1 Chroniques 17
1 Et quand David eut pris possession de son palais, il dit à Nathan le prophète: Voilà que j'habite une maison de cèdre, tandis que l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur repose sous des courtines de peaux.
And it came to pass as David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord [is] under [curtains] of skins.
2 Et Nathan dit à David: Tout ce qui est en ton cœur, fais-le, car Dieu est avec toi.
And Nathan said to David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God [is] with thee.
3 Mais, cette nuit même, la parole du Seigneur vint à Nathan, et lui dit:
And it came to pass in that night, that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, [saying],
4 Va, et dis à mon serviteur David; Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tu ne me bâtiras pas un temple pour que je l'habite,
Go and say to David my servant, Thus said the Lord, Thou shalt not build me a house for me to dwell in it.
5 Parce que je n'ai point résidé dans un temple depuis que j'ai tiré de l'Égypte les fils d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour, et que je me suis tenu dans un tabernacle et sous un voile.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day that I brought up Israel until this day, but I have been in a tabernacle and a tent,
6 En quelque lieu que j'aie passé avec tout Israël, ai-je jamais dit à celle des tribus que j'avais chargée de prendre soin de tout le peuple: Pourquoi ne m'avez-vous point bâti une maison de cèdre?
in all places through which I have gone with all Israel: did I ever speak to [any] one tribe of Israel whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, [Why is it] that ye have not built me a house of cedar?
7 Dis encore à mon serviteur David: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur tout- puissant: Je t'ai tiré de la bergerie quand tu marchais derrière les troupeaux, pour que tu sois roi de mon peuple Israël.
And now thus shalt thou say to my servant David, Thus saith the Lord Almighty, I took thee from the sheepfold, from following the flocks, to be a ruler over my people Israel:
8 Je t'ai accompagné partout où tu as marché, j'ai exterminé devant toi tous tes ennemis, et je t'ai rendu célèbre autant que les plus renommés des grands de la terre.
and I was with thee in all places whither thou wentest, and I destroyed all thine enemies from before thee, and I made for thee a name according to the name of the great ones that are upon the earth.
9 Et j'adopterai un lieu pour mon peuple Israël; je l'y fixerai et il s'y abritera, chacun aura sa demeure, et il ne sentira plus d'inquiétudes, et le fils de l'iniquité ne l'affligera plus comme il a fait dès le commencement,
And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will plant him, and he shall dwell by himself, and shall no longer be anxious; and the son of iniquity shall no longer afflict him, as at the beginning,
10 Depuis les temps où j'ai donné des juges à mon peuple; j'ai humilié tous tes ennemis, et je t'augmenterai, et le Seigneur te fera une maison.
and from the days when I appointed judges over my people Israel. Also I have humbled all thine enemies, and I will increase thee, and the Lord will build thee a house.
11 Et, quand tes jours seront remplis, quand tu te seras endormi avec tes pères, j'élèverai après toi ta race et celui qui sera issu de ton sang; et je préparerai son règne.
And it shall come to pass when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
12 Celui-là me bâtira un temple, et je dresserai son trône pour toujours.
He shall build me a house, and I will set up his throne for ever.
13 Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils, et je ne lui retirerai point ma miséricorde, comme je l'ai retirée à ceux qui t'ont précédé.
I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son: and my mercy will I not withdraw from him, as I withdrew [it] from them that were before thee.
14 Et je l'établirai en mon temple, et en son royaume pour toujours; et son trône sera toujours debout.
And I will establish him in my house and in his kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be set up for ever.
15 Ainsi, Nathan répéta à David toutes ces paroles, que lui-même avait ouïes en sa vision.
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so spoke Nathan to David.
16 Alors, le roi David s'en alla; et il se plaça devant le Seigneur, et il dit: Qui suis-je, Seigneur mon Dieu, et qu'est ma maison pour que vous m'aimiez à jamais?
And king David came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what [is] my house, that thou hast loved me for ever?
17 Ce que vous en avez fait c'était à vos yeux peu de chose, ô mon Dieu, et vous avez parlé de la maison de votre serviteur pour un avenir lointain, et vous m'avez regardé comme on regarde un ami, et vous m'avez élevé, Seigneur mon Dieu.
And these things were little in thy sight, O God: thou hast also spoken concerning the house of thy servant for a long time to come, and thou hast looked upon me as a man looks upon his fellow, and hast exalted me, O Lord God.
18 Que pourra faire encore David devant vous pour vous glorifier? Vous connaissez maintenant votre serviteur.
What shall David do more toward thee to glorify [thee]? and thou knowest thy servant.
19 Vous avez opéré ces grandes choses au gré de votre cœur.
And thou hast wrought all this greatness according to thine heart.
20 Seigneur, nul ne vous ressemble, nul n'est Dieu que vous, et vous vous êtes révélé par toutes les merveilles que nous avons oui redire.
O Lord, there is none like thee, and there is no God beside thee, according to all things which we have heard with our ears.
21 Et il n'est point sur la terre de peuple qui ressemble à Israël votre peuple. Il n'en est point que Dieu. ait guidé pour le racheter et s'en faire un peuple pour lui-même, pour se faire à lui-même un grand et glorieux nom, et pour expulser les nations devant votre peuple que vous avez délivré de l'Égypte.
Neither is there another nation upon the earth [such] as thy people Israel, whereas God led him in the way, to redeem a people for himself, to make for himself a great and glorious name, to cast out nations from before thy people, whom thou redeemedst out of Egypt.
22 Vous vous êtes donné, en Israël, un peuple qui sera votre peuple à jamais; et vous, Seigneur, vous êtes son Dieu.
And thou hast appointed thy people Israel as a people to thyself for ever; and thou, Lord, didst become a God to them.
23 Maintenant donc, Seigneur, que la promesse que vous avez faite à votre serviteur, concernant sa maison, soit à jamais confirmée; faites comme vous avez dit.
And now, Lord, let the word which thou spokest to thy servant, and concerning his house, be confirmed for ever, and do thou as thou hast spoken.
24 Et que votre nom soit glorifié à jamais, et que l'on y ait foi, et que l'on dise: Seigneur, Seigneur tout-puissant, Dieu d'Israël, la maison de David votre serviteur est érigée devant vous.
And let thy name [be] established and magnified for ever, [men] saying, Lord, Lord, Almighty God of Israel: and [let] the house of thy servant David [be] established before thee.
25 Car, Seigneur Dieu, vous avez révélé vos desseins à votre serviteur, disant: Je te bâtirai une maison; c'est à ce sujet que votre serviteur a pensé à vous prier face à face.
For thou, O Lord my God, hast revealed to the ear of thy servant that thou wilt build him a house; therefore thy servant has found a willingness to pray before thee.
26 Et maintenant, Seigneur, vous seul êtes Dieu, et c'est vous qui avez fait à votre serviteur ces magnifiques promesses.
And now, Lord, thou thyself art God, and thou hast spoken these good things concerning thy servant.
27 Commencez donc et bénissez la maison de votre serviteur, pour qu'elle subsiste toujours devant vous; car, Seigneur, vous l'avez déjà bénie, bénissez-la donc à jamais.
And now thou hast begun to bless the house of thy servant, so that it should continue for ever before thee: for thou, Lord, hast blessed [it], and do thou bless [it] for ever.
