1 Rois 11

1 Et le roi Salomon aimait les femmes. Il avait sept cents femmes princesses et trois cents concubines. Il avait épousé des femmes étrangères: la fille du Pharaon, puis des Moabites, des Ammonites, des Syriennes, des Iduméennes, des Hettéennes et des Amorrhéennes,

Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites,

2 Des femmes de ces peuples dont le Seigneur avait dit aux fils d'Israël: «Vous n'aurez point avec eux de commerce, ni eux avec vous, de peur qu'ils ne détournent vos cœurs vers leurs idoles.» Salomon s'était attaché à elles, il les aimait.

of the nations concerning which Jehovah said to the sons of Israel, Ye shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods. Solomon clave to these in love.

3 Et, au temps de sa vieillesse, son cœur ne fut point parfait à l'égard du Seigneur son Dieu, comme le cœur de David, son père. Car les femmes étrangères détournèrent son cœur vers leurs dieux.

And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.

4 Et, au temps de sa vieillesse, son cœur ne fut point parfait à l'égard du Seigneur son Dieu, comme le cœur de David, son père. Car les femmes étrangères détournèrent son cœur vers leurs dieux.

For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods. And his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God as was the heart of David his father.

5 Alors, Salomon bâtit un haut lieu à Chamos, idole de Moab; à leur roi, idole des fils d'Ammon,

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

6 Et à Astarté, abomination des Sidoniens.

And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and went not fully after Jehovah as did David his father.

7 A toutes ses femmes étrangères, il accorda de sacrifier à leurs idoles et de les encenser.

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab on the mount that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon.

8 Et Salomon fit le mal devant le Seigneur; il ne suivit point le Seigneur, comme l'avait suivi David, son père.

And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods.

9 Et le Seigneur se courrouça contre Salomon, parce qu'il avait détourné son cœur du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël qui lui était apparu deux fois,

And Jehovah was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned away from Jehovah, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

10 Et lui avait expressément commandé de ne jamais suivre d'autres dieux, d'être attentif à faire tout ce qu'avait prescrit le Seigneur Dieu; en effet, son cœur n'était point parfait à l'égard du Seigneur, comme le cœur de David, son père.

and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep that which Jehovah commanded.

11 Et le Seigneur dit à Salomon: En punition de ce que tu as agi de la sorte et n'as point gardé mes commandements et mes ordonnances que je t'avais donnés, je déchirerai dans tes mains ton royaume, et j'en donnerai une part à ton serviteur.

Therefore Jehovah said to Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

12 Seulement, à cause de David, ton père, je ne ferai point ces choses de ton vivant; je retirerai des mains de ton fils cette part du royaume.

Notwithstanding I will not do it in thy days, for David thy father's sake, but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

13 Car je ne le lui prendrai pas tout entier; je laisserai un sceptre à ton fils, à cause de David, mon serviteur, et à cause de Jérusalem, ville que j'ai choisie.

However I will not rend away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.

14 Et le Seigneur avait suscité des satans contre Salomon: Ader l'Iduméen et Esron, fils d'Eliadaé de Raama, jadis serviteur d'Adadézer, roi de Suba; ils avaient rassemblé des hommes contre lui, et Ader, chef de cette troupe, avait pris Damas; il fut l'ennemi d'Israël tant que vécut Salomon, et il était de la famille des rois de l'Idumée.

And Jehovah raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the king's seed in Edom.

15 Or, ceci était advenu: Dans le temps que David exterminait Edom, et que Joab, général de son armée, était à ensevelir les morts, car ils frappaient tous les mâles dans l'Idumée,

For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had smitten every male in Edom

16 (Joab y passa six mois avec tout Israël, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent détruit tous les mâles de l'Idumée.)

(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months until he had cut off every male in Edom),

17 Ader s'enfuit emmenant avec lui tous les Iduméens, serviteurs de son père; il se réfugia en Égypte, alors petit enfant;

that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little child.

18 Et des hommes de la ville de Madian s'étaient soulevés; quand Ader et les siens entrèrent dans Pharan, prirent avec eux les hommes, et allèrent chez le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte. Ader fut introduit auprès du Pharaon; le roi lui donna une demeure, et lui assigna des vivres.

And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran. And they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him provisions, and gave him land.

19 Et Ader trouva grâce devant le Pharaon, et le roi lui fit épouser la sœur de sa femme Thécémina, la sœur aînée de Thécémina.

And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.

20 Cette sœur de Thécémina enfanta pour Ader un fils nommé Ganebath, que Thécémina éleva avec les fils du Pharaon; Ganebath était donc parmi les fils du Pharaon.

And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house. And Genubath was in Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh.

21 Lorsque Ader apprit en Égypte que David dormait auprès de ses pères, et que Joab, général de son armée, était mort; il dit au Pharaon: Congédie-moi, et je retournerai dans mon pays.

And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart that I may go to my own country.

22 Et le Pharaon répondit à Ader: Que te manque-t-il parmi nous? Pourquoi demandes-tu à retourner en ton pays? Ader reprit: Je désire que tu me congédies. Et il revint en sa contrée.

Then Pharaoh said to him, But what have thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seek to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing, however only let me depart.

23 Voilà d'où venait la méchanceté d'Ader, il contristait Israël et il régnait sur Edom.

And God raised up another adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.

24 Voilà d'où venait la méchanceté d'Ader, il contristait Israël et il régnait sur Edom.

And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a troop when David killed them of Zobah. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus.

25 Voilà d'où venait la méchanceté d'Ader, il contristait Israël et il régnait sur Edom.

And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad did. And he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.

26 Or, Jéroboam, fils de Nabat l'Ephrathéen de Sarira, fils d'une femme veuve, était serviteur de Salomon.

And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.

27 Voici à quelle occasion il leva les mains contre le roi son maître. Le roi Salomon était à bâtir la citadelle, et il entourait de murs l'enceinte de la ville de David.

And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father.

28 Jéroboam était vaillant, et Salomon discerna que le jeune serviteur était un homme d'action, et il le nomma intendant des tributs de la maison de Joseph.

And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor. And Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he gave him charge over all the labor of the house of Joseph.

29 En ce temps-là, Jéroboam sortit de Jérusalem, et il fut rencontré sur la route par Achias, le prophète silonite. Achias se détourna du chemin, et Achias était enveloppé d'un manteau neuf; ils étaient seuls tous les deux dans les champs,

And it came to pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment, and the two were alone in the field.

30 Et Achias ôta son manteau neuf et le déchira en douze parts,

And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.

31 Et il dit à Jéroboam: Prends pour toi dix de ces lambeaux; car voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: Je déchirerai entre les mains de Salomon son royaume, et je te donnerai dix tribus.

And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces, for thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee

32 Et il lui restera deux tribus, à cause de mon serviteur David, et à cause de Jérusalem, ville que j'ai choisie parmi toutes les tribus d'Israël.

(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

33 C'est en punition de ce qu'il m'a abandonné; de ce qu'il a sacrifié à Astarté, abomination des Sidoniens, à Chamos, aux idoles de Moab et à leur roi, abomination des fils d'Ammon, et de ce qu'il n'a point marché en toutes mes voies pour faire devant moi ce qui est droit, comme l'a fait David, son père.

because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon. And they have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances as David his father did.

34 Toutefois, je ne retirerai point de sa main le royaume entier; je le lui laisserai même tout le reste de sa vie, à cause de David, son père, mon élu.

However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes.

35 Mais je prendrai le royaume des mains de son fils, et je te donnerai dix tribus.

But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to thee, even ten tribes.

36 Et je laisserai à son fils deux tribus, afin qu'il y ait toujours devant moi, pour mon serviteur David, un trône en Jérusalem, dans la ville que je me suis choisie pour que mon nom y résidât.

And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there.

37 Pour toi, je te prendrai, et tu règneras comme le désire ton âme; tu seras roi d'Israël.

And I will take thee, and thou shall reign according to all that thy soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.

38 Et, si tu observes tout ce que je t'ordonnerai, si tu marches en mes voies, si tu fais devant moi ce qui est droit, en gardant mes commandements et mes ordonnances, comme a fait David, mon serviteur, je serai avec toi, et je te bâtirai une maison sûre, de même que j'en ai bâti une pour David.

And it shall be, if thou will hearken to all that I command thee, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with thee, and will build thee a sure house as I built for David, and will give Israel to thee.

39 Et Salomon chercha à faire périr Jéroboam; mais il partit, et s'enfuit auprès de Sésac, roi d'Égypte, et il y demeura jusqu'à la mort de Salomon.

And for this I will afflict the seed of David, but not forever.

40 Et Salomon chercha à faire périr Jéroboam; mais il partit, et s'enfuit auprès de Sésac, roi d'Égypte, et il y demeura jusqu'à la mort de Salomon.

Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

41 Le reste de l'histoire de Salomon, tout ce qu'il a fait, toute sa sagesse, ne sont-ils pas écrits au livre de la vie de Salomon?

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

42 Salomon régna quarante ans sur tout Israël.

And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

43 Et il s'endormit avec ses pères, et on l'ensevelit en la ville de David, et Roboam, son fils, régnait à sa place.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
