Psaumes 89
1 Maskîl d’Ethân l’Esrahite. Toujours je chanterai les bontés du Seigneur; d’âge en âge, ma bouche proclamera ta fidélité.
The understanding of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing the mercies of the Lord in eternity. I will announce your truth with my mouth, from generation to generation.
2 Car, dis-je, la bonté aura une durée éternelle; dans les cieux tu as rendu immuable ta fidélité.
For you have said: Mercy will be built in the heavens, unto eternity. Your truth will be prepared there.
3 "J’Ai conclu une alliance avec mon élu, fait un serment à mon serviteur David.
I have set up a covenant with my elect. I have sworn to David my servant:
4 Jusque dans l’éternité j’affermirai tes descendants, et maintiendrai ton trône de génération en génération." (Sélah)
I will prepare your offspring, even in eternity. And I will build up your throne, from generation to generation.
5 Et les cieux célèbrent tes merveilles, ô Seigneur, l’assemblée des saints ta fidélité.
The heavens will confess your miracles, Lord, and also your truth, in the Church of the saints.
6 Car qui, au-dessus des, nuages, rivalise avec l’Eternel, égale le Seigneur parmi les fils des dieux?
For who among the clouds is equal to the Lord? Who among the sons of God is like God?
7 Dieu est infiniment révéré dans la réunion des saints, redoutable à tout ce qui l’entoure.
God is glorified by the counsel of the saints. He is great and terrible above all those who are around him.
8 Seigneur, Dieu-Cebaot, qui comme toi, est éternellement puissant? Ta fidélité rayonne autour de toi.
O Lord, God of hosts, who is like you? You are powerful, Lord, and your truth is all around you.
9 Tu domines l’orgueil de la mer; quand ses vagues se soulèvent, tu apaises leur fureur.
You rule over the power of the sea, and you even mitigate the movement of its waves.
10 Tu as écrasé la fière Egypte comme un blessé à mort; par ton bras puissant tu as dispersé tes ennemis.
You have humbled the arrogant one, like one who has been wounded. You have scattered your enemies with the arm of your strength.
11 A toi le ciel! à toi aussi la terre! L’Univers et ce qu’il renferme, c’est toi qui as tout fondé.
Yours are the heavens, and yours is the earth. You founded the whole world in all its fullness.
12 Le nord et le midi, c’est toi qui les as créés; le Thabor et le Hermon acclament ton nom.
You created the north and the sea. Tabor and Hermon will exult in your name.
13 Ton bras est armé de force, puissante est ta main, sublime ta droite.
Your arm acts with power. Let your hand be strengthened, and let your right hand be exalted.
14 La justice et le droit sont la base de ton trône, l’amour et la vérité marchent devant toi.
Justice and judgment are the preparation of your throne. Mercy and truth will precede your face.
15 Heureux le peuple connaissant les chants de victoire, cheminant, Eternel, à la lumière de ta face!
Blessed is the people that knows jubilation. They will walk in the light of your countenance, O Lord,
16 Sans cesse ils sont en joie à cause de ton nom, et s’élèvent par ta justice.
and they will exult in your name all day long, and they will be exalted in your justice.
17 Car la parure de leur force, c’est toi; par ta bienveillance s’élève notre puissance.
For you are the glory of their virtue, and in your goodness, our horn will be exalted.
18 Oui, notre défenseur s’appuie sur l’Eternel, notre roi sur le Saint d’Israël.
For our assumption is of the Lord, and it is of our king, the holy one of Israel.
19 Jadis tu parlas, dans une vision, à ton pieux serviteur, tu disais: "J’Ai donné mon appui à un héros, j’ai grandi un élu sorti du peuple.
Then you spoke in a vision to your holy ones, and you said: I have stationed help with the powerful one, and I have exalted the elect one from my people.
20 J’Ai trouvé David, mon serviteur; avec mon huile sainte, je l’ai consacré,
I have found my servant David. I have anointed him with my holy oil.
21 lui, à qui ma main servira de soutien, et que mon bras armera de force.
For my hand will assist him, and my arm will fortify him.
22 Aucun ennemi ne saura le circonvenir, ni aucun malfaiteur l’humilier.
The enemy will have no advantage over him, nor will the son of iniquity be positioned to harm him.
23 J’Écraserai devant lui ses agresseurs, et ceux qui le haïssent, je les abattrai.
And I will cut down his enemies before his face. And those who hate him, I will turn to flight.
24 Ma fidélité et ma bonté seront avec lui, et par mon nom grandira sa puissance.
And my truth and my mercy will be with him. And his horn will be exalted in my name.
25 J’Établirai sa domination sur la mer, et son empire sur les fleuves.
And I will place his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.
26 Il me dira: "Tu es mon père, mon Dieu et le rocher de mon salut!"
He will invoke me: “You are my father, my God, and the support of my salvation.”
27 En retour, je ferai de lui mon premier-né, supérieur aux rois de la terre.
And I will make him the first-born, preeminent before the kings of the earth.
28 Éternellement je lui conserverai mon amour, et mon alliance avec lui demeurera solide.
I will preserve my mercy for him eternally, and my covenant for him faithfully.
29 Je ferai durer toujours sa postérité, et son trône aussi longtemps que les cieux.
And I will set his offspring from generation to generation, and his throne like the days of heaven.
30 Que si ses enfants abandonnent ma loi et refusent de suivre mes statuts,
But if his sons abandon my law, and if they do not walk in my judgments,
31 s’ils violent mes préceptes et désobéissent à mes commandements,
if they profane my justices, and if they do not keep my commandments:
32 je châtierai leur rébellion avec une verge, leur impiété par des fléaux.
I will visit their iniquities with a rod, and their sins with a beating.
33 Mais je ne lui retirerai pas mon amour, je ne mentirai pas à ma promesse.
But I will not scatter my mercy from him, and I will not do harm to my truth.
34 Je ne trahirai pas mon alliance, et l’énoncé de mes lèvres, je ne le changerai pas.
And I will not profane my covenant, and I will not make void that which proceeds from my lips.
35 Une fois que j’ai juré par ma sainteté que je ne tromperai pas la confiance de David,
I have sworn by my holiness one time: I will not lie to David,
36 sa postérité durera éternellement, et son trône sera stable devant moi à l’égal du soleil;
his offspring will remain for eternity. And his throne will be like the sun in my sight,
37 comme la lune, il sera à jamais inébranlable: dans les cieux vit un témoin fidèle." (Sélah)
and, like the moon, it is perfected in eternity, and it is a faithful witness in heaven.
38 Et pourtant tu l’as délaissé, rejeté, ton élu; tu t’es emporté contre lui.
Yet, truly, you have rejected and despised, you have pushed away, my Christ.
39 Tu as rompu l’alliance de ton serviteur, dégradé, jeté à terre son diadème.
You have overthrown the covenant of your servant. You have profaned his sanctuary on earth.
40 Tu as démoli toutes ses murailles, changé en ruines ses châteaux forts.
You have destroyed all his fences. You have made his territory dreadful.
41 Tous les passants l’ont mis au pillage, il est devenu un objet d’opprobre pour ses voisins.
All who pass by the way have plundered him. He has become a disgrace to his neighbors.
42 Tu as élevé la droite de ses adversaires, rempli de joie tous ses ennemis.
You have exalted the right hand of those who oppress him. You have brought joy to all his enemies.
43 Tu fais reculer le tranchant de son épée, tu ne le soutiens pas dans les combats.
You have diverted the help of his sword, and you have not assisted him in battle.
44 Tu as mis fin à sa splendeur, et son trône, tu l’as fait crouler à terre.
You have torn him away from cleansing, and you have smashed his throne down to the ground.
45 Tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, et tu l’as enveloppé de honte. (Sélah)
You have reduced the days of his time. You have flooded him with confusion.
46 Jusqu’à quand, ô Eternel, te déroberas-tu obstinément, et ta colère brûlera-t-elle comme du feu?
How long, O Lord? Will you turn away unto the end? Will your wrath flare up like a fire?
47 Rappelle-toi combien je suis éphémère, combien est vaine la vie que tu donnes à tous les fils d’Adam.
Remember what my substance is. For could you really have appointed all the sons of men in vain?
48 Est-il un homme qui demeure en vie, sans voir venir la mort? Qui pourra soustraire son âme aux prises du Cheol? (Sélah) (Sheol h7585)
Who is the man that will live, and yet not see death? Who will rescue his own soul from the hand of the underworld? (Sheol h7585)
49 Où sont tes anciens bienfaits, Seigneur, que, dans ta sincérité, tu avais promis à David?
O Lord, where are your mercies of antiquity, just as you swore to David in your truth?
50 Souviens-toi, Seigneur, des outrages dirigés contre tes serviteurs, que j’ai eu à porter dans mon sein, de la part de peuples si nombreux;
Be mindful, O Lord, of the disgrace of your servants (which I have sustained in my sinews) among many nations.
51 outrages dont tes ennemis, Eternel, m’abreuvent, qu’ils déversent sur les pas de ton oint!
With these, your enemies have reproached you, O Lord; with these, they have reproached the commutation of your Christ.
52 Loué soit l’Eternel à jamais! Amen et Amen!
Blessed is the Lord for all eternity. Amen. Amen.
