1 Et la reine de Saba ouït le nom de Salomon et le nom du Seigneur, et elle vint pour éprouver le roi en lui proposant des énigmes.

And the queen of Saba, having; heard of the fame of Solomon in the name of the Lord, came to try him with hard questions.

2 Elle entra dans Jérusalem avec une suite nombreuse, et des chameaux chargés de parfums et d'une immense quantité d'or et de pierres précieuses; elle fut introduite auprès de Salomon, et elle lui dit toutes les choses qu'il y avait en son cœur.

And entering into Jerusalem with a great train, and riches, and camels that carried spices, and an immense quantity of gold, and precious stones, she came to king Solomon, and spoke to him all that she had in her heart.

3 Salomon l'éclaira sur toutes ses questions; il n'y eut pas une de ses questions à laquelle le roi négligeât de répondre.

And Solomon informed her of all the things she proposed to him: there was not any word the king was ignorant of, and which he could not answer her.

4 Et la reine de Saba vit toute la sagesse de Salomon, le palais qu'il avait bâti,

And when the queen of Saba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he had built,

5 Les mets de sa table, les logements de ses serviteurs, la tenue de ses officiers, ses vêtements, ses échansons, et les holocaustes qu'il offrait dans le temple du Seigneur, et elle en fut hors d'elle-même.

And the meat of his table, and the apartments of his servants, and the order of his ministers, and their apparel, and the cupbearers, and the holocausts, which he offered in the house of the Lord: she had no longer any spirit in her,

6 Et elle dit au roi Salomon: C'était la vérité qu'on m'avait dite en mon pays,

And she said to the king: The report is true, which I heard in my own country,

7 Au sujet de ton éloquence et de ta sagesse; j'avais refusé de croire ce qu'on m'en avait rapporté, jusqu'à ce que je fusse venue moi-même et que j'eusse vu de mes yeux; et je reconnais qu'on ne m'avait point appris la moitié de ce qui réellement existe. Tu as beaucoup ajouté aux merveilles dont j'avais ouï parler chez moi.

Concerning thy words, and concerning thy wisdom. And I did not believe them that told me, till I came myself, and saw with my own eyes, and have found that the half hath not been told me: thy wisdom and thy works, exceed the fame which I heard.

8 Heureuses tes femmes, heureux tes serviteurs qui sont toujours auprès de toi, et qui recueillent toute ta sagesse.

Blessed are thy men, and blessed are thy servants, who stand before thee always, and hear thy wisdom.

9 Béni soit le Seigneur ton Dieu qui s'est complu en toi, pour te donner le trône d'Israël, parce que le Seigneur Dieu aime ce peuple, et qu'il l'affermira pour toujours. Le Seigneur t'a fait leur roi pour que les jugements soient selon la justice et selon l'équité.

Blessed be the Lord thy God, whom thou hast pleased, and who hath set thee upon the throne of Israel, because the Lord hath loved Israel for ever, and hath appointed thee king, to do judgment and justice.

10 Elle donna à Salomon cent vingt talents d'or, et une immense quantité d'épices et de pierres précieuses. Il n'était jamais arrivé à Jérusalem autant d'épices que la reine de Saba en donna au roi Salomon.

And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices a very great store, and precious stones: there was brought no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Saba gave to king Solomon.

11 Et le vaisseau d'Hiram qui avait transporté l'or d'Ophir, apporta une énorme quantité de bois rares et de pierres précieuses.

(The navy also of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir great plenty of thyine trees, and precious stones.

12 Et le roi fit avec les bois des balustrades pour le temple et le palais; puis, des lyres et des harpes pour les chanteurs. Il n'était jamais arrivé de tels bois rares en la terre promise, et l'on n'en avait vu nulle part avant ce jour-là.

And the king made of the thyine trees the rails of the house of the Lord, and of the king’s house, and citterns and harps for singers: there were no such thyine trees as these brought, nor seen unto this day.)

13 Et le roi Salomon donna à la reine de Saba tout ce qu'elle voulut, tout ce qu'elle lui demanda, outre ce qu'il lui donna spontanément. Et elle s'en alla, et elle retourna en sa contrée avec tous ses serviteurs.

And king Solomon gave the queen of Saba all that she desired, and asked of him: besides what he offered he himself of his royal bounty. And she returned, and went to her own country with her servants.

14 Et le poids de l'or, qui arriva au roi Salomon en une année, fut de six cent soixante-six talents,

And the weight of the gold that was brought to Solomon every year, was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold:

15 Sans compter les tributs de ceux qui lui étaient soumis, marchands, rois de la rive gauche de l'Euphrate, ou princes de la terre promise.

Besides that which the men brought him that were over the tributes, and the merchants, and they that sold by retail, and all the kings of Arabia, and the governors of the country.

16 Et Salomon fit faire trois cents javelines d'or battu, chacune de trois cents sicles d'or,

And Solomon made two hundred shields of the purest gold: he allowed six hundred sides of gold for the plates of one shield.

17 Et trois cents armures d'or battu, de trois mines d'or chacune; et il les consacra dans le palais de bois du Liban.

And three hundred targets of fine gold: three hundred pounds of gold covered one target: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Libanus.

18 Il fit faire aussi un grand trône d'ivoire, qu'il revêtit de lames d'or très fin.

King Solomon also made a great throne of ivory: and overlaid it with the finest gold.

19 On montait sur le trône par six degrés; il y avait des faces de taureaux derrière le trône, deux bras des deux côtés du siège et deux lions auprès des bras.

It had six steps: and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were two hands on either side holding the seat: and two lions stood, one at each hand.

20 Il y avait douze lions sur les degrés, six à droite, six à gauche; on ne voyait rien de semblable dans aucun royaume.

And twelve little lions stood upon the six steps on the one side and on the other: there was no such work made in any kingdom.

21 Et tous les vases dont se servait Salomon étaient d'or, ses baignoires étaient d'or; tous les meubles du palais de bois du Liban étaient d'or et de pièces rapportées. On n'y voyait point d'argent; car ce métal était compté pour rien du temps de Salomon;

Moreover all the vessels, out of which king Solomon drank, were of gold: and all the furniture of the house of the forest of Libanus was of most pure gold: there was no silver, nor was any account made of it in the days of Solomon:

22 Et cela parce que Salomon avait un vaisseau de Tharsis à la mer, avec la flotte d'Hiram; tous les trois ans un vaisseau venait de Tharsis chargé d'or, d'argent et de pierres rares et travaillées.

For the king’s navy, once in three years, went with the navy of Hiram by sea to Tharsis, and brought from thence gold, and silver, and elephants’ teeth, and apes, and peacocks.

23 Et Salomon fut grand en science et en richesses par-dessus tous les rois de la terre.

And king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches, and wisdom.

24 Tous les rois de la terre demandèrent à le voir, et à entendre la sagesse que Dieu avait mise en son cœur.

And all the earth desired to see Solomon’s face, to hear his wisdom, which God had given in his heart.

25 Et, chaque année, ils lui apportaient tous des présents des vases d'or, des vêtements, de la myrrhe, des épices, des chevaux et des mules.

And every one brought him presents, vessels of silver and of gold, garments and armour, and spices, and horses and mules every year.

26 Salomon avait, pour ses chars, quatre mille cavales, et dix mille chevaux pour ses cavaliers; il les avait mis dans les villes des chars ou auprès de lui à Jérusalem, et il était chef de tous les rois depuis l'Euphrate jusqu'au territoire des Philistins et aux frontières de l'Égypte.

And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen, and he had a thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horseman: and he bestowed them in fenced cities, and with the king in Jerusalem.

27 Et le roi rendit à Jérusalem l'or et l'argent aussi communs que les pierres; il y amena autant de cèdres qu'il y a de mûriers dans les champs.

And he made silver to be as plentiful in Jerusalem as stones: and cedars to be as common as sycamores which grow in the plains.

28 Salomon tirait des chevaux de l'Égypte; il y avait à Thécoé un marché royal, et on les allait prendre à Thécoé à prix d'argent.

And horses were brought for Solomon out of Egypt, and Coa: for the king’s merchants brought them out of Coa, and bought them at a set price.

29 L'attelage d'un char, venant d'Égypte, coûtait cent sicles d'argent et cinquante sicles par cheval. Il en était de même pour tous les rois des Hettéens et de la Syrie; ces achats venaient par mer.

And a chariot of four horses came out of Egypt, for six hundred sides of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. And after this manner did all the kings of the Hethites, and of Syria, sell horses.
