Psaumes 56
1 Au chef des chantres. Sur Yonat Elem Rehokim, Mikhtam de David, lorsque les Philistins se furent saisis de lui à Gath. Prends-moi en pitié, ô Dieu, car des hommes veulent me dévorer; sans relâche, l’adversaire me harcèle.
“To the chief musician upon Jonath-elem-rechokim, by David, a Michtham, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.” Be gracious unto me, O God; for man longeth to swallow me up; all the time he oppresseth me fighting.
2 Sans relâche, mes ennemis sont haletants après moi, car nombreux sont ceux qui me combattent, ô Dieu suprême;
Those that regard me with envy long to swallow [me] up all the time; for many are they that fight against me, O thou Most High.
3 le jour où j’ai à craindre, c’est à toi que je me confie.
The day [when] I am afraid, I will still trust in thee.
4 Grâce à Dieu, je puis célébrer son arrêt; en Dieu j’ai confiance, je ne crains rien: que pourrait la créature contre moi?
In God will I praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can flesh do unto me?
5 Constamment ils empirent ma condition; toutes leurs pensées ont pour but de me nuire.
All the day they wrest my words: against me are all their thoughts for evil.
6 Ils se concertent, se mettent à l’affût, observent chacun de mes pas; on dirait qu’ils guettent ma vie.
They come together in troops, they hide themselves, they are those that watch my heels, as though they hoped [to take] my soul.
7 Pour cette injustice, rejette-les; avec indignation jette à bas ces peuples.
Because of their wrong-doing let me escape from them: in anger cast down the people, O God.
8 Veuille compter, toi, mes courses vagabondes, recueillir mes larmes dans ton urne, oui les consigner dans ton livre!
My wanderings hast thou well numbered: put thou my tears into thy bottle; behold, they are numbered by thee.
9 Alors, mes ennemis, lâchant pied, reculeront, au jour où je t’invoquerai: je sais bien que Dieu est pour moi.
Then shall my enemies retire backward on the day when I call [on thee]: this I know—that God is for me.
10 Grâce à Dieu, je puis célébrer son arrêt; grâce à l’Eternel, je puis célébrer son arrêt.
In God will I praise the word: in the Lord will I praise the word.
11 En Dieu j’ai confiance, je ne crains rien: que pourrait l’homme contre moi?
In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can man do unto me?
12 A moi, ô Dieu, d’acquitter mes vœux envers toi: je te paierai des sacrifices de reconnaissance.
Upon me, O God, [rest] thy vows: I will pay thanksgiving offerings unto thee.
13 Car tu as préservé mon âme de la mort, et n’est-ce pas? mes pieds de la chute, de sorte que je continue à marcher devant Dieu, dans la lumière qui éclaire les vivants.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death—yea, behold, my feet from slipping, that I may walk before God in the light of the life.
