrifier au Seigneur.
And Samuel seide, Hou schal Y go? for Saul schal here, and he schal sle me. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt take a calf of the droue in thi hond, and thou schalt seye, Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord.
3 Tu inviteras Jessé au sacrifice, et je t'apprendrai ce que tu auras à faire; alors, tu donneras l'onction à celui que je te dirai.
And thou schalt clepe Ysay to the sacrifice, and Y schal schewe to thee, what thou schalt do; and thou schalt anoynte, whom euere Y schal schewe to thee.
4 Et Samuel fit tout ce que lui avait prescrit le Seigneur; il arriva en Bethléem, et les anciens de la ville s'étonnèrent grandement de sa venue, et ils dirent: Nous apportes-tu la paix, ô voyant?
Therfor Samuel dide, as the Lord spak to hym; and he cam in to Bethleem, and the eldere men of the citee wondriden, and camen to hym, and seiden, Whether thin entryng is pesible?
5 Il répondit: Oui, la paix; je suis venu sacrifier au Seigneur. Purifiez- vous aujourd'hui, et réjouissez-vous avec moi. Et il purifia Jessé et ses fils, et il les invita au sacrifice.
And he seide, It is pesible; Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord; be ye halewid, and come ye with me, that Y make sacrifice. Therfor he halewide Ysai, and hise sones, and clepide hem to the sacrifice.
6 Lorsqu'ils entrèrent, il vit Eliab, et il dit: Est-ce que l'oint du Seigneur est devant lui?
And whanne thei hadden entrid, he siy Eliab, and seide, Whether bifor the Lord is his crist?
7 Et le Seigneur dit à Samuel: Ne fais pas attention à son extérieur ni à sa grande taille; je l'ai rejeté. Car Dieu ne voit pas comme l'homme; l'homme regarde la figure, Dieu regarde le cœur.
And the Lord seide to Samuel, Biholde thou not his cheer, nethir hiynesse of his stature; for Y castide hym awei, and Y demyde not bi `the siyt of man; for a man seeth tho thingis that ben opyn, but the Lord biholdith the herte.
8 Ensuite, Jessé appela Aminadab; il parut devant Samuel, et Samuel dit: Le Seigneur n'a point choisi celui-là.
And Ysai clepide Amynadab, and brouyte hym bifor Samuel; which seide, Nether the Lord hath chose this.
9 Alors, Jessé introduisit Sema, et Samuel dit encore: Le Seigneur ne l'a point non plus choisi.
Forsothe Isay brouyte Samma; of whom Samuel seide, Also the Lord hath not chose this.
10 Et Jessé introduisit ses sept fils devant Samuel; mais Samuel dit: Ce n'est aucun de ceux-là qu'a choisi le Seigneur.
Therfor Isai brouyte hise seuene sones bifor Samuel; and Samuel seide to Ysai, The Lord hath `not chose of these.
11 Et Samuel dit à Jessé: N'as-tu pas d'autres enfants? Et il répondit: Il y en a encore un plus petit; il est à garder le troupeau. Et Samuel dit à Jessé: Envoie-le chercher, car nous ne nous mettrons pas à table qu'il ne soit venu.
And Samuel seide to Isai, Whether thi sones ben now fillid? And Isai answeride, Yit `another is, a litil child, and lisewith scheep. And Samuel seide to Isai, Sende thou, and brynge hym; for we schulen not sitte to mete, bifor that he come hidur.
12 Jessé le fit venir; or, il était roux, avait de beaux yeux, et était d'aspect agréable devant le Seigneur. Le Seigneur dit donc à Samuel: Lève-toi, et sacre David; c'est lui qui est bon.
Therfor Ysai sente, and brouyte hym; sotheli he was rodi, and fair in siyt, and of semely face. And the Lord seide, Rise thou, and anoynte hym; for it is he.
13 Samuel prit la corne d'huile, et il le sacra au milieu de ses frères; et l'Esprit du Seigneur s'élança sur lui à partir de ce jour-là et ne le quitta plus. Après cela, Samuel se leva et retourna en Armathaïm.
Therfor Samuel took the horn of oyle, and anoyntid hym in the myddis of his britheren; and the Spirit of the Lord was dressid in to Dauid fro that day `and afterward. And Samuel roos, and yede in to Ramatha.
14 Et l'Esprit du Seigneur se retira de Saül, et un mauvais esprit, envoyé par le Seigneur, le tourmenta.
And so the Spirit of the Lord yede awei fro Saul, and a wickid spirit of the Lord trauelide Saul.
15 Et les serviteurs de Saül lui dirent: Voilà que le mauvais esprit du Seigneur te tourmente;
And the seruauntis of Saul seiden to hym, Lo! an yuel spirit of the Lord traueilith thee;
16 Permets à tes serviteurs de parler devant toi, et de chercher pour leur maître un homme habile à toucher de la harpe. Quand le mauvais esprit sera sur toi, l'homme touchera de sa harpe, et il te fera du bien, et il te calmera.
oure lord the kyng comaunde, and thi seruauntis that ben bifore thee, schulen seke a man, that kan synge with an harpe, that whanne the yuel spirit of the Lord takith thee, he harpe with his hond, and thou bere esiliere.
17 Saül dit à ses serviteurs: Voyez, trouvez-moi un homme habile à toucher de la harpe, et amenez-le-moi.
And Saul seide to hise seruauntis, Puruey ye to me sum man syngynge wel, and brynge ye hym to me.
18 L'un de ses serviteurs prit la parole, et dit: Je connais le fils de Jessé de Bethléem; il est habile à toucher de la harpe; c'est un homme intelligent et brave; il est plein de sagesse, d'aspect agréable, et le Seigneur est avec lui.
And oon of the children answeride and seide, Lo! Y siy the sone of Ysai of Bethleem, kunnynge to synge, and `strongeste in myyt, and `a man able to batel, and prudent in wordis, and a feir man; and the Lord is with hym.
19 Et Saül dépêcha des messagers auprès de Jessé, disant: Envoie-moi ton fils David, celui qui garde ton troupeau.
Therfor Saul sente messangeris to Ysay, and seide, Sende thou to me Dauid thi sone, `which is in the lesewis.
20 Alors, Jessé prit un gomor de pain, une outre de vin, un chevreau; il les remit entre les mains de David, et il l'envoya auprès de Saül.
Therfor Isai took an asse `ful of looues, and a galoun of wyn, and a `kyde of geet; and sente bi the hond of Dauid his sone to Saul.
21 Et David fut introduit devant Saül; il lui fut présenté; Saül l'aima beaucoup, et il le chargea de porter ses armes.
And Dauid cam to Saul, and stood bifor hym; and Saul louyde hym greetli, and he was maad `his squyer.
22 Et Saül fit dire à Jessé: Que David reste auprès de moi, parce qu'il a trouvé grâce à mes yeux.
And Saul sente to Isay, and seide, Dauid stonde in my siyt, for he foond grace in myn iyen.
23 Or, quand le mauvais esprit était sur Saül, David prenait sa harpe, il en touchait, et il calmait Saül; il lui faisait du bien, et chassait le mauvais esprit.
Therfor whanne euer the wickid spirit of the Lord took Saul, Dauid took the harpe, and smoot with his hond, and Saul was coumfortid, and he hadde liytere; for the wickid spirit yede awey fro hym.
