Psaumes 33
1 Entonnez, justes, des chants en l’honneur de l’Eternel: aux hommes droits il sied de louer Dieu!
[A Psalm] of David. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous; praise becomes the upright.
2 Rendez hommage à l’Eternel avec la harpe, célébrez-le par le luth à dix cordes.
Praise the Lord on the harp; platy to him on a lute of ten strings.
3 Chantez-lui un cantique nouveau, faites résonner avec art vos instruments avec vos acclamations.
Sing to him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
4 Car droite est la parole de l’Eternel, toute son œuvre est marquée de loyauté.
For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are faithful.
5 Il aime la justice et le bon droit; la terre est remplie de la bonté de l’Eternel.
He loves mercy and judgement; the earth is full the mercy of the Lord.
6 Par la parole de l’Eternel les cieux se sont formés, par le souffle de sa bouche, toutes leurs milices.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the host of them by the breath of his [mouth].
7 Il amoncelle comme une digue les eaux de la mer, il renferme dans des réservoirs les flots profonds.
Who gathers the waters of the sea as [in] a bottle; who lays up the deeps in treasuries.
8 Que toute la terre craigne l’Eternel! Que tous les habitants du globe tremblent devant lui!
Let all the earth fear the Lord; and let all that dwell in the world be moved because of him.
9 Car il a parlé, et tout naquit; il a ordonné, et tout fut là.
For he spoke, and they were made; he commanded, and they were created.
10 L’Eternel renverse les projets des peuples, il fait échouer les desseins des nations.
The Lord frustrates the counsels of the nations; he brings to nothing also the reasonings of the peoples, and brings to nothing the counsels of princes.
11 Mais les décrets de l’Eternel subsistent à jamais, les résolutions de son cœur, de siècle en siècle.
But the counsel of the Lord endures for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
12 Heureux le peuple qui reconnaît l’Eternel comme Dieu, la nation qu’il s’est choisie comme son héritage!
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
13 Du haut des cieux, l’Eternel promène ses regards; il voit tous les fils de l’homme.
The Lord looks out of heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.
14 De la résidence qu’il s’est réservée, il dirige son attention sur tous les habitants de la terre.
He looks from his prepared habitation on all the dwellers on the earth;
15 Il a formé leur cœur à tous, et il observe tous leurs actes.
who fashioned their hearts alone; who understands all their works.
16 Ce n’est pas avec une puissante armée que le roi remporte la victoire; ce n’est pas à sa grande force que le héros doit son salut.
A king is not saved by reason of a great host; and a giant shall not be delivered by the greatness of his strength.
17 Le coursier est d’un vain secours pour triompher, et sa grande vigueur n’assure pas le salut.
A horse is vain for safety; neither shall he be delivered by the greatness of his power.
18 Voici, les yeux du Seigneur sont ouverts sur ses adorateurs, sur ceux qui ont foi en sa bonté,
Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him, those that hope in his mercy;
19 afin de sauver leur âme du trépas, et de les conserver en vie pendant la famine.
to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
20 Notre âme met son attente en l’Eternel: il est notre aide et notre bouclier.
Our soul waits on the Lord; for he is our helper and defender.
21 Oui, notre cœur se réjouit en lui, oui, nous avons confiance en son saint nom.
For our heart shall rejoice in him, and we have hoped in his holy name.
22 Que ta bonté, Eternel, s’étende sur nous, comme nous y comptons de ta part!
Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in you.
