1 Après que Salomon eut achevé de bâtir le temple du Seigneur et le palais du roi, et tout ce qu'il avait eu dessein de construire,
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to execute:
2 Le Seigneur apparut une seconde fois à Salomon, comme en Gabaon déjà il lui était apparu.
That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gib'on.
3 Et le Seigneur lui dit: J'ai entendu ta prière et les oraisons que tu as faites devant moi; et je t'ai accordé tout ce que tu avais demandé, j'ai sanctifié ce temple que tu as bâti pour que mon nom y résidât à jamais; mes yeux et mon cœur y seront toujours.
And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast offered before me; I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there at all times.
4 Pour toi, si tu marches devant moi, comme a marché David ton père, en droiture et sainteté de cœur, pour agir selon tout ce que je t'ai ordonné; si tu observes mes commandements et mes ordonnances,
And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in rectitude, to do in accordance with all that I have commanded thee, [and] wilt keep my statutes and my ordinances:
5 Je maintiendrai à jamais ton trône sur Israël comme je l'ai promis à David ton père, disant: Jamais il ne manquera d'hommes issus de toi pour régner sur Israël;
Then will I establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever; as I have spoken concerning David thy father, saying, There shall never fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
6 Mais si vous et vos enfants vous détournez de moi, si vous n'observez point les commandements et les ordonnances que Moïse vous a fait connaître; si vous suivez, si vous servez d'autres dieux, si vous les adorez,
But if ye will at all turn away, ye or your children, from following me, and will not keep my commandments [and] my statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down to them:
7 J'enlèverai Israël de la terre où je l'ai établi; le temple que j'ai sanctifié par mon nom, je le rejetterai de devant ma face; Israël sera, parmi tous les peuples, comme une chose effacée, comme un sujet de moquerie.
Then will I cut off Israel from the face of the land which I have given them; and the house, which I have hallowed unto my name, will I cast away from my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a by-word among all the nations;
8 Ce temple si haut sera en un tel état, que le passant, frappé de stupeur, sifflera et dira: Pourquoi donc le Seigneur a-t-il ainsi traité cette terre et ce temple?
And at this house, [which] should be so exalted, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and men will say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
9 Et on lui répondra: C'est pour avoir abandonné le Seigneur leur Dieu, qui avait ramené leurs pères de l'Égypte, et de la maison de servitude; ils se sont attachés à des dieux étrangers, ils les ont adorés, et les ont servis; voilà pourquoi le Seigneur a fait retomber sur eux leurs propres crimes. Or, le roi Salomon avait déjà conduit la fille du Pharaon de la ville de David au palais qu'en ces temps-là il s'était bâti.
And they shall say, For the cause that they forsook the Lord their God, who had brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods, and bowed down to them, and served them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.
10 Pendant les vingt ans qu'il mit à construire les deux édifices, le temple du Seigneur et le palais du roi,
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the king's house,
11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, vint en aide à Salomon en lui donnant des cèdres et des sapins, de l'or et tout ce qu'il voulut; en échange le roi donna à Hiram vingt villes de la province de Galilée.
(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire, ) that king Solomon then gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12 Et Hiram sortit de Tyr, et alla en Galilée pour voir les villes que lui avait données Salomon; mais elles ne lui plurent pas,
And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; but they were not right in his eyes.
13 Et il dit: Que sont ces villes que tu m'as données, frère? Et il les appela Orion, nom qu'elles portent encore de nos jours.
And he said, What kind of cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them, The land of Cabul, until this day.
14 Ensuite, Hiram apporta à Salomon cent vingt talents d'or.
And Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.
15 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And this is the manner of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and the Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Chazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.
16 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
(Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and captured Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it as a marriage-present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.
17 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-choron,
18 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And Ba'alath, and Thadmor in the wilderness, in the land,
19 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And all the treasure-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for the chariots, and the cities for the horsemen, and the [other] desire of Solomon which he desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.)
20 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
All the people that were left of the Emorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel,
21 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel had not been able utterly to destroy, these did Solomon levy as tributary laborers until this day.
22 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
Yet of the children of Israel did Solomon make no one a bond-man; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and the officers of his chariots, and of his horsemen.
23 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
These [also] were the chiefs of the superintendents that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people that wrought on the work.
24 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which he had built for her: then did he build the Millo.
25 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And Solomon did offer three times in every year burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he had built unto the Lord, and he burnt incense upon the one that was before the Lord. So he finished the house.
26 C'est pourquoi, le roi Salomon construisit un vaisseau en Asion-Gaber, qui est limitrophe d'Elath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, en la terre d'Edom.
And king Solomon made a ship in 'Ezyon-geber, which is near Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
27 Et le roi Hiram envoya sur le vaisseau des serviteurs, matelots exercés à naviguer sur mer, qui s'embarquèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon.
And Hiram sent in the ship his servants, seamen, that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
28 Et ils allèrent à Ophir; et ils y prirent cent vingt talents d'or, et ils les apportèrent au roi Salomon.
And they came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
